Before checking in, ask about mattress firmness
The hotel was beautiful, the staff was friendly and helpful, the restaurant food was excellent, the spa experience was exceptional! My rating is for the "mattress" that was too soft and uncomfortable for a 3 night stay. With back and neck issues, to get a relaxing and comfortable 3 night stay was not happening. Woke up sore and in pain. Found out that all rooms were furnished with the same mattresses. Not sure if the price of staying was worth every penny for a luxury hotel with a poor mattress experience and not getting a good night sleep. If you enjoy very soft sinkable, non-support mattresses this is the place for you!

Poor front desk service
Abysmal front desk service. Called 3 times in 25 minutes for help getting my golf clubs and 2 bags from room to lobby. No one showed up and front desk manager Nikki was unhelpful, facetious and rude. Stay elsewhere, especially if you have athletic equipment.

Visit seemed different this time
Spend a few days at the Monterey plaza hotel this past weekend. Had a nice day overall. Seems like some of the staff are not too happy and not friendly. Especially a couple of the bartenders and Bill and parking staff. Also please check the jacuzzi really needs cleaning. My wife and I have been staying at the Monterey plaza hotel for over 20 years.this time didn't feel as welcoming as the past

Stay in bed and listen to the waves
Great location walking distance to everything you would want to see. Great food, drinks and beds are so comfy you just want to stay in it and listen to the waves!

Can't wait to return
We have stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel many times and always left anxious to return. The staff consistently was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was so inviting a big part of our vacation consists of relaxing in. The ocean views are fabulous throughout the facility including while dining. We will be returning soon.
