When booking my trip I couldn't decide between this hotel and another on the island. I waffled back and forth far too many times to count but I finally settled on the White Elephant after many friends told me how amazing it was. I had my doubts that I would be wowed (I have horrible luck sometimes) but in the end I was wowed and SO glad I chose it! The only snafu I had was my own fault - I had reserved a rental car and didn't take the taxi from the ferry. I should have done because walking to the rental car office was NOT fun with luggage! It all worked out in the end though because my room wasn't ready when I eventually made it to the hotel and I got an upgraded suite! The room I had was SUCH an amazing room. I didn't want to leave it and seriously considered extending my stay to enjoy it longer. The fireplace wooed me so much that one night I opted for room service so I could sit by the fire and listen to the ocean. The bed was another highlight of the room. Super poofy and you sink right in. I slept so wonderfully in this bed - which is rarely the case for me in hotels! I also had a small balcony which overlooked Mother's Beach and while the weather was a bit too windy for it, I did sit outside for a small bit to enjoy it because it was such a great view. Overall it was an amazing stay and I can't wait to return again someday!

The warm friendly welcome we received was the start of a great weekend stay at the White Elephant. The staff was very accommodating and the hotel was outstanding in every way. The room was excellent with a stunning Harbour view. A nice fireplace and very spacious living room area made the stay unbelievably comfortable. The location was also great, just a few blocks from downtown and an easy walk.

We are staying in the white elephant residence for Christmas stroll weekend. When we arrived neither tv worked and the engineer had to come to fix them. The fridge door won't close and they will presumably fix that after we go (an engineer was supposed to come yesterday but did not). It's Sunday now, of a two day stay, and the living room tv does not work again. The microwave did not work so they delivered a tea kettle so we could at least boil water. Before we arrived, I wrote their "pre-arrival concierge" to ask if s/he could make dinner reservations. I guess shough I should have asked earlier, as I was (rudely I thought) informed that everything was booked and we should just try to walk in somewhere (without any suggestions as to where). So I called around and got very good reservations for both nights -- we had lovely meals at The Proprietor and Island Kitchen. Lastly, the airport taxi took us to the main hotel, where we found out we had to check in somewhere else, and then we found out our actual room was in a third building. This was all at night so in the daytime we woke up not knowing where we were in relation to the main building, where we have brunch reservations, and there is no map of the various hotel properties in the room or on its website..I really wish we had booked somewhere else, there is just too much to figure out during a weekend, I feel like most of our holiday is dealing with hotel issues!

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful experience at this hotel, fantastic service all around from island arrival to departure. We stayed in room with harbour view which I highly recommend. We were starving after our ferry ride and decided to try the hotel restaurant for lunch which was unexpectedly very good, we also had breakfast there. We are already planning our next trip to Nantucket, and look forward to staying at the White Elephant again.

Spent one night there last week, and they really have it buttoned down. Swift pickup at the ferry, and although our room was not ready at arrival, they checked our bags, and they drove us back into town for lunch. they called us on the cell when the room was ready. Great view from very nice room, well appointed, great soaps, shampoos etc. They sent up a lovely cake for our anniversary. The only complaint was that our room was close to the bar, and although it was not crowded, you could hear the muzak with the windows open. You would think they could figure this one out. Checkout and drop off at ferry equally nice. Friendly, largely Jamaican staff, and this was their last weekend before the hotel quiets; it does not close entirely I am informed.Very nice weekend on the island.
