Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa

When I walked into the lobby, I was overwhelmed. It is really beautiful and the views are amazing. But then you get to the room and it is all downhill from there. We got stuck in the "other building" across the street so maybe the rooms in the original part of the hotel are nice and these are where the outdated 1980s Marriott generic hotel rooms live. But they are bad. Really bad. See the attached pictures. Come here for a drink in the lobby and enjoy the view and then go back to another hotel that is better and orobably cheaper. What a disappointment.

I stayed one night for a family event. I want to give a shout-out to Nick, who was our server in the Schooner restaurant. He was so sweet and caring with the three young children in our party, so attentive and friendly without being obtrusive. He is a valuable asset to your business, and I wanted to recognize him

We stayed one night here with friends and so very happy we did. The hotel is right on the water and gorgeous inside, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the hotel’s restaurants are great (a bit pricey, but everything in that area is). We very much enjoyed the live music in the beautiful lobby lounge 6-10pm. Rooms were excellent. Would definitely stay here again!

The Monterey Plaza is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy mother nature's beauty at the nearby aquarium or a gentle stroll along the ocean to see the seals, seal lions and otters on your way to pier. Whale watching is also wonderful. We saw blue whales and Finned whales which are rare to see. The good and The Spa are also great assets to this wonderful facility that we've been enjoy more than 30 years. Mathew, the manager made sure everything was perfect for us.

Location is everything here! Great price for being right on the sea and close to it all - golf, pebble beach, pacific grove, Carmel, beach, Big Sur. I love this hotel. Great hot tub overlooking the water on the fifth floor. Schooners restaurant never misses. Our room had a Cannery Row view, king size bed (basically looking at Chart House restaurant) and while we would have preferred a sea view (we booked too late) we actually didn’t mind as we saved on the nightly rate for dinners, golf, and Carmel by the sea shopping. The lobby of this hotel reminds me of Steinbeck era California. It’s beautiful & you just can’t beat the view. Step out of the lobby back doors to the sound of sea lions, seagulls, and catch sea otters playing! Note that the rooms are a bit dated, but we didn’t mind for the area. This is pretty common for hotels in the mix of downtown Monterey & Carmel. A friend stayed about 20 minutes inland at a newer more updated hotel - but we wanted to feel the Pacific. This is the place for that!
