Poised directly above the waters of Monterey Bay, Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa combines the romance of a grand coastal hotel with one of the most enviable addresses on the Monterey Peninsula. Step through the doors from historic Cannery Row and the city seems to fall away, replaced by open water, wheeling seabirds and the sound of waves breaking beneath the hotel. Elegantly appointed rooms and suites embrace a refined California-coastal aesthetic, while select oceanfront suites add private balconies, spacious marble baths and fireplaces to those extraordinary bay views. In the morning, draw back the curtains and watch the light move across the water; sea otters and harbor wildlife may be your first entertainment of the day.
The hotel makes it wonderfully easy to surrender to the coast. Vista Blue Spa occupies the penthouse level, where treatments are complemented by a rooftop sundeck, two whirlpool tubs and an outdoor fireplace overlooking Monterey Bay; there are also steam rooms and a fitness center with sweeping water views. For a more leisurely afternoon, settle onto The Terrace and its pair of oversized hot tubs, or borrow one of the hotel’s complimentary bicycles and join the Monterey Coastal Recreation Trail just outside. Come evening, dine almost over the water at Schooners Monterey, known for contemporary coastal fare and sustainable seafood, or make a night of the tasting-menu experience at Coastal Kitchen, where seasonal California cuisine arrives against uninterrupted views of the bay.

We stayed at Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. Our experience was absolutely terrible given the high rate they charge and expensive food. The only amenities at a $800 per night hotel was bottle of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They said they have a EV charge for $20 + tax; however when I was there they required valet parking. Here is the worst, I reviewed and paid the bill and left disappointed. A few days later I logged into my credit card statement to look for something and found out the hotel charged me additional $350. When I called them they said it is because you smoked and had taken pictures of cigarette butts on the balcony and one in the center of the table as an evidence. When I told her that I have never smoked in my life, she wanted to negotiate with me. I gave her an option of refund the entire amount or we will discuss this in the court with medical proof that I am not an smoker. That is when they refunded the money. Subsequently I attempted to discuss the situation with the hotel general manager but he did not return my call. This is nothing but a big scam. Cigarette butts were placed so they can threaten people. I was tempted to file a Defamation of character law suit but do not have the time. I have already told many of my friend who frequently travel to Monterey and Carmel to stay away form this hotel.

Way overpriced. The mattress has a hole bigger than the Grand Canyon. They put a fluffy down topper over it in hopes you won't notice but once you roll down, there is no going back. Absolutely terrible for the ratings and cost. Then your room refrigerator doesn't work, doesn't cool. So if you need to keep your insulin stored, forget this place. They said I can call the front desk and ask for a new fridge or maintenance again. The a/c doesn't cool at all. Had it set at 60 for 2 hours trying to get it cool. Maintenance came, said sorry. Maybe it will catch up tonight and left a note for tomorrow. I can pass more air than this a/c. Thank God there is a ceiling fan. Wouldn't you think maintenance would repair all these things BEFORE you rent the room out? I do not recommend this hotel at all. You can hear your neighbors and there is a continuous whistling noise.

Incredible - one of the best stays I’ve ever had at a hotel. Service was top notch and efficient and the facilities were just incredible. Would defo recommend the gym and spa free to use for anyone older than 12 if accompanied by an adult. Mandatory valet parking which was very nice but did have a cost and not breakfast included but really didn’t matter. I’m not one to leave a review but this was a memorable stay in an incredible location with stunning views and a great accessibility to Monterey town and shops!

Able to check in early, and the first 10 hours, it was a 5 star experience. Huge room, small balcony, literally right on the water. Bed was terrific. Quiet (well, except for the seabirds). Nice bathroom. 55” LG TV. Centrally located, walking distance to Aquarium & shops. Unfortunately, the 1st night, at around midnight, the water failed in the entire hotel. My wife has a physical issue that requires a bathroom on occasion. They told us water would be on by three, 3:30 and 4:00. Finally, it was! Thank you to Oscar, who manned the night phone, and was very responsive. And to the hotel, which gave us one free dinner as a customer service gesture. Staff were uniformly great. Schooners restaurant was fantastic. We had great service, great food. We were gonna go someplace else the second night, and we said, You know what? It was so good last night. Let's do this again. And again, it was superb. So thanks to Oscar and Monica, our two servers, and to the hostess, who gave us blankets to keep us warm. We had a great time both nights. Side Notes: valet parking $50 a day with tax; bring warm clothes - we're from SF and didn't realize that 67 at the beach, with a breeze, is chilly.

The facilities, staff, location and amenities were all amazing. From our reception to check out, we had a great experience throughout. Everyone was helpful, the rooms had a great view (we were overlooking the water) and our kids loved it as well. Good location to walk to Cannery Row and the aquarium and a short drive to downtown Carmel made this ideal for us. It will be the only place we stay when traveling to the area from now on.
