Melia Milano in Milan, Italy

If your sweet tooth aches when you check into Meliá Milano, there might still be sugar in the building’s bones: This used to be the site of Alemagna cake factory, famous for inventing the traditional Christmas cake panettone. The factory was leveled in World War II, and an elegant hotel took its place in 2001. Rooms are outfitted in rich, neutral colors with heavy brocaded drapes and gilded gold embellishments. For a modern change of pace, book the Diabolik Comic Experience Room, a noire-style tribute to the Italian comic hero.

Take a morning walk around the quiet university neighborhood of Fieria. Hop the train to downtown Milan and visit the Duomo. Peruse Prada, Gucci and Massimo Dutti’s luscious leather goods under the glass-domed roof of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Sample one of the city’s trademark dishes – risotto alla Milanese glows yellow with saffron.

This hotel was very good for quality of the room and the service, it was hard to find fault with anything and being on the "level" there were added bonus's in the private lounge such as snacks and drinks available as well as breakfast being served there. The staff were all very accommodating, the bedroom was spacious and clean with many amenities. The one drawback was the location as there was not much to see or do nearby but on the upside is it was quiet at night and the nearest Metro station is two minutes away and the trip to central Milan is 10 minutes at most in a clean, cheap and efficient system with easily understood ticketing instructions.

Enjoyed a two night stay in a level room with access to the lounge. The lounge is always a highlight, complimentary drinks and snacks all day and a more private space in which to enjoy breakfast. The room was a good size, huge bed, very comfortable and clean. Great hotel, two minutes walk from a metro on the red line connecting you to the heart of the city.

We planned a 2 week trip to Italy and we stayed in Milan, Venice, Florence, and Rome. This hotel was the first hotel we stayed at while in Italy, and it was nice. However, for a 5 star hotel, I was not blown away. I stayed at 2 and 3 star hotels in Venice, Florence, and Rome, and the cost was much better, they included breakfasts, and they had cleaner sheets. I noticed that at Melia Milano, the sheets had many black little hairs on them even though I have long, blonde hair. Where did these black little hairs come from? Were the white sheets not washed properly? I am not sure. It looked odd, like a man shaved his beard over the bed and the sheets were not washed. However, the 2 night stay overall was decent. Air conditioning, a lovely bathroom with multiple appreciated amenities (nice smelling soaps, a toothbrush kit, etc.). The hotel staff was also very friendly, always greeting us with a smile and assisted us with directions. But my expectations for a 5-star hotel were disappointed, as well as the cost. Note: There is a cute little cafe across the street that makes the most amazing cappuccino and chocolate croissants for breakfast.. I forget the name but it is directly across the street. Absolutely amazing, this place deserves 5 stars, A+ food. If you stay at Melia Milano, please visit this place.

Stylish classic hotel with a convenient location and easy access to all the attractions, spacious rooms with comfortable beds, good breakfast with a decent selection of gastronomy and snacks, nice staff and hotel management. Thank you very much, we will come again!

We’d stayed in this hotel for 2nights 3weeks ago but almost every night we got surprised! When we checked in the rooms kids got toys from the reception, when we entered the room other two gifts were waiting for them too!! Small pillow and headphone! The second night they also offered kids yummy and fancy cakes and snacks with a warm welcome card! Highly recommend this hotel!! Extremely friendly and nice to kids! Definitely will come back!
