This hotel was very nice with nice rooms, and pool. But there were a lot of bees all around the pool which prevented us to to enjoy it. There is a restaurant but we decided to eat out instead. The room was spacious but bit to hard for us. It was not easy to access and we had to walk quiet a bit and climb up a lot of steps with heavy suitcase so keep this in mind when booking. Overall it is a pretty hotel but we only stayed one night so hard to give more details about it

Citalia Small Group Tour

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed December 11, 2019

Food presented to the Citalia quests appalling, treated as second class tourists in the restaurant . This hotel is great and the venue is lovely BUT be warned if you are on a tour with Citalia or Titan or any one else you are not wanted in the restaurant .

An ideal Tuscany base

We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights . It is in a lovely old building, once a family home, in a perfect central location in Montaione. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was in the old part of the hotel with a view over a small square. The latter was largely irrelevant as it was very hot whilst we were there and so we kept the shutters closed for coolness and the air conditioning worked perfectly. We had a standard room which was kept spotless by the cleaning staff as was the bathroom. We did not eat in the evenings at the hotel but visited the many lovely restaurants in the local area. Several are within walking distance and the others only a 5 to 10 minute drive. The Co op store for water etc was only a few minutes walk away. You have the choice to park your vehicle in the underground car park for a cost or park in a nearby street two minutes walk away. The breakfasts were good with choices of cold and hot food, plenty of fruit and yoghurts etc. I preferred the cappuccino from the bar than the coffee in the breakfast room. The Breakfast staff were excellent, always smiling, polite and friendly. Whilst there we were lucky to have an event going on in Montaione where all the local restauranteurs set up stalls providing various food courses. You paid 20 euros and could sample various courses, wine, desserts etc whilst sitting in the main square listening to a lovely group. Thoroughly enjoyable. This was advertised by a small poster in the hotel, which we would have missed. There is also a Tourist Information office located just a few yards from the front door where the staff were very helpful with local sites, train times etc. My only complaint was the quality of the sun bed mattresses and lack of sufficient parasols. When the hotel was full, particularly at the weekend with the high temperatures, this caused problems..... however this issue seems to have been addressed since we left. The pool is clean, a good size and lovely. We enjoyed our stay here,.

Excellent base for exploring Tuscany

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed July 20, 2019

The hotel is set in the village of Montaione, which is a great place to stay as it is not over run by tourists. There are some fantastic views from the village and from the hotel. We would recommend booking a superior room overlooking the pool area, for fantastic views. These are in the old part of the hotel, they are old and the furniture is dark but they are cool. The new block is over the road with no balconies, it looks newer but is a walk over or under to the main hotel. The pool area is lovely although quite small. It seemed to us that most of the guests were there as part of a touring holiday and did not stay long, there is not too much of a fight for sun loungers but it can get a bit full sometimes. When we arrived we thought the whole hotel a bit sad and uncared for, the gardens were not well maintained, old dilapidated sun loungers etc. but during our stay an older gentleman appeared who seemed to be a manager and suddenly there was a lot of action, clearing up and mending things and the loungers were replaced, plants dead headed etc.. The staff are very, very kind and sweet (bar one grumpy one at reception but hey ho) and they try their hardest but they need leadership - they are rather young and not trained, but so very nice you forgive them. Breakfast was fine, fairly standard stuff but perfectly acceptable - the coffee is filthy, so order an Americano from the waitresses. We ate in the restaurant once and it was absolutely awful, very badly cooked - rock hard pasta and bone in the filling, my husband left his, but they were very concerned and did not charge us. We feel they are missing a trick with the restaurant, they are trying to be too fancy and failing, most guests eat out. If the hotel could only make the outside area nicer (buy some table cloth clips to stop them blowing away) and make the food less ambitious but well cooked it would be great. The menu in the hall did not match the menu in the restaurant. The restaurant is beautiful and very smart and if the food quality was as good it might be fuller, although it is expensive for what it is. The car parking is very handy, 6 euros a day, pay at the end of your stay. But the cameras and the gate are broken, which is part of the lack of management. I want to pick out the maintenance man - he NEVER stopped working. Doing the pool, sweeping, cleaning, etc. in very hot conditions - he was there from dawn to dusk. Incredible work ethic. He deserves a pay rise. We grew very fond of the hotel, it is in a perfect location for touring the area, the staff are kind, it is clean and comfortable but just needs a bit of TLC. Some of the guests, especially one American, were very offhand with the staff and demanding. It is rural Italy, they have power cuts, get over it - if you want 24/7 room service and large bland rooms with air con and CNN then stay in a big bland hotel somewhere. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel if you are somebody who can manage your expectations and who wants to enjoy a proper Italian stay.

Very Italian in decor - great location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed July 19, 2019

The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and we had some funny moments with language - our fault for not speaking Italian ! Hotel room was dark which helped keep the room cool. We had a balcony which was great for a glass of wine and relaxing in the evening after dinner. Room was very clean and comfortable for the 5 nights we were there. Air conditioning was excellent! Underground parking was great and we walked out via the car park entrance rather than the lifts and tunnels as we found this quicker. If you have mobility issues there are steps to negotiate at the front of the hotel with access at the back of the hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would readily stay again. In reading some of the reviews I had a different experience probably due to different expectations.
