The location was good as far as going to Old Town Montreal. We had a junior room and it was large with nice French door windows. The lighting was not good (too dark), the shower was small, and the lounge chair was hard as a rock. It could have used a round table to eat on when doing takeout and another regular chair. The night end tables could have had drawers. The storage was good and I loved the l-shaped desk area. The shower was really tiny and larger folks would find it difficult to move in. Be aware pets are allowed and we did hear a dog crying in the next room when the owners went out. We asked to be put in a quiet area but was on the side of the hotel with a lot of truck deliveries and trash collection. It wasn’t too bothersome though to us. I am not a fan of dogs in a hotel cause when the owners leave they could be crying or barking and disturbing to the surrounding rooms. I wish the hotel restaurant had more food options! The bartender did not arrive till 7 pm on a Saturday night. There also was a teenage birthday party going on in the lobby on Saturday night and we were hoping to go down to the bar area and have drinks by the fire on a cold night. We were told we couldn’t sit in the most charming area of the lobby. I did not appreciate this since we had paid to stay there and should have had access! The room service was good and the breakfasts were good except for one breakfast in which I received burnt black pancakes. Why even serve this? The chef needs to say I goofed and remake them. They were inedible. I would say this hotel needs to beef up its room furnishing a bit and to elevate the bar’s alcohol selection. It was run very haphazardly and by people who seemed not to know their job. I requested a mimosa one night and the champagne wasn’t chilled. Very sloppy but indicative of the fact they don’t seem to care enough to run the bar properly. I would like to reiterate that the staff was friendly, the maids came quickly when you left and the food service was very prompt. Also, the location is next to Old Town Montreal. I would stay here again.

Our first time in Montreal, and Canada. We arrived around 10pm. The reception staff were efficient, welcoming and very helpful with any issues. The Gault is in an old quiet area. We had rooms at the back - no view, but quiet - a big plus. One can sleep there. They are large, a bit grey (actually very grey) but comfortable. The shower room was good, once we found out how to turn on the light. (a small rocker switch under a slide). My one criticism in the room related to the TV. It had clearly been altered from its original setup by someone who never tested his work. Initially, the remote did nothing except turn the thing on. The info book offered little guidance. Only once you knew to select HDMI 1 as an input did you receive anything - and the number of channels, many of which you had to pay for, would have done credit to the Stazi filing system in old East Berlin. Fortunately, with a phone, you can cast TV onto HDMI2. We did that and saw no cable TV till we moved on.. We had breakfast in the hotel one morning only. The food was good. The wait wasn't, Fortunately there are plenty of eating houses nearby. The Gault is a good hotel, the positives far outweigh the niggles and we enjoyed our stay.

Smaller than I expected but still a pleasant place to stay. We stayed in the loft with terrace room. It was nice to walk out and enjoy the terrace even though there wasn't much of a view. Some of the sliding doors for the bathroom were very heavy and hard to move so if you're a little modest, then you may take issue to that but we didnt mind. The front desk staff were all wonderful and very accommodating. The only fault I noted was that in the online booking agent we used noted that the hotel provided covered valet parking but they just park them in a gravel courtyard nestled behind the hotel. Definitely safe enough and not an issue for us. The location is very convenient and close enough to walk to all the hot spots but far enough away to be quiet and clam. We would definitely love to stay here again.

We stayed for several nights. Two things that are truly wonderful about this hotel is the location and the staff. Everyone was friendly, professional and helpful. We also enjoyed the free coffee in the morning. We had a Junior Suite and a Corner Suite. While the Corner Suite is a bit larger and brighter, we both agreed that we preferred the Junior Suite. The decor of the Junior Suite was a bit warmer and the bathroom a bit larger with a toilet that was separate.

If you want to spent US$600 on a room with ripped chairs, scuffed furniture, and limited light in the bathroom, this is the place for you. If not, stay elsewhere.
