We frequently travel to Jamaica. We have visited resorts throughout the island, and know it very well. Like most consumers, we have the option of selecting traditional hotel properties or the countless all-inclusive properties that now shamelessly populate the island and isolate the guests from the Jamaican people. That said, we enjoyed this resort. It is a great facility with two significant flaws. We start with the people. The team is exceptional, as noted by many others. Before we arrived, I spoke by telephone to Tiffany, who patiently explained many things to me. She was so impressive that I asked for her upon arrival and, with her consent, hugged her. Equally notable was Ms. Dodd in the cocktail lounge. She was just nice ant very attentive. She was naturally kind and decent. Finally, I called Debbie about a billing issue after we departed. She kept all promises to me, namely she promised to look into the matter; she did so promptly; and she returned the call with the required detail. The property is outstanding. We stayed in suite 105, and it provided clear views of the Sea from the balcony. It was bright, clean, fresh and spacious. The hotel facilities are nearby; hence, there is not need to be concerned about the time it takes to go from one place to another. The Fitness Center was world class. It is clean. The equipment is better than most hotel properties. Its location gives you a view of the Sea while you sweat. The General Manager was visible ... and he always addressed you by name. Overall, this is a superior facility that is impaired by two items that easily can be repaired. First, every bill includes an eighteen percent (18%) service charge. As residents of the US, we are not accustomed to this charge. The bill also provides room for a tip, and it is quite visible. The service charge was distracting, and it caused us to wonder whether it was necessary or appropriate in a place that offers so many all-inclusive options. Actually, we felt guilty if we did not write a tip for an exceptional server, like Ms. Dodd. This requirement will make me hesitate when faced with an opportunity to return to this fine property. It is, in short, not good and should be abandoned. (Consider instead adding a dollar to the price of each adult beverage.) The other distraction was the collection of photographs in the cocktail lounge area. They dated before Jamaica freed itself from the oppressive control of the UK. The images did not reflect the population. To the extent the local people appeared in these photos, they were entertainers or hotel workers. Because Jamaica freed itself from British control in 1962, there is no need for reminders of this nature. The hotel leadership should revisit the need to maintain these images from Jamaica's colonialist past and send these photographs to an archive. (Some were so offensive that they reminded me -- just me -- of some of the Confederate statues in the US that have been removed recently.) I hope to return again. I will do so happily when I learn about the elimination of the service charge and the removal of those ancient photographs. This is written by someone whose lineage is Jamaican, and who happily visits hotel properties throughout the island. I am hopeful that the leadership will pay attention to this message.

We stayed in Cottage 19, a comfortable, serene space surrounded by the most beautiful landscape. Staff and other guests were delightful. Don’t miss yoga in the morning with Donovan or afternoon tea. The dining is a great blend of signature dishes and local fare. Be sure to take some time to check out all of the old photographs of legends, guests and performers who are a key part of the resort’s history. The glass bottom boat tour is a nice, short outing. We ventured out to Negril, went ziplining and climbed Duns River Falls. Each evening we returned to the most relaxing space you could find. It’s a quiet, calm getaway.

We had a destination wedding for 85+ people with 3 days of festivities orchestrated perfectly by Racquel and everyone at Round Hill. You start with the real "owners" of the resort - the unbelievably friendly, caring and hospitable staff. The true warmth of the people at Round Hill is worth the trip alone. Then add the varying and personalized menus and venues for 5 hosted events we had with the immaculate preparation and execution on the setups and food that had everyone talking all weekend. Top that with choices of accommodations from the beachfront rooms to the private villas ( Villa 17 is breathtaking in so many ways!). Finally, the natural beauty of the resort from the private cove on Montego Bay uphill to all the villas (most with private pools) surrounded by the lush landscaping is second to none anywhere in the world! A true "slice of heaven" perfect for a wedding(!), honeymoon, family getaway, or just an escape from the world. ONE LOVE!

Round Hill is an expierience unto itself. The beautiful grounds, stunning setting and friendly staff set the stage for a great week. We stayed in a cottage on the hillside which was perfectly appointed and wonderful. The entire stay was marked by the understated class and charm of a bygone era. This is not a place to go if you want a wild party, to sit in your room and watch TV or are overly price conscious. This place is expensive and worth it. Class and charm at every turn and I will return.

Where do I start? How about I begin at the ending? As Colin, my usual and trusted driver steered his car past the security gate exiting Round Hill Resorts & Villas, I sat alone, slouched in the backseat. “Radio?” Colin asked. I shook my head no. As the back of my head slowly sank into the seat cushion on my face I wore a mask of sadness. I shared a knowing glance with Colin’s concerned reflection in the rear view mirror. He smiled. “You’ll be back soon.” “Yea mon, mi soon circle back,” I replied, in horribly accented Patwa. “Jah kno’ star.” This past week was my fifth time staying at Round Hill Villa and Resorts and I am running out of adjectives and superlatives to describe my experiences. How many different ways can one say awesome? After thumbing through a Thesaurus, I am down to these four; wondrous, unique, rare and unparalleled. Let’s take unparalleled for example. I’ve been to most of the major resorts around Montego Bay and in my experience they each specialize in a handful of categories. You want to have fun? There’s a resort for that. If you want to be isolated and tucked away in a corner witness protection style? There is a place for that? A couple’s romantic getaway or wedding? There is a place for that? You want a place that you can take your whole family? Well, you get the picture? In my opinion, Round Hill is all of that in one. Round Hill is unique because it consists of only a couple of dozen Villas and Suites you have the privacy and the option to do your own thing at your own speed. Some of the cottages like Cottage 6, which is where I always stay, have a private pool shrouded by lush tropical greenery, kitchen, a large spacious lounge area and a dining table. That’s outside. Inside is super large living room that leads into an air conditioned bedroom with a bath and overhead shower. The Wi Fi was as strong and reliable as it is in NYC where I am from. The views are wondrous nestled amongst magnificent and well-kept grounds. The landscape makes for an excellent backdrop for a wedding or vacation photos. Sunrise on the hill overlooking Montego Bay is breathtaking. You will also hear and see all sorts of wildlife native to the island. When I say wildlife I am talking about harmless wildlife like small scurrying lizards, birds and frogs croaking at night. For me Round Hill is the rare resort that has it all. The food is excellent and comes in a timely manner. I have many friends who are locals therefore I spend a lot of time off property so I haven’t utilized some of the amenities like the spa or the gym but I am willing to bet a paycheck that if everything else is awesome, chances are the spa and gym are awesome as well. While the Villas are Vibrant and the Grounds are Gorgeous it is the people who keep me coming back. Round Hill has the best staff of any place I have been blessed to experience. Hats off to Josef Forstmayr and his excellent team. Now let me end at the beginning. As Colin, my usual and trusted driver steered his car past the security gate entering Round Hill Resorts & Villas I bolted upright in the backseat. I was like a jaguar ready to pounce on prey. I practically jumped out of the vehicle and glided into the lobby. I was immediately greeted by a chorus of “Mr. Harmon, welcome back.” I exchanged hugs and handshakes. Then the legendary Kingsley materialized from wherever the legendary Kingsley materializes from. “Wa Gwan, Kingsley?” I asked, slightly bowing. (See, that’s how you have to greet a man as distinguished and refined as The Legendary Kingsley) He smiled. “Hello Mr. Harmon. Welcome Home.
