The Leela Mumbai

This was our 13th visit to India over the past 30 years. We have stopped in a range of properties from 1 to 5 star in that time and this was our 1st visit to the Leela and it certainly wont be the last. We had booked a club room for 2 nights to round off 3 weeks travelling around India. From being picked up at the airport to being dropped off the service was impeccable and we were made to feel like royalty. We arrived early but we were offered an upgrade at a good deal and were subsequently given a suite which was great. Gerald in the club lounge went out of his way with his staff to make us feel at home. The reception team saw that we were taken to the club lounge and made comfortable within 5 minutes of arrival. The hotel is excellent, far better than we expected and we did use the pool and spa area. Surythan at the pool constantly giving us water when the bottles were empty. Despite some of the reviews I have read, the pool was very clean and there was constantly somebody sweeping and removing leaves from the pool. It was also a lot warmer than other external pools I have swam in. We were half board and had access to the club lounge where an assortment of snacks were provided at different times of the day. The food was excellent and there was always a wide choice available. Breakfast and Dinner were both of a high standard and waiters were constantly bringing us food to try. What made the trip extra special was my wife had had dental work in India and was struggling to eat and staff were clearly aware of this and brought her soft food to eat. A very nice touch. We were celebrating a belated wedding anniversary and were given a nice cake in the room. This is the best hotel we have stopped in India and we will definitely be back when we are next in Mumbai.

The Leela Mumbai has become my home away from home. Staff and mgmt are amazing. Service is excellent. It's the experience that makes me go back. Of course the outdoor area is best in Mumbai.

Incompetent hotel, that made a huge mistake by checking us in to a previously cancelled booking (which we later re-booked and paid for again) instead of checking us in for our valid prepaid booking on arrival. We were Not advised of any issue or mistakes with the bookings during our stay or upon checkout. The hotel then took 30,000INR from our credit card that was left on file without our permission. The card was authorised for purchases made during our stay ONLY, of which we made none. And yet almost 2 months after our stay, and without our permission, we got charged 30,000INR for the room cost that was already prepaid. They are refusing to refund this, stating that WE as the GUEST are responsible to pay for THEIR checkin error. We have been back and forth for 2 months trying to resolve this. We have sent all proofs such as booking confirmations and credit card statements proving that we had prepaid bookings that should have been used to check us in on arrival, but the hotel management continue to blame us, and outright lie to us. They won't even give us a simple apology for their errors and put things right. They simply keep trying to cover up errors on their side and shift blame onto the paying guests. If you feel like getting ripped off, go ahead and book this hotel, otherwise stay away. There are plenty of better options nearby and at cheaper rates, the only reason we used to choose the Leela was for the service from the hotel staff we had received in the past. But regardless of this, we will NEVER stay here again after how you have made us feel. You can forget words said, but you can never forget how you’ve been made to feel! If I could rate this hotel and the way we have been dealt with at Minus 100 l would. Leela you should feel absolutely ashamed at how you have treated fully paying guests who used to love The Leela, and be loyal to your brand. No Doubt The Leela will reply to this with their usual dismissive and disrespectful tone, claiming they have done everything to help us and claiming it’s our fault. DO NOT BELIEVE THIS.
