Reviews for The Oberoi, Mumbai

Overall a good experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

I stayed at Oberoi Nariman point during a business trip and was overwhelmed by the service. Staff anticipated all needs before I mentioned! Meals served in room were delicious and beautifully plated. The pool was perfect for unwinding after a long day of meetings. Highly recommend this hotel for both business and family travelers.

Another fabulous stay at The Oberoi

I am a frequent return visitor to The Oberoi, Marine Drive, and it continues to be my hotel of choice in Mumbai. The service is exceptional, with a genuine personal touch that makes every stay feel effortless and welcoming. The location on Marine Drive is perfect for me, offering calm, space and beautiful views while remaining central to everything I need. Quite simply, there is nothing else in the city that compares. It has everything I look for in a hotel, and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Special Hotel in Mumbai

I really had such a wonderful visit and felt very sad to leave. Everyone at the hotel was helpful, friendly and always smiling. Every task was done perfectly with pride and efficiency. The food was so good. I ate more than I usually eat because the food was delicious. Special thanks to Remi at the pool 15 out of 10 and to Rishi Dawson who was the nicest guy around. Thank you Team Oberoi in Mumbai.

Home away from home

Fab stay experience as we recently stayed at Oberoi Mumbai. It absolutely is our home away from home. The hospitality is supreme and they treat all guest with the best service. All requests are immediately responded to. Our lunch experience at Vetro also turned out quite wholesome with some authentic Italian food. Surely recommend to anyone looking for a luxury stay in Mumbai.

Fantastic Team at the Fenix Restaurant & Delicious Food, But Overall Poor Customer Service and Rooms are basic

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

I had to take a breath before I wrote this hotel review for my latest holiday. Firstly because this is a largely a constructive review and I do not enjoy writing negative reviews and secondly, it was the last Oberoi hotel I stayed at before I left India and it meant my journey ended on an unpleasant note on top of other things that happened to me at Mumbai Airport (but this hotel is not to blame for that part). I also hold the Oberoi brand in high regard and had mostly excellent to exceptional experiences in all other Oberois I stayed at in India. First, the positives. The team who prepared my food from the Fenix restaurant was fantastic. I have to thank Rishi the restaurant manager who was very warm, welcoming and efficient in ensuring the Fenix restaurant met and attended to my needs, Shivam who was very patient with me, taking my order and specific requirements, and re-validating the order as well after he meticulously typed up everything (impressive!), as well as the chef on duty on the night of 31st December (I forgot his name sorry). Shivam also contacted me that evening to provide me with complimentary desserts from the buffet which I thought was so very nice. Thank you Shivam. The following evening, Siddarth helped me from Fenix when Shivam and Rishi was not working, and Shivam had given Siddarth the information from the previous evening. Thanks Siddarth - he looked after me very well as well and there were no issues with the Fenix Restaurant team or their wonderful food. The food from the Fenix restaurant was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend dining at the restaurant or getting in-room dining. Shivam did a wonderful job. Now for the problems. The problems started as soon as I checked in to the hotel. I was told my by tour company that I would have a bay view so that is what I expected. I opened the curtains and nope, nothing. The bigger problem I had was I was given a room opposite the Fire Exit door, crammed inside an uncomfortable corner and I was about to live with that until all of a sudden when I was unpacking, all my electricity went out. I did not have a very good vibe about the room and I asked to be moved. That took half an hour with the front desk and then the housekeeping manager (sorry but cannot remember his name and wish I could), helped me when front desk did nothing and said they would look into it but never rang me back. The housekeeping manager who was a lovely gentleman helped me move to the other room, as did a bellboy. I can't fault them. The room still had no view but at least there was electricity. I had a 'Welcome' tray of sweet goods in the room and someone had bitten into one of the cakes. The rest of them were dry and stale. I of course did not even try to consume it. It looks like someone had not cleaned out the room and left that tray of goods from the last guest. That was the 2nd red flag for me - this is NOT Oberoi standards. For any other guest, they may have tried to consume the goods which was obviously sitting there for days and contaminated by some other guest and they may have gotten sick. I normally take photos of pleasant experiences and I took photos of pretty much every hotel I stayed at and found that I took no photos of my room in this hotel which says it all! I only took photos of my food and a couple of photos of the public area of the hotel - that says it all! Do not come here expecting typical Oberoi-type rooms - I was very disappointed; this is an older hotel and the rooms are probably due for renovation soon. The customer service here leaves a lot to be desired. It is nowhere near Oberoi standards and having stayed at numerous Oberois, Leela Palace and other 5-star hotels during my 23-day stay in India, I was already spoilt and expected something great here but I was very disappointed. The Oberoi's WhatsApp customer service chat line here is very much below average and whoever is manning that line needs to be kicked off. Get some training off the other Oberois and understand what efficient and decent customer service is. On night 1, when I got my in-room dining, 2 of my drinks was missing. I messaged the hotel through WhatsApp. They went away and I heard nothing for 15 mins, already halfway through my food. I followed up because I heard nothing. Then they said someone will deliver it to my room and I ended up getting my drinks 30 mins later. The following day, I was suspicious. I checked my hotel bill and I was billed for those 2 drinks sent to my room. So some clown had decided to charge me for those 2 extra MISSING drinks when they had already been paid for as part of my dinner package. I immediately raised this to Shivam in the restaurant who organised my dinner order but he was not available and then the hotel cleared the bill for me. So what would have happened if I was not that incredulous, suspicious traveller always checking and questioning everything? I would have had a nasty surprise upon checking out. I also do not know how they can bill someone 12 USD for 2 small cans of diet coke in any case (this was the charge on my account). Bit of highway robbery there. As incredulous as I am, I needed to ensure the charge got removed so I asked for the latest invoice to be sent to my room so I have proof. I asked for it to be slipped under my door that evening before 1am (I gave them 1 hour to do this - fair enough)? At 1.14am I did not know what happened and messaged them. Then they told me it is outside my door - I specifically told them to slip it under my door so I know when it would arrive then I can go to sleep but they failed to follow the instructions. I was waiting for no reason. The next evening, I did the same thing - asked for another check of my bill in case the hotel added charges which they should not have added. I had not asked for a printed bill yet, just a quick check which should not take long. 20 minutes later. Nothing. 30 minutes later. Nothing. At 30 minutes they told me they are still checking - what?? At this point I was fuming. I was busy trying to get my stuff together to get ready to return home on a long flight and I could not deal with this ineptitude. Eventually after almost 1 whole hour did they manage to tell me what was on the bill. What sort of service is this? Motel efficiency maybe? I stayed at motels in my early 20s and even they were more efficient than this! When we stay at hotels like the Oberoi, we pay for not just the property and the comfort of the rooms but the customer service. I certainly do! It is what differentiates the brand or so you think. Upon checking out I wanted to talk to management as I felt so strongly about this. The General Manager did act fast and sent me an email shortly after I left the hotel offering to discuss my experiences. I was on my way home on a long flight and could not discuss my experiences at that point. When I returned home, I was too tired to do anything about it and I was wondering - what is the point - I had left and I was not going to get any compensation for anything anyway? Discussing further about it would only increase my stress levels and I'd rather forget about the whole experience. However in the spirit of helping this hotel improve their services and reach proper Oberoi standards, this review encapsulates everything they need to know to improve their services. I am more than happy to provide more detail if they need to pinpoint certain people or details to improve their services. I would have rated this 1 star but I wanted to give them an extra 2 stars because of (1) Fenix Restaurant - Rishi, Shivam, the Chef (on duty on the evening of 31st December around 6pm/7pm- please identify him) and Siddarth (2) The wonderful food provided by the team in (1) and (3) The housekeeping manager on duty on 31st December at about 5pm/6pm. I wish I remembered his name but I am sure if they wanted to, they can find out who was on duty that evening. Also, the fact that the General Manager got in touch with me immediately after I left. This is the only reason my review attracted an extra 2 stars.
