Reviews for Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello
We love the Chateau Montebello! It's our 3rd visit and this time it was -30...eek! But not to worry - there was so much to do! The kids (5,9) learned all about curling, played games by the fire, did the hotel treasure hunt and played in the outdoor bouncy castle/obstacle course! We also skied. At the pool, my daughter my trying so hard to teach herself to dive in and just not getting it right (think: belly flop after belly flop) and the most lovely kind lifeguard (Chloe) gave her a few patient pointers. Five stars for staff engagement and fun outside!

Great fun at Sewell Ladies bonspiel. As a 1st timer, it would appear after 85 years of hosting Montebello has the details down for accommodations, food & bar choices, party night & overall value with various receptions. Thx 4 the curling experience in the old rinks- we were warned about the cold & how to dress!
We made our first family trip to this famed Canadian resort during the Arctic cold snap just before NY's. It's a perfect place to be, with all the winter sports and activities. We had 2 rooms which were perfectly ok, if a little old fashioned. Cozy and warm, good beds and linens. Nice bathroom products. The hotel is so old that the hallways are quite noisy and you can sometimes hear neighbor's noise. I had to use my iPhone White Noise app, which made everything fine. We loved all our many outdoor activities; the skating, the dog sleds, horse sleigh rides, curling sessions, cross country, all great with outstanding staff. Our one huge complaint is about the food. It is simply - rather terrible. I cannot believe all the people in that vast, ugly dining room were happy with their choices. The menus are very expensive, but worse is the terribly, old-fashioned choices of duck with endless sweet sauces, lamb ruined with sweet sauces and odd mixtures of pates and fruit...the chef has some penchant for sweet with his savory. With all the great food happening in Montreal and Toronto, they need some improved menus pronto. At lunch there is the option of a buffet instead of the menu...the buffet needs help as it always looked unkempt, untended and half the bowls were not refilled with food and looked sad and old. At breakfast the eggs did not taste fresh but powdery. I was very surprised. We ended up eating bananas for breakfast. Also, no strong, modern coffee options for breakfast dining, we used the ok coffee machines in the room. We would eat lunch in town at the pizza place and for dinner could not bear to go in that horrible dining room so would eat where everyone with little kid's goes - to a little bistro where the wait staff was very friendly and we would eat burgers or steak tartare. Odd. The famous lobby and its fires could be enchanting, just not when it was peak time. They needed more chairs upstairs around the puzzle table and things. Also, those bar tenders at the main lobby bar were beyond slow moving....they would act miffed that we wanted drinks. All very strange and not what we expected from one of Canada's grand dames of resorts.

Wonderful brief vacation. Lots of outdoor things to do. Great ambience. This is a special place, unlike any other. Rustic charm with elegance. Rooms were charming, beds luxurious, and the great lobby was so wonderful. I came for the food, which was excellent, but I enjoyed so much more.

What an amazing evening we had at the Chateau Montebello. I ordered the gourmet package for my husbandâs 40th Birthday and we were not disappointed. We upgraded to a corner room which looked out over the river and it was just gorgeous...very cozy and welcoming and very clean. And the bed!!! So comfy!!! Our diner was a three course meal but they offered us a little pre-appetizer and a palate cleanser in between our meals...what a nice touch. And they presented my husband a plate with a happy birthday message written on it. They truly made our stay so memorable. And a special recognition to the valet who incredibly remembered every name of every guest that walked through that door....I was so impressed! If you are looking for a romantic getaway with an extra special touch...I would definitely recommend this place...Loved it â¤ï¸â¤ï¸
