Perfect Family Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had a fantastic family stay at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. From the moment we arrived, every member of staff was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful, which made the whole experience feel easy and relaxed. The hotel works really well for families. Breakfast was excellent — great quality, plenty of choice, and staff who were attentive without rushing us. The pool was another highlight: perfect for unwinding after exploring the city. Our child loved it, and the atmosphere was calm and well‑managed. The rooms were comfortable, the location couldn’t be better, and the overall service consistently felt like the standard you expect from a Fairmont. A really enjoyable stay for all of us, and one we’d happily repeat.

Queen E MOTEL - A Sloppy Fairmont

The positives for this hotel are almost fortuitous. The central location and storied past are assets but perhaps this hotel's leadership rest on those laurels because the stay experience is sloppy and frustrating. - Substandard housekeeping. One day the room wasn't serviced by 7pm and then only after calling the front desk. Even on the other days, often incomplete, tea and coffee not replaced, robes and towels missing. - Lazy guest services. Dialling one 'department' the operator's answer is that you have called the wrong department; please hang up and try again despite the fact they can easily transfer the call. - No bar. On a weekend with at least three festivals and the tennis Open going on in the city, the terrace bar was closed entirely and the lobby bar closed at 10:30pm. Not a word of explanation or apology. A pub 10 minutes walk away is what was offered. Noon standard checkout is good, and Le Labo products are a nice touch. As one-time gripes the negatives could be excusable, but this is the second time at the property and similarly poor experience each time. This place is not well managed and not a good presentation of a supposedly upmarket brand.

We spent one night here as part of a Holland America pre-cruise stay. Since we arrived at around 10:30am the bell staff took care of our luggage. Check in is normally 4pm but we received a text message at 1:30 that our room was ready. We used the time to visit Norte Dame which took less than a half hour to reach using the Metro which is located right below the hotel. The underground was a good place to find a bakery for lunch. Our room was small but nicely decorated and immaculately clean. We also visited their bar and coffee shop. Everything was good. Great staff too.

Fairmont Fan stop

From the moment we arrived at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, we felt incredibly welcomed. Walking into our room to find a beautiful platter of fresh fruit and cheese waiting for us was such a thoughtful touch and immediately made us feel at home. One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the complimentary breakfast at Rosélys. After spending our days exploring Montreal on foot, the spa became our favorite place to unwind. Relaxing in the hot tub and indoor pool was exactly what we needed after walking all over the city. The location was perfect. We could easily walk to charming shops, beautiful churches, and public transportation, making it simple to experience everything Montreal has to offer. What truly made this hotel unforgettable, though, was the people. Every single employee we encountered treated us like royalty. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine hospitality made us feel cared for throughout our entire stay. We left with wonderful memories and are already looking forward to returning. We would stay at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth again in a heartbeat!

Still Our Favorite Hotel in Montreal, Despite a Few Service Hiccups

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My family has stayed at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth many times over the years, and despite a few bumps during this visit, it remains our preferred hotel in Montreal. The location is outstanding. Being connected to Central Station and the Underground City makes it incredibly convenient, and many of Montreal's attractions are within walking distance. It's hard to find a better home base for exploring the city. Check-in was mostly smooth. We had reserved two connecting rooms—a suite and a connecting king room—but initially discovered they had been assigned as non-connecting rooms. The front desk corrected that within about 10 minutes. Since we arrived around 2:30 p.m., only the king room was ready, which was understandable given the 4:00 p.m. check-in time. The suite became available right at 4:00. Unfortunately, we then ran into a frustrating issue with the key cards for the shared connecting door between the two rooms. This should have been a simple fix, but it turned into nearly an hour of being sent back and forth between the front desk, guest services, maintenance, and ultimately security before someone finally resolved the problem. Everyone we dealt with was polite, but there seemed to be very little communication between departments, and a relatively minor issue ended up taking far more time than it should have. At a hotel of this caliber, I expected a smoother resolution. Once that was behind us, however, the rest of the stay was excellent. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and housekeeping was consistently friendly and thorough throughout our visit. I particularly liked the mattress on the king size bed, I thought it was one of the more comfortable hotel beds I've ever stayed in. We dined at Rosélys several times, which I've reviewed separately. We also ordered room service one evening. While the desserts were excellent, the Caesar salad had an off flavor and the chicken was rubbery, making the meal disappointing for the price. The pool was warm and clean, and the locker rooms were spotless and well stocked. The hotel was quite busy during our stay, so the elevators could be crowded and occasionally required a wait, but that's understandable for a popular downtown hotel. Overall, this continues to be our favorite place to stay in Montreal. The hotel offers an unbeatable location, comfortable accommodations, and a welcoming atmosphere. While there are still some inconsistencies in service and communication that keep it from feeling like a true five-star experience, we had an enjoyable stay and will happily return on future visits.

I enjoyed three nights at the Queen Elizabeth in May 2024 and could not have been more pleased, with just a few exceptions. Let's start with the positive first. Every staff person I encountered was extraordinarily friendly, helpful, and kind. The Signature amenities were explained to me without my having to ask. I was greeted by name almost without exception and the person who cleaned my room left me the nicest note thanking me for a tip I'd left. It's those little things that make such a difference.

Everything about the property has been recently updated and it looks great. The fitness center is especially modern and well-equipped. The key cards are wooden rather than plastic -- another small detail that made my stay more memorable. The cocktail bar is hopping with a DJ and inventive cocktails - worth the price in opinion. In terms of location, you couldn't ask for anything better. Just steps away from the main shopping and entertainment areas, metro stations, and railway.

Now a few gripes. I booked a 420 sq ft. Deluxe Room which was supposed to have a view. I was upgraded to a Jr. Suite of the same size, but without a view and felt small. But for a family, it would be perfect because the two rooms are separate and the living area has a powder room. But the view... any room that is on the back side of the hotel looks out over the rooftops of office buildings and nothing more. Be sure to request a room with a view of the Cathedral or the plaza. And... the bathroom was tiny! I mean, really tiny.

The restaurant's buffet breakfast was as expected. Aren't all buffets the same no matter where you are? I ate dinner there the first night and it was excellent, but I never returned because the menu was so limited. Not even a salad! Fortunately, the room service menu offered a little more variety.

Final note: for spa lovers, the Queen Elizabeth has what I consider treatment rooms, not a spa. There is no relaxation room, hydrotherapy circuit, etc. However, the fitness center has a nice pool and Jacuzzi and the large changing rooms have single-sex saunas. I'd rate this property and my experience a 4-1/2 and would definitely stay again.

My whole family loved our stay at the Queen Elizabeth. It is a perfect location especially after taking the train from Quebec to Montreal. Our dinner at The Beaver Club was the highlight of my trip to Canada. It is quite rare when you dine in a restaurant that has lovely ambiance, exemplary service, and food which makes your taste buds jump for joy.

I was amazed with the service of the hotel, all your requests and info needs are fulfilled, and with great speed. The location is excellent in the downtown of Montreal.

I recently visited Montreal. My stay at the Queen Elizabeth was such a delightful experience I will not soon forget. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff is out of this world, they really make you feel like you are important, like someone very special, they seem to go out of their way to help you. A special thanks to Viviane who works at the front desk, she was so helpful and thoughtful, a real gem. I also would like to thank César who was a great help. They are top of the line. By the way, the food and service at The Beaver Club is excellent.
