Newly renovated classic hotel in the heart of Montreal. Loved our new Gold room on the 18th floor! Excellent Happy hour with a wide variety of snacks, including mini burgers, cheeses and cold cuts. Very good service in the Gold lounge on the 21st floor, even helped us making dinner reservations and explained the shopping and tourist attractions. Fabulous breakfast buffet included in our Gold Room stay. Would not book anywhere else while in Montreal!

As others write, the hotel looks great with the renovations. A bit of Scandinavian minimalist warmed up with colorful abstract murals and comfy pillows in my large king bed room. Comfortable bed and, not sure if better soundproofing or if I was lucky with neighbors, but very, very quiet, which is one of my top hotel concerns. Friendly staff, and a very large fitness room. Presidential club members (free sign-up, I think) can rent a full kit of fitness gear (shoes, socks, pants, shirt) for $10 for the length of the stay, great for people travelling very light. The hotel is certainly a top choice for someone doing long business (or tourist) hours and needing a quiet respite where you can get in some exercise, drinks at the tasteful bar and good service. BUT. There are still wrinkles or little things that make this just under 5 stars. Some can't be changed, some can. A tiny pool that is uninteresting for kids and way too short for fitness. $2 charge per bag kept with the bellhops if you come early or leave late. At the price you pay for a Fairmont, that should be complimentary. Tea bags were never refreshed in my room, even though I was there 4 days. Nespresso coffee maker didn't work well, and while it and the kettle are stored in an attractive cabinet, the cords are too short to pull out all the way, so all the steam goes into the cabinet wood. (So much for all that new furniture.) No dedicated machines to check into flights and get boarding passes.

All the staff we have encountered from the valet, bellmen, receptionist, cleaning staff, ladies in the coffee shop and by the pool have been polite, courteous and going out of their way to help. The hotel is newly refurbished and has many features and facilities. This is the most expensive of all the hotels we are using in Canada. It's good but I don't think it was worth the price.

There have been plenty of complaints about the hotel being worn and battered, but it just opened in July after a renovation, so we decided to give it a try. Had three rooms stayed for two nights - early in August. Everything was new - of course - and while the rooms were smallish they were nicely furnished, comfortable and quiet. From the 12th floor no traffic noise and nothing from other rooms. Of course, maybe we just had considerate neighbors. Staff was unfailingly pleasant and helpful, although in the morning - say around 9:30 or 10 am - there were not enough people on the front desk to handle checkouts. At one point only one person worked the desk and there was a long line of disgrunted visitors. Concierge always had good advice and the bellmen were always helpful. Had breakfast in the restaurant. Service a bit slow and oddly they recommend reservations for breakfast. One of our group has Celiac and was happy with the gluten-free choices. It's a great location. Easy access to the underground stuff, Gray Line tours just two blocks away and it takes about 15 minutes (max) to walk to the old city. Not cheap, but a lovely place to stay.
