My husband and I visited the resort as part of a conference group. The rooms were quite spacious and very clean and nice. Bathrooms were very large and had both a shower and separate soaking tub. Hallways seemed a little dark and ceilings were low, but overall fairly clean. The resort features several swimming pools; one for very small children, one, which featured two different slides, for older kids, and a larger, quieter pool for adults as well as a lazy river. Although the pool areas were clean, the pool recliners were dirty, and we had to use the hotel towels to clean them off before we could use them. My husband played golf at the hotel course, and he was very impressed with the condition and the course itself. There is also a miniature golf course for families as well as a game room for children. We plan to return and take our grandchildren because there were so many things they would enjoy. There is a casual restaurant in the conference center, and the breakfast buffet was outstanding. There were two bar/lounge areas that were open, and we especially enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the one on the second floor of the hotel. All of the hotel employees were extremely accommodating and helpful, check-in and check-out were both quite smooth.

We were here for a convention so our rate was greatly reduced. I do not feel that even at a reduced rate the La Torretta was worth the price. I will break down the good, the bad and the ugly below. I apologize in advance for the length of this post but there is a lot going on here. Also I gave it a poor rating instead of terrible as there were some good things here and there. The good – All of the staff with the exception of some of the front desk personnel, were very nice and friendly. The rooms are huge which is great if you are planning on spending more than a day or two here. The valet service they contracted to use is very friendly and professional and the Lakeside Dining was very good as well. The bad – There is quite a bit that is bad starting with the lack of training/knowledge of the staff – is everyone new here? It also appears that there is not enough staff for a hotel this size and especially with the number of guests. The Mokka Café is the only place to get coffee on the run however they are not open in the afternoon and the food was horrific – think frozen sausage biscuit warmed too long in the microwave. Their Restaurant 157 was not good either and the service was beyond slow. We had breakfast here before check-out with 5 people in our party. Each meal was served with about 10-15 minutes between each one. At one point we asked where a meal was and were told that someone had “stolen” it for another table. While comical in their choice of words this is certainly not the level of professional service one would expect for a hotel with this price point. The ugly – In a word – maintenance. There is a real lack of maintenance at this facility and it appears to have been that way for quite some time. The toilet in our room literally “screamed” when we flushed it. I am shocked that the maid has not brought this to the attention of management. We finally figured out that if the person in the next room was running their shower then the pipes were fine but if not the “screaming” started. My husband and I got a good laugh out of this each time. We did not try the tennis courts however others appeared to use them just fine. The mini golf was great, a nice 18 hole course, but it could really use a mower, trimmer and blower plus the building next to it should be condemned! I do not know what this was but it was in such sad shape that it posed a liability to the owners – take a hint and get this roped off immediately. Some of the boards on the walkway were so rotten they had broken and fallen off. If a kid were to climb up there they could get really hurt. One more item to note – I did not try the spa. Based on the lack of service everywhere else I did not want to venture to the spa. Overall I would not return to this resort and would recommend that you find another place on the lake to spend your time and money.

I thought the resort was very nice and we stayed in cottage which was very spacey. We enjoyed the mini golf and the pools although it was a bit cold, the only thing I didn't like was the arcade was closed and the canoe rentals closed pretty early. So didn't get to do those activities and also we had came in two separate cars Two in one car and two in another but the cottage has parking for one car and we used the parking next to us which seemed to irritate our rude resort neighbor. Which we did let her have her parking we just parked on the side. But all in all it is a very nice place to stay, would recommend highly! :) also the staff is very friendly.

So old style hotel. If you just need shower/sleep place, La Torretta isn't the place. I think my Dad will enjoy it - golf, fishing and spa is not my favorite activities. Good points: staff are friendly and food is good.
