On nearly 400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Salamander Resort & Spa is a refreshing retreat amidst Virginia's lush vineyards and famed horse country. Boasting 168 luxurious rooms and suites, a dedicated cooking studio, wine bar, and equestrian center, this hotel is spacious, sophisticated, and singular in its services, amenities, and facilities. The manicured Grand Lawn leads the way to a collection of buildings set across the property like a majestic New England estate, where every room is decadently designed to embrace openness and light. Three impressive ballrooms, two 1,000-square foot suites, and numerous terraces, gardens, and beautifully bucolic areas double as unique function spaces to suit your business or celebratory needs. From classically inspired furnishings to personalized touches, no detail is overlooked with your comfort at hand. Embracing pastoral influences, and the beloved equestrian community, rooms and suites are outfitted in deep earth tones and pristine cream colors to encourage calm and tranquility. Crackling fireplaces set the mood during winter months, while warm weather is welcomed in through French doors that open to stone terraces and balconies with scenic views of the property. Deep pedestal tubs and large, walk-in showers with body jets and televisions await in the bathrooms designed for maximal comfort. Your every expectation is exceeded in accommodations that set a refined, unhurried tone for your stay at an unparalleled resort in an unparalleled location.

We were looking for a truly classy resort on a country property within striking distance of DC, and found it in the Salamander. The hotel is beautifully decorated; the common areas (library, lobby, etc) warm, large and comfortable; the staff very friendly and helpful; and the spa and spa experience excellent. Our suite was large and welcoming; the bed was perfect, and the L-couch in front of the fireplace in the living area made for great March Madness viewing. We enjoyed strolling the ample paths that wind through the outdoor areas, bushwhacking through the woods (see below), the free car service, and the expertise of the concierges with whom we worked. The location is perfect for getting west (check out Upperville, Sky Meadows State Park for well-marked hiking, and the unique village of Paris), south (visited Rectortown, Delaplane, Marshall, and more), and east of course to DC. Easily accessible also from Dulles, I highly recommend the Salamander. Only two downsides: 1) the trails on property were inaccurately marked, and not enough of them were loop trails, and 2) the bathroom could use a few more hooks/towel racks. Pretty minor critiques in the grand scheme of things!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the salamander resort. We were there for a conference and stayed overnight. We had a lovely time. The hotel service, grounds and food is 5 star quality. We will definitely be back later in the spring or summer.

If you could give more than five stars I would!!! The most beautiful resort and well run hotel. They have thought of every last detail. Every single employee was lovely, friendly and seemed to truly want you to have a fabulous stay. Beautiful rooms and so clean. You will want for nothing! Amazing walking trails, fitness centers and the SPA!!! Best massages and facials ever and we have many all around the world. We will be back!

Mother and daughter trip!! Everything was incredible- especially Eliza the front desk manager and everyone at the spa. Super gorgeous and luxurious without feeling like a pretentious resort. Super cozy and home-like feel and super awesome food! Wish Harrimans was open for dinner Monday - Tuesday but otherwise everything was 10/10!!

Sheila Johnson is a VISIONARY. Salamander is all that and more. Came for a girlfriends trip and the experience is top tier. From the breathtaking estate, to the incredible food (your taste buds will thank you), to the exemplary service from the amazing staff, I HIGHLY recommend that you treat yourself. I want to give a special thank you to Jessica, the overnight front desk staff member, who graciously assisted me. Jessica was patient, meticulous and incredibly knowledgeable. I also appreciated how bubbly she was first thing in the morning. As I enjoy my last couple of hours at Salamander, I am already planning my next stay.
