This restored historic hotel is superb in every way. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable, the service is good and the food is outstanding. The location in the heart of old town is convenient. The library adjacent to the lobby is a snug retreat with limited selections. This landmark exudes ambiance that is hard to find in contemporary structures. It will be a memorable stay in this rare selection.

We will be back. We don't have time to ell you all the nice things about this hotel but especially the service people! We booked a queen and asked for a King and were easily upgraded. The room was very well appointed with more than adequate towels, bedding, hangers, bottled water, etc. If we needed anything a quick call to front desk and it quickly appeared. No request was too small nor too large for the concierge. Helped us find a bottle of special Rye produced only in Canada and reserved it in our name at the store within walking distance. Called us after every attempt to schedule a restaurant reservation to be sure the alternative was satisfactory.

We stayed at the St-James for a few nights in a Junior Suite that was quite pleasantly classic and chic, but showed signs of wear and tear that seemed to diminish the effect. The bathroom was nice and ergonomic, but showed the same few finishing touches missing like the loose fosset or the dirty caulking in places. Nothing to really inconvenience your stay or make you want to inform the hotel yourself, but things that should be noticed by the staff and rectified in a hotel of this standing. The hotel itself however is beautiful both outside and inside and really transports you in an other world, at the edge of Old-Montreal and the start of downtown it's location can't be beat. The front desk and concierge staff were most pleasant both at check-in and for my many inquiries during our stay while my husband was out for business. All were very polite yet friendly and warm. It seems to go for many of the people here in Montreal. We would definitely stay again in the future but for the next few days we will be staying in a super modern new hotel for a change of world even bigger!

We had been traveling for over a week on planes, trains and in automobiles and had stayed at three hotels within that week other than this hotel - my wife was elated that we had gotten such a great room with soft sheets and pillows and a warm cozy room with high ceilings and a huge shower and bathroom! While we had no view from the room because the outside of the hotel was being renovated, we had no issue there since all we would see is another building in the downtown. Within walking distance to several nice restaurants and attractions and conveniently located near the Central Train station which we found perfect for our train to plane excursion. Would return in a heart beat!
