We stayed here for two nights and were delighted withthe location and the helpfulness of both reception and bell staff. I think breakfast [which I have heard complimented on TA] was a major disappointment. The service was not as warm and naturally friendly as we have experienced almost everywhere else in Canada. When I asked for a couple of eggs, sunny side up, I was somewhat abruptly told that was not possible. I could see chefs working in the kitchen, almost certainly prepping for the day but I know, having run my own hotel and restaurants, that it is is no trouble at all for a chef to pop on a couple of fried or poached eggs into a pan. It thus seemed unnecessarily petty at this level of hotel and with service in all other aspects being so good. And again the buffet was one of the poorest in any hotel we stayed in during our month long stay in Canada. Hot dishes weren't topped up promptly and the fruit selection was poor. As breakfast is the most important meal of the day, i would have rated this 3.5 were that possible. It would have been churlish to have rated 3.

Our stay at Le Germain Montreal was wonderful. The staff at both the front desk and concierge were beyond friendly and helpful. The rooms were decently sized and very clean; they were of a modern design but didn't feel too "cold." Every night we received free bottles of water, chocolates on the pillow and turn down service. The bathrooms came equipped with a shower/tub that was great for both. The view isn't much to write home about, but still nice to have some natural light coming in. The free breakfast every morning was a moderately simple but well executed continental, with as much free tea and coffee as you could want. The lounge by the front desk also allows for free coffee (espresso) and tea all day. Biggest draws for this hotel are the staff, clean/modern rooms and location. Definitely plan on staying here again when we return to Montreal.

This convenient boutique hotel was perfect for a McGill reunion. We were in one of their smallest rooms but it was well appointed. The beds and linens were wonderful. The breakfast buffet was good. The staff were great.

We really really liked this hotel. It was unbelievably quiet -- we were never aware of any neighboring guests. Unusual decor: black ceilings, whilte walls -- a bit stark, yet quite comfortable, nonetheless. Pleasant sitting area, very comfortable bed, and the bath was fine. The staff were wonderful, and the concierges were incredibly helpful. They steered us to some really fine restaurants, and provided us with other information we needed on the spot. We felt very well taken care of. The only critical comment relates to the breakfast offerings: the same egg dish was out every morning, and it got a bit boring. After the first time with it, I opted for the hard-boiled eggs, and I was fine with them. I eat a smallish breakfast anyhow, and they served the purpose. On the other hand, after we had chosed decaf coffee the first morning, each morning thereafter the server had what we wanted ready for us immediately after we were seated. That was very nice. We would certainly stay here again if we returned for another visit to Montreal. The location was great, close to the places we wanted to visit.

I can live with the quirkiness of the place; dark room, funky bathroom and so so house cleaning. But there are no curtains/drapes, only blinds which are not very efficient at filtering light. Not a problem in the winter, but your room is sure to be very bright at six am in the summer - does not work for me. I would not return unless it was cheap. Breakfast is decent enough and will fill you up with some variety.
