Stayed here for a supplier conference, two days and one night, who booked the room on my behalf. Great location, seamless check-in, room was clean and fairly modern. Good shower, comfortable bed, great WiFi. Did not formally eat here, there was a group buffet which was very good, but did use the bar which was first rate. Communal areas were pleasant, only gripe was that the coffee machine in my room did not work. Have no idea if the hotel offered good vfm but the stay itself was difficult to fault.

I have just stayed one night at the Rosa Grand Milan hotel . The location is just perfect if you like to be next to Duomo and the fashion shopping area . The hotels is 2 min from the Duomo and in the middle of the fashion district. The hotel is always busy but even I arrived earlier than check in time they gave me a room and up graded. Room in the 5th floor is well decorated and confortable but no views at all . To reach the room was complicated as some hotel areas are being renewed . Breakfast is fine and staff ready to serve.

I booked a standard room. When I checked in the front desk told me to upgrade as they were sure that I would not be happy to stay in such a small room for 4 nights. At the price I was paying I thought it was ridiculous that even the staff would tell me that the room would not be comfortable enough. I upgraded at EUR 50 per night. The first room I was given was on the fifth floor. It was such a maze to get there that I actually felt claustrophobic and afraid. Firstly the way this hotel is built is that no natural lighting comes in. The hotel passageways are a big labyrinth with hardly any light. There are no windows in the passages leading to all the rooms. I requested another room on the first floor and close to the staircase as I felt afraid that should something happen, I would not be able to find my way out. It is dark, cramped and the lifts are small. If the room I got was bigger than my originally booked room, I don’t want to imagine the size of a standard room as this room was very small. The room was clean and so was the bathroom. No view just the back of other high rise buildings. Rooms are so closely packed together with such thin walls that you are disturbed every time someone closes or opens doors to their rooms. Every nook and cranny has been used to squeeze rooms in which makes this hotel feel less than the standard you would expect for the price you are paying. I did not opt to have breakfast at the hotel as it was expensive compared to the many options outside the hotel. The reception is like a busy train station. Always filled with people and bags. It is small and with no natural lighting. The only good thing about this hotel is it’s location right next to the Duomo and great shopping area. The dining options in the restaurants are not great and over priced. Eating outside in the several places around the hotel is much better. I did eat once at Sfizio which was a nice. But a very limited menu. I dined at the hotel bar/lounge once and was served tasteless dry chicken. There are free appetizers and snacks at happy hour but these are stale, dry and look like leftovers from breakfast or lunch.

Most commenters note that this hotel's best virtue is its excellent location. Based on my recent nine-day stay, it was just about only virtue the Rosa Grand can boast of. Reception did not have my reservation. One person (I wish I had caught her name...she was a customer relations rep with red hair) was the only person who I encountered on the staff of the hotel who took responsibility and initiative during my whole stay. She went and checked and came back saying that she would confirm my room. From there, most things went downhill. The hotel absolutely reeks of incense in the lobby and in the rooms in that it comes through the air ducts. When I mentioned this to two different reception people, both had the same response (independent of one another): "I'm used to it by now." Never mind that it was making a customer (and not just me) sick. No one should have to get used to it--not guests and not employees. It is unhealthful and smells terrible. I had two rooms during my stay. Both had foul air that an open window did not help (this is polluted Milan, after all), Each had a round table (not a desk) but no sockets anywhere near them to plug in a laptop computer. The closest socket was next to the bed but a customer paying so much money for a hotel room should not have to work in bed. By the way, the beds were so very hard that they were too uncomfortable to possibly sleep in. [The pillows were quite comfortable.] This hotel claims to be international in character but has very few channels originating in English-speaking countries. No CNN. There are two CNBC channels which basically give business updates. BBC World was supposed to be on channel 29 but was not available. I reported this to the desk clerk, who said two things. First she said, "other people have told me that already." The second thing was, "I can't guarantee anything about whether it will be fixed." A colleague of hers came over and said, "Why don't you watch CNN?" "The hotel does not have it," I replied. "Yes it does!" he said, "No it does not," said the woman who told me she could not guarantee anything. Nine days later, when I checked out, I remarked to the same woman that the BBC never got repaired, she said "I TOLD you I couldn't guarantee anything." I asked her whether she had ever reported that it needed attention, she did not answer. The breakfast in the hotel is pretty good but some of the staff just stand around and talk while others work very hard to make sure everything flows properly and that food is still available. The hotel has a couple of racks with newspapers on them to read in the lounge, but no offer is made to provide newspapers in the rooms to customers. A shoe shine request resulted in a scowl from the person sent to collect them and the shoes were badly shined when returned--brushed yes, shined no. Based on my experience, the laundry and dry cleaning were of good quality and priced fairly. On my third day a package arrived for a work colleague who kept asking for it because he desperately needed it for his presentation. On the sixth day the package was delivered to me even though my name was not on it. My colleague had booked a meeting room but the hotel said they had no record of the booking. Rather than working to get a room available, the reception told my colleague he would have to wait until 9:30 am the next morning to see if he could get a meeting room he needed at 10:30 am. Several people in my group who came for the meeting said their electronically programmed key cards did not work. This happened to me twice in my nine-day stay. I know some people will read this and think I am being picky. Let me put it another way: I spent more than 4000 euros for this work visit and stayed in the hotel because it is where my meetings and conferences were. Over the course of my stay, just about everything that a hotel is supposed to accomplish was not achieved, apart from the fact that there was always hot water and the lifts did not break down. But that is a pretty low standard. That said, I think it is important that the blame not be placed on the staff, but on the owners and management of the hotel. Clearly, they made the decisions that made the hotel what it is. Employees who had contact with the public were doing what they were trained--or not trained--to do. So blame the owners and top managers--those are the people who need education, training and experience.

A beautiful hotel in the best possible location with a friendly staff and the best breakfast ever. The hotel is a two minute walk to the Duomo. The breakfast was a thing of beauty with every possible breakfast food beautifully presented. The staff was helpful and friendly. I cannot think of a single thing about this hotel that I would change. Phenomenal.
