Reviews for Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa

First impressions were horrible

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

We stopped in to grab coffees and breakfast at the property (we are currently staying in an Airbnb and have three nights booked here at the end of our trip). When we arrived at the hotel to ask if we can pay for breakfast and coffee, the lady scoffed and asked if we were guests of the resort and when we told her that we’ll be checking in on Thursday, she said “we don’t serve non guests.” Not sure why they would decline service and also to future hotel guests… lol great first impression. Not. The intercontinental in Tahiti had EXCEPTIONAL service!

Nice resort, but....

The Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort is mostly a very nice property. The staff are friendly. However, I have a few complaints which are as follows. 1) I paid for a premium bungalow, which is advertised as one of the 3 end units on each pier; but that's not what I was given. We were given room 84, which is not an end unit. In fact, it sits slightly behind room 86. I was expecting an unobstructed view of the ocean and that's not what we got. Room 86 blocked half of our ocean view. I paid a premium price for a premium room and it's really not acceptable to pull a bait and switch like they did. 2) My second complaint is regarding maintenance and upkeep of the property. There is an ice machine on each of the 3 piers and the one on our pier was broken during our entire visit. The machines on the other 2 piers were both out of ice on the last day of our trip which forced me to spend a lot of time hunting for ice. Though it did not impact me and my wife, we spoke with 2 other couples who complained that their air conditioner and coffee maker not working, which re-enforced our perception that the property is not being maintained as well as it should be. 3) My last comment is regarding the food during the Polynesian Dinner night, which was average at best. For $100 per person, I would expect better quality food. The staff was also quite busy and never even bothered to ask us if we wanted cocktails. For the price you pay, I would expect a premium service. The resort is great but I would say, not quite up to a premium standard.

Positive notes…the bungalow over the water and the view were amazing. The ability to have my coffee and snorkeling right of the back of our bungalow was an amazing experience. The breakfast buffet was delicious and was included in our stay. Most of the staff we encountered were friendly. The bottle of wine left in our room was a nice touch too. I also had a fabulous massage at the spa. I found it to be a great value and my therapist was excellent. The negatives…lunch and dinner were just ok. We stayed 3 nights so we had lunch daily on property. Expensive. Skip the cocktails. They are more mocktail since I’m sure mine didn’t include any alcohol. We opted for beer and wine on property which you can’t really mess up. We saw the bar closing and how they were weighing and measuring every bottle. Guess there’s been issues. We only at dinner at the crepe place. It was ok and honestly, we were too tired to leave since it was our day of travel. The bungalow could have also used a good restraining. The outdoor area was faded and worn. We went off property for dinner the other 2 evenings. Rudy’s was amazing and sent vans to accommodate our party of 14. We also dined at Holy. They also provided transportation. I’d go back to both! I gave it 3 stars…the location and views are definitely a solid 4 stars. The breakfast was 4 stars too. But dinner and drinks…If I was reviewing dinner and drinks…it would be 1 star.

Expect a 3 star property, not a 5 star.

First let me start with the positive, it’s a great location and the water is beautiful surrounding the resort. You can snorkel right off your room Deck and see so many beautiful fish and coral. The resort is also very clean. Sadly, the compliments start there. My husband and I travel a lot, and stay in 3-5 star hotels around the world, so it doesn’t come lightly when I say this is a 3 star hotel, not a 5 star. I had read lots of reviews calling it a 5 star, do not be fooled. The hotel is very dated, the furniture in the rooms looks more like the Golden Girls wicker than in the hotel online photos. The service is average at best, and the food is not great at all. Very bland. I wish we had chosen the Sofitel, which just got a brand new remodel. This property reminds me more of a timeshare property than a hotel. I think if you’re looking for a good deal overwater in the villas, and you want a good price and location but don’t care about it being nice, this is your place. If you’re looking for anything more upscale, definitely don’t stay here. Stay at the Sofitel. The beach is very small here, there is only one pool and it’s filled with kids. They really don’t even cocktail the pool or the beach, service is lacking. Again, it’s clean and safe, but expect a 3 star and nothing more. Just because it has a spa they call it a 5 star and it’s nothing very nice.

Fantastic Over the Water Bures but very average or less food and beverage

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The bures over the lagoon with chest high water and colorful corral and tropical fish are amazing but the food, beverage, housekeeping, checkin and out and service are average at best. For a $1,000 per night stay it should be better. People are very nice
