Lovely hotel, very handy for Mumbai airport.

We had a long stopover and chose the Leela due to its proximity to the airport and its good reputation. We were met at the airport by a lovely driver who met us, took our bags, gave us iced water and drove us in style to the hotel. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and we were charmed by how friendly and helpful everyone was. Our room was great, clean, well appointed with lots of amenities and a great bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

A Disappointing Experience at Leela Mumbai

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

My husband and I recently chose Leela Mumbai for what we anticipated would be a luxurious and relaxing stay, given its association with the reputable Leela brand. We trust this brand known for its excellence from over a decade of positive experiences at Leela Palace in Dehli and Leela Gurugram with only the most exceptional heavenly experience of device, beauty, and food. In coming to Mumbai, husband shared he wanted to stay at Oberoi as he only stays there in Mumbai and has wonderful relationship with them. They are wonderful. However, I begged to stay at Leela because of how wonderful they have been in Dehli. Unfortunately, the resort failed spectacularly and catastrophically to live up to our expectations. The abysmal service marred our entire visit. A beautiful space means nothing without true customer service and care for needs of guests. Leela Mumbai has lost its way due to bad management and lack of honor. Upon arrival, the first sign of trouble was with our airport pickup which, despite being included in our deluxe suite package, was initially neglected as in were not going to get picked up despite having paid for this as part of our package. The hotel offered it as a "complimentary" service only after we pointed out their oversight. We were downgraded from a luxury sedan to a very simple Toyota. To “correct” this, we were then "upgraded" to a room that barely met standards—certainly not the luxury we were promised. The failures in basic hospitality were glaring: no clean towels were provided when asked, our room lacked the standard turn down service, and a broken glass that resulted in a cut to my leg and wrist was not attended to and cleaned despite my explicit request for a thorough cleanup to ensure safety, particularly for my husband. This is not solely poor service but a physical danger. The management, led by Devina, was apologetic but ultimately ineffective. She asked what she could do. I shared we needed assistance arranging a car for a road trip—Devina promised early in the morning to handle everything and she would use my card to pay. I gave explicit ask for Luxury car with 3 liter engine as we are driving over 600 km and want to ensure we are safe. a task I had to entrust to the hotel so stopped my own search as she said she understood. Again, this was morning. By late evening, she last minute provided were links to car rental services that you find at top of google search that did not even that did not meet our needs. It was evident she performed no research, nothing was organized. There was no initiative or urgency. We had no options and spent our evening resolving and morning -wasting valuable time and to be lied to was beyond disappointing. It was obvious zero effort was made. The only person who stepped up was Narender from Concierge service. Who, late at night, worked tirelessly to work with us to provide a solution. We finally booked acar late in the evening. However, the car promised was a deception. The agency promised a new car, which we wanted for safety, and that we could pay by card. In the morning, they sent us an old damaged vehicle, insisting on cash payment, a clear bait-and-switch tactic that felt borderline criminal. Again. Narender stepped up to find us the right solution finally securing us a Maybach. The one person who redeemed any trust and embodied the diamond standard of excellence that we love of Leela was Narender from concierge. He went above and beyond in every respect. Our Jio was not accepting payment, he resolved this issue quickly and kindly. We had a Suite so required special care to access internet. This special instructions was not delivered by management or the team. Narender came and helped us. Lastly, most touching, Narender put 2000 rupees of his own money to secure our car. He did not tell us he did this. We only figured it out when we saw the bill and asked him why he did not tell us. He declined to accept payment back - but we insisted. Honorable, excellence, integrity in service and style. The man is a blessing to any business and is the only individual who sought to provide service versus give dishonest lip service. The food was another low point, utterly bland and less flavorful than paper. Even the complimentary champagne and cold bath—misguided gestures as we don’t drink alcohol—alongside cheap spa vouchers, could not salvage the respect and trust lost during our stay. However while Narender would have silently given to us to ensure we had the best stay, Devina added insult to injury, promises of a reduced rate as a form of apology were never fulfilled. It's saddening to report that while other Leela properties like the Leela Palace stand out for their excellence, Leela Mumbai is a stark and disappointing contrast. My husband and I left feeling that any semblance of service and integrity was absent. The only path I can see to return to actual Leela standards is change in management. Care and excellence come from the top. It’s an embarrassment not just to the brand, but to the very essence of hospitality.
