Located within the UNESCO-listed Val d’Orcia in the Brunello di Montalcino wine-making region, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a 5,000 acre country estate founded by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo. The Italian resort is a celebration of the natural beauty and rich gastronomic heritage of Tuscany. The 800-year-old estate comprises the ancient castle ruins, a medieval church and the Borgo, a historic village that now forms the heart of the resort.

This property certainly deserves the many accolades it has received! This was our favorite hotel during our nearly 3 week visit to Italy. We booked 4 nights in a Junior Suite which had a beautiful terrace overlooking the bosco to the northwest. One evening, sitting on our terrace, we could hear the cinghiale in the distance. We utilized almost everything offered at CdB during our 4 days there. The restaurants were exemplary. Osteria La Canonica was wonderful for either lunch or dinner. Since the weather was perfect during our stay, each time we dined at OLC, we ate outside. In the evening, we were surrounded by heaters and offered a wrap. The Lobby Bar provided live entertainment, creative cocktails and an intimate space. Sadly, due to our schedule (and the restaurant being closed on 2 of our nights there) we did not get to dine at Campo del Drago. The offerings at the breakfast buffet were abundant. One morning, watching the fog roll into the valley below was incredibly peaceful. By my 3rd morning, upon arriving at breakfast, Lucia walked over to the table I sat at the prior 2 days and pulled out "my" chair with a gracious smile. Lucia, Francesca and Paolo were present at almost every meal we had during our stay. When we discussed where we were headed after CdB, each provided us with suggestions for what to see, where to eat, what to do. The morning we were leaving, we hugged each of them, sad to say good-bye, but looking forward to the next time we would see them. On the morning of our first full day there, my husband visited the spa for a massage and reserved the "wet room". He is very selective about his massages and was very pleased with his here. Later that day, we visited the CdB winery having scheduled the wine and cheese pairing experience. It is a quick golf cart ride from the reception area of the hotel. Fabia was our hostess. Our visit included wines not available in the US, so we were sure to purchase some of them. I highly recommend a visit here. Following our visit to the winery, our golf cart took us to the golf course and pro shop. We will be planning to play the course the next time that we visit! In addition to our visit to the CdB winery, guest relations also scheduled a "Bonzai Wine Tour and Farmer's Lunch" at Podere le Ripi. Our hostess was Martina and Paola was the chef for our lunch. PLR wines are somewhat challenging to find at home so we ordered some to ship back. I highly recommend a visit here. We also visited the Enoteca la Fortezza in the Montalcino town fortress. Sergio was our host. We decided to do a Reserve level tasting and he provided us with 12 different Brunellos tailored to each of our tastes. He absolutely nailed it! We purchased wines to ship home. I highly recommend a visit here. The pool, gym, castle ruins, church and gift shop at CdB are all worth a visit while staying. Following our stay at CdB, we stayed at Lupaia, outside of Montepulciano. For a multitude of reasons, it was a huge disappointment. There was such a genuine warmth at CdB that was non-existent at Lupaia. We absolutely recommend CdB over Lupaia when searching for a place to stay in Tuscany!! One thing to note.....I would recommend a mid-size SUV while staying here and touring Montalcino. The last 9.5km to CdB is a gravel/dusty road with some ruts along the way. My husband wanted to have a Ferrari while we were in Tuscany, I suggested against it based on what I had read about the road. He was glad that he didn't. A mid-size SUV is recommended for touring most of Tuscany including seeing the Chapel Vitaleta, Podere le Ripi as well as many of the properties off of the main roads. Castiglion del Bosco is one of our favorite properties of all time. We have just booked a stay over the upcoming Christmas holiday to experience all they have to offer during a different season!

My wife and I had our best resort experience at Castiglion del Bosco . Everything greatly exceeds our expectation, from the staff, the unit, the food, the resort surroundings, you name it. The attention to details of this place is the next level. It’s a steal in terms of the experience one’ll get vs. the price tag.

This was the single best hotel I’ve ever stayed at period. The staff was incredible, the food was top notch, the rooms were phenomenal and the attention to detail was unparalleled. They have a garden for fresh veggies all day, the pizza cooking class was amazing and oh yeah they have a 1,000 year old church on the property.

We had a wonderful stay at Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco - the property and scenery are absolutely beautiful. The team here is fantastic, and customized the perfect itinerary for us: we enjoyed hiking, biking, spending time by the pool, wine tasting, and the special wine dinner. Sadly, Campo del Drago, the Michelin star restaurant on site, was closed both nights that we were there, so we did not get to enjoy it. Overall, we appreciated the understated elegance and luxury of this property, and it was a perfect way to enjoy Tuscany.

I visit Italy with my wife every April and December for vacation. Last year, I came to Rosewood cdb for the first time for 3 nights in Christmas season, and I was touched by the beautiful hotel and all the staff's kindness. So, I stayed in Rosewood again for 4 nights this April vacation, and I am very satisfied. Previously, I spent time in Italy as a combination of st.regis and belmond, but from now on, I will visit Rosewood in April and December every year. It is a fantastic place.
