A nice downtown hotel with a strange bathroom setup

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I stayed in this hotel as part of a longer stay in Canada. The hotel is nicely decorated and my specific room had a 1960s/Expo 67 theme. One strange feature of the room was that the shower had a clear window in the wall that looked through to the main bedroom and the external window. This window also allowed the "nightlight" installed in the power socket for the bathroom to shine through to the main bedroom all night. The only way to disable this was to hit the "test" button on the power socket, which also disabled the light for the toilet. Other than this, the room was clean and well laid out. The curtains had good blackout performance and the supplied coffee making facilities were very good. Also a water carafe was provided along with a drinking water stand in the corridors, so you could help yourself to drinking water. The bar and restaurant were both very nice, with the restaurant offering fantastic food and a wide selection of wines. The hotel's location was also very convenient for exploring downtown Montreal on foot or for getting connections to the bus and subway networks. The 747 airport express bus also had a stop around a 10 minute walk away

If you don’t speak French, avoid the lounge at all costs!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The location was good but I would not stay here again. If you don’t speak French the bartenders working the evening we were there are very anti-english. We waited in the lounge for 30mins waiting for service, there were 2 men behind the bar and only 2 other people in the lounge- it was a weekend night at approximately 8pm. We waited for 30 mins for anyone to approach us but it took over 30 minutes - when one of the male bartenders asked if we speaked english or french, we appologized and said english only. The bartender said if we did not speak french, he would not serve us and walked away-we were actually wondering if it was a joke or not, it wasnt. I live in Vancouver, BC and although I don’t speak every language of people I meet here, I can be respectful and even play sherades to figure out what people want-I dont discriminate what language speak or don’t speak- I was very disappointed by the 2 male staff at the lounge as a result of this and I, unfortunately, would not recommend this hotel based on these 2 insensitive male staff-they should not be working in a hotel of this class and treating people this way.

It was great we were in the middle of everything. There were great restaurants. You got to see old Quebec. There are wonderful walks around.

12 Days was too long

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Nothing has been really poor, it could ALL have been better.(Except for the welcome gift of a sketch of our home window view, and a generous late check out.) Our large room as you see in photos is a bit GREY, and Housekeeping not of a high standard, and often well into the afternoon. The basin, plug less !, TV channels limited, small number of hangers, no towel rack, but plenty hooks for a change. Few tea bags and poor resupply. Some shower mat free days. Very infrequent bed linen changes during our 12 night stay and I think the bottom sheet too small for the Super King mattress. The window into the shower is weird and after all these years needs a vanity shield/film cover. The restaurant (2 nd floor) breakfasts became so repetitive (served) we finally enjoyed the cafe next door more, where the pastries did not run out and tea/coffee are larger and better served. (One day at hotel breakfast my tea was served in takeout cardboard.) Dinner one night was excellent, great server, the second time I could not cut what had been before outstanding beef, it was kindly removed from the bill and a dessert offered. The restaurant and ground floor Bar/Reception are now a bit dull and a bit dated. Door keeping assistance which is usually excellent was not available after our delayed flight late arrival. Fine for a short stay.

Great location and lovely hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Had a brilliant time, the room was spacious and very comfortable, and housekeeping was perfect. Hotel is in a great location, just a short walk to lots of restaurants and bars, and Dorchester Square. The restaurant is also very good, great choices for both breakfast and dinner, and the bar area is very comfortable. Check in was very good, very friendly and very informative. Would definitely recommend it, and it will be our choice when we visit again.
