The Not So Grand Visconti Palace

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

There was no bell staff at he entrance when I arrived and I had to carry five bags in myself, without a cart in the rain. No one at the front desk offered help. I asked for a porcelain cup for tea in my room—the single-use paper cups are terrible for tea and for the planet—and I was told I’d be charged 8 euros to have it delivered—an empty cup. I asked for an iron and was told I could only have it for 30 minutes, then a broken board was delivered. I called twice to get it replaced, no one came, I ironed my dress on the bed. The housekeeper made the bed and changed the towels, but cleaned nothing else—not the trash, not the dishes, nothing. The blue light switch next to the bed woke me up at night until I covered it with a towel. The plug next to the bed was broken—I had to jury rig a system with a paper cup and towel to get it to work. (See picture.) When I checked out I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to take my bags for storage—again, the front desk was no help whatsoever. And one of the two lifts was broken the entire stay. This is a 1-star hotel dressed up as a 4-star. No service, cheap short cuts, zero hospitality. Nothing grand or palace-like about it.

Good location. Pretty poor experience.

Location is good. Hotel appears pleasant from the outside. Had an injury caused by a ridiculously hot sauna wall which was simply too hot to touch, even with a wet back. When reported to reception, they told me to just send and email and seemed to be bery happy to to do nothing about the matter.

Second Stay, Same Disappointing Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This is our second stay at this hotel, and unfortunately it confirms that the first disastrous experience was not a one-off. Back in December we stayed for nine days, and every single day there was a new mistake, problem, or confusion created by the staff (mistakes with laundry, delays in laundry, room not cleaned all day, forgotten cleaning items in the room, credit card debited without consent, etc etc). At one point we were even treated in a very disrespectful manner by a young member of the reception team. When we were finally able to find a manager to raise our concerns, he apologized and offered a credit to the company account, which is irrelevant to us. Unfortunately, due to the same corporate booking arrangement, we have ended up here again. Nothing has changed. Day 2 and I am already wondering how this place even functions. The hotel appears to be run by a group of unsupervised and inexperienced employees who seem unable to handle even simple requests. Instead of resolving issues efficiently, either you wait hours for an item as simple as a towel or their standard response is to ask guests to come down to reception for everything. If I’m calling the front desk, it’s probably because I cannot leave the room — in my case, I was in the middle of a meeting. Ironically, the hotel doesn’t even offer a business lounge or any proper workspace for guests, which makes this even more frustrating. Overall, the level of organization and professionalism is far below what one would expect. Two stays, months apart, and the exact same problems. Clearly, nothing has been addressed.

Will not return

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Stayed in a 1st floor room that had no wifi service throughout my stay. Staff said they could look into it, but nothing came of it. Being on business travel, my schedule was a bit uncertain, and I advised the hotel 4 days before arriving that I might actually arrive the following morning. I sent the same message again the day before arriving. Upon checkout, I was charged a 10 euro no-show fee for the night that I missed. I was charged the full rate for that evening, which I expected, but the no-show fee seemed unkind, given that I'd given advance notice. I asked if they would rescind the fee, but was refused in the following way - "As per policy the first night was already on penalty, we should have cancelled the reservation on January 21st at noon but as per your request we kept the reservation active for you. Therefore no refund is due from our side." In short, poor wifi, and a message that they thought themselves nice for not having entirely cancelled my reservation. I won't be back.
