After a less than impressive stay at the Hilton Rose Hall, we changed hotels to this gorgeous Jamaican gem. This hotel has it all. Charm, sophistication, excellent food and standout service. From our front desk help Natasha to our concierge liaison Kayon, to our masseuse(s) Primrose and Cynthia at the UNREAL spa(literally the best spa we’ve ever been to)-every person was incredibly helpful and friendly. A few minute shuttle ride away at the Sugar Mill restaurant our hostess Kerisha greeted us warmly and remembered us by name from our meal several nights before. Our waitress Kenesha was knowledgeable, efficient and gracious. Our busboy Paul was very sweet. Every moment we spent on this property was memorable. At the sea grill Stacia was friendly and helpful! The buffet is unique, delicious and fresh. Also great choices for our kids at the kids buffet! Also—Try the Italian restaurant on property-hostess Latoya and the entire waitstaff will treat you right and the food is delicious!! Especially the lasagne and the chocolate special dessert! Only one small drawback-mosquitoes. Bring your bug spray!

I recently attended a Law Conference with my legal staff and this was my second time at this hotel. We were in Villa 85. The villas come with a butler, a cook and maid. Alwayne, Denise and Carlene staffed Villa 85. On the basis of our their service and interaction with us I would give this hotel 5 stars. Denise says that cooks her meals with love and and joy and I am inclined to believe her. When you book ask for Villa 85.

Our 4 days and 3 nights at Half Moon Bay this week were over the top. Sure it rained on Monday and Tuesday but we loved it. We were reading amazing books on our terrace by the beach with a clear view of the ocean. The bar was just on the other side of the bushes (room 2011) so there was that. The food was amazing. We ate at Sugar Mill, Giardino and Seagrape Terrace. The lunch buffet was one of the best I’ve ever had, well stocked with classic Jamaican dishes, my favorite being Curried Goat. Though Wednesday started with a sudden monsoon, the rest of the day was breezy and clear. We had two chairs with waves breaking literally at the feet of them where we sat, read and savored the gift bottle of Proseco from ‘management’. This is literally the first time we have ever traveled (and this was my 48th country) where we did not venture off of the property. Why? The room. This was not a normal resort room. Give us a hot plate and its move in ready. Loved the gardens, the grounds, the entire lay out. You now have a fan and a testimonial for life.

I attended a Law Conference at this hotel which was probably not the best place to have it, but for the purpose of this review I leave that to one side. Having looked forward to staying in the hotel, it did not bode well when they had me booked for two nights and not the three I had arranged. It then took nearly 20 minutes at the dedicated check-in to attempt to resolve it, which failed. I then went to the bar and waited a further 20 minutes before I was informed that I would have to change rooms after the first two days. The Villa was very nice although not all the staff seemed to be as willing as others to provide the best environment. The six bedroom villa comes with two golf carts to be used by residents. That works if the six are together but fails if they are not. We were not. All too often there was no golf cart to travel the near one mile to get to the restaurants, bars and reception. On the last night I stayed in one of the large beachfront rooms near the centre. Also very nice but sadly no water or robe and an irritating lack of power points. The two restaurants on the grounds provided what might be described as average food at best. Having ordered dinner in Seagrape at around 9:30 on the first night we were surprised to be told that since we wanted desert after 10:00 the kitchen was closed. Following a protest it was apparently now open. On the second night we were unable to get a table at the Il Giardino until 8:30 yet when we got there it was self-evident that there was a large table that had not been used all evening, confirmed by the maitre d'. The wine we wanted was unavailable, three of us ordered lamb but were not told it had run out until well after serving the starter, two of which were wrong and the whole thing took so long that we missed the entertainment that had been planned for that evening. Do not misunderstand, this was not a complete disaster. The grounds are beautiful and many of the staff wonderful people who went out of their way to welcome me. Everything was ok. But do you really want "ok" for what is billed as a top-of-the-line hotel which does not come cheap. I have stayed in many 5* hotels around the world and some in Montego Bay and this place simply does not live up to it's billing.

We just returned from our first trip to Halfmoon. We had 3 families in one villa for one week. The villa was perfect for our group. Most remarkable was the staff at our villa (Venris, Janet and Andrienne) and all the staff on the resort. They made the vacation great. Highly recommend this if traveling with a few families or a larger group.
