This is definetly a great hotel. The building, an old ex monastery is beautiful, in the best possible and central location, quiet and peaceful. The service is fantastic, the beds are very comfortable and the rooms are beautiful. The only problem I believe is the lack of a proper american bar separated from the lobby. A hotel like this should be a meeting point and deserves a better bar. Would definitely go back

Most people choose the Four Seasons in Milan because it is just that: the Four Seasons! The excellence of this hotel with respect to amazing service, luxurious surroundings and perfect location are certainly in no small measure present. Most important, you will be cared for by people who not only seem to be doing their job, but who do it with such happy enthusiasm that it makes you feel right at home. You will not be disappointed, especially in the service. But we did not choose the Four Seasons because it was in the heart of the fashion district, surrounded by designers of every nationality, carefully crafting their window displays so that they each appear to be works of art; that is wonderful too and if you are into that sort of thing, you will love your location! We chose the hotel because of its history as a Franciscan convent! In the early 1400s, the convent was established in the area by the Franciscan nuns, and dedicated to St. Elizabeth. The Franciscan Order, urging a return to poverty and simplicity, experienced a swelling in the ranks and the convent grew in popularity. A new convent was built with a church for the public as well as a convent church for only the nuns; three cloisters with gardens filled with herbs that allowed the sisters to supply herbal remedies to the community; quiet cells for the nuns on 2 upper floors; and dormitories for the novices and students from noble families. The convent had long colonnades surrounding these inner courtyards for a contemplative spiritual life. It also had beautiful paintings and frescoes. The Franciscan nuns, called "Clarisses" because they had been instructed by the Pope to dedicate themselves to St. Clare, dedicated their new church to Santa Maria del Gesu (St. Mary of Jesus) and the convent was called the Convent of Jesus. The cloistered convent was well supported by the surrounding community, and the nobility sent their daughters to the convent to live there and be educated by the nuns "as their social standing required". In 1782, the convent was suddenly closed as it was taken over by the nobility to become a palazzo! The church became an entrance to elegant drawing rooms of the Marquis of Add. Masonry work hid much of the frescoes and other architectural elements of religious life. This remained hidden until the Four Seasons began work constructing the hotel and uncovered the history of the building. As for the physical convent, it clearly still lives in the interior of the Four Seasons hotel. The colonnades have been restored along with the beauty of the inner courtyard. Portions of the religious frescoes are visible in various public areas. In a location that has retained the worldliness of the upper classes and in the most unlikeliest of places - a luxurious hotel - there is a measure of simplicity in the surroundings and gracious welcome to travelers by the caretakers that goes beyond business. I can only pray that the nuns might appreciate this measure of kindness and humanity in an all too unkind world and the reminder that their home was a blessing from God.

Just like every other Four Seasons we have stayed in, this one was spectacular in every way. The rooms, the service, the food and ambiance - everything was over the top excellent. The location is superb as well. We had a luxurious one bedroom suite and it was enormous and very beautiful. I doubt you can find a better hotel in Milan. Of course it is expensive, but they give you your money's worth.

We stayed at the Four Seasons during Fashion Week and even with the overwhelming crowds, found this to be a wonderful hotel with excellent service. The location is within short walking distance of all the major sites and world class shopping is only a block from the front door. I cannot say enough about the personal service we received from all members of the staff from doorman to bartenders.
