Reviews for Hotel Le St James
We stayed one night on St. Patrick's day and we had a lovely time. We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary in a Deluxe suite and the hotel upgraded our breakfast to a brunch as a gift. The staff are lovely people and the service was excellent! The room was large, clean and very charming. We enjoyed a night cap in the library, by the fireplace, and enjoyed those beautiful chandeliers. We will definitely return next year :)
We booked a room at the St-James for our 5th anniversary. Service was as expected, superior and full of attentions. Even though we were staying for only one night we got an upgraded junior suite. It was a superb suite, one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in, a nice eclectic salon also. We had dinner in town but ate the breakfast at the restaurant, which was excellent and in another superb decor. We missed out on the spa but will definitely check on that for our next visit. All in all a superb weekend, special kudos to the very friendly staff, from the concierge to the front desk, the restaurant staff, and all others who worked in the background to make it a memorable stay.

Our family stayed for 5 nights during the holidays. Conveniently located in Old Montreal. A short walk to the Notre Dame Basilica and other historical sites. The underground city or shopping network is also accessible from the rear of the hotel (something we were not told about and stumbled upon on our 4th day). Service was excellent. The bellman and/or concierge were always available to greet us as we departed and arrived. They assisted with directions and cabs when necessary. The concierge provided a list of restaurants to our agent ahead of time. Of the ones we selected, we were not disappointed. We dined at French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese restaurants. Each with their own unique vibe. We had a suite and a room with two doubles. It was the perfect amount of space for us. The hotel is charming and quaint. Its an old Bank Building. Beautiful to look at. Given the age of the building, there are some quirks. The shower temperature fluctuated abruptly. The beds were comfortable, towels plush and soft, and there was ample additional seating and writing/work areas in the rooms. The full length mirrors were awkwardly located on the closet door which does not stay open. There is a mini fridge, television, and small safe in the room. There's a turn down service with fresh bottles of water each evening. The 9th floor is quiet.

we went to montreal for a family vacation this summer with our children and wanted to stay in the old city of montreal. we were recommended this hotel by friends, but were confused by the online reviews if it was still nice or not. the larger 5-star hotels were all booked up so we decided to go with this one. we got 2 superior double rooms and 1 executive suite. its in a nice location in old montreal, but note that its a 10-15 min walk to the harbor/old port. where all the action is (not bad, but not right there). when we pulled up, no one came out to meet our car and we weren't sure how to get our luggage up because it seemed to be a door with steps only. after one of us went in, a bellman came out, and took care of the luggage happily. (when i asked how they accommodate wheelchairs, they said there is a side entrance that is wheelchair accessible). we had a stroller but we just carried it up and down the stairs. the concierge (Eddy) was VERY nice and helpful. its a small-sized quiet boutique hotel with beautiful older architecture - it used to be a bank. it's not worn down, but it could use some updating in the rooms. we had 3 diff rooms on 3 diff floors and each floor is different and unique. note that on some upper floors, there is a step up to access some of the rooms (so if wheelchair accessibility is needed, keep that in mind). the suite was definitely the nicest of all the rooms, and i'm told each suite is unique. if you plan to stay here, definitely get a suite. the other regular rooms were not so special, but were fine and nice. the two regular rooms were got did not have bathtubs, only showers (not sure if that applies to all the superior rooms or just happened to be in the ones we got - ask first if you need a bathtub for a child or prefer one). the bathrooms were clean and more updated feeling, with marble, though the one on the upper floor was quite tiny. the room on the upper floor also had a window that faced indoor machinery. the suite that we got had a very large living room area - enough to have fit 2 rollaway beds if we would have needed (there was a confusion at one point and they put them in the room, but we did not need them, but we were able to see it could have fit. useful for a family! it also has 2 washrooms). the suite was slightly on the cold side (strong a/c). i didnt notice that in the other rooms. when i tried to get a room online it said it was sold out - but when i called the hotel directly they were able to find us these last 3 rooms, so that was great (even though they were all on different floors). our car came quickly when we called it from valet. there was free wifi. there is only one elevator which causes some time delays but nothing horrible. all in all, it was a very nice hotel in old montreal that helped you get a feeling of what the old city looked like and felt like. i wouldn't call it 5-star because the rooms didn't have that newly updated feeling, but it's a 4.5 for sure. i saw a difference between the different rooms so ask when booking. oh, and it has a very classy old-style living room feeling main common reading room in the lobby - so cute!
