About the Hotel

If you think "all-inclusive Jamaica vacation" and "bespoke experience" are mutually exclusive, welcome to The Caves. Built into honeycomb cliffs that drop off into the Caribbean Sea, a dozen colorful wooden cottages are nestled among 10 acres of lush vegetation, making for a secluded retreat that's increasingly rare in Negril. Sidle up to a candlelit table carved into a limestone grotto at the Blackwell Rum Bar and dine on gourmet home cooking under the stars – this is beach living at its best.

Reviews for The Caves

Hidden Gem in Negril

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary last week at The Caves and couldn't have had a nicer time. The staff were amazing. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, and willing to help out in any way. Chris transported us from the airport and made sure our trip got started off on the right foot. He shared his knowledge of Jamaican culture, history, and was available to transport you anywhere to see the sites. The meals were delicious and the private cave dinner made our 30th a special evening. Although we never met the "behind the scenes" chefs their meals were one of the many highlights of our trip. Life guards Earl and Brandon were very attentive to making sure guests had easy access to snorkeling gear and kayaks and we enjoyed both sharing their knowledge of marine life in the area. Brandon was an impressive cliff diver and offered instructions to guest for safe cliff jumping. Stacey, Fernando, Floyd, and Margaret are a few of the money of the wonderful people who also made our stay very memorable.

Excellent

Just wow. This is the place to go for three or four nights to just switch off and relax. We were in the birds nest room, I think that is what it’s called, absolutely amazing views and room. The food is amazing. I like fact you can help send to drinks etc. The cave dinner omg so romantic. I would rate this 9.5 out of ten. A couple of minor tweaks and would be a 10. It would be nice to have some live music some nights and would be great if the actually bar with oxtails stayed open a bit later. For me this is the perfect 3 or 4 night getaway :) We are staying in their other property Strawberry Hill in August can’t wait!

Uniquely Incredible

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My wife and I just returned from 9-days at the Caves in Negril and need to report that this place is uniquely incredible. 12 cottages, on the cliffs, over the caves, it has full access to deep blue, crystal clear, Caribbean waters. The facility is meticulously well kept, the staff is top notch, the food is wonderful, and I’m ready to return as soon as possible. We really found what we were looking for. Here is my review. First off, if you are looking for modern architecture, glass, marble, and fountains, then this may not be the place for you. Instead of this, the Caves offers classic Jamaican charm – rustic, and somewhat dated, but clean and well preserved. The grounds are better kept than the larger resorts on 7-mile beach; we never saw trash, cigarette butts, or empty bottles. You may see some rust and some paint that’s not perfect – but again it presents better than almost all mega resorts on the island. If you are looking for a party hotel, with thumping bass, dancing, and parties, then this may not be the place for you. Instead, we found quiet, laid-back relaxation. This is a peaceful hotel. But, if you want to party, Rick’s Café is just an 8-minute walk, and you can go nuts. Please know, that there is occasionally noise between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM every day. It comes and goes but between music from Ricks Café, and random party boats passing by, there is the occasional disturbance. Everything goes silent at 10:00 PM, and the mornings are filled with the sounds of lapping water and birds. If you are looking for large pools with swim up bars that are packed with cigarette-smoking drunks, then this is not the resort for you. The pool is small, clean, refreshing, never crowded, with a perfect view of the sea waters below. If you are looking for a resort with multiple restaurants including French, Italian, sushi, etc., then this may not be the resort for you. Every meal we had at the caves was wonderful, but this is legit Jamaican food and not the watered-down resort fare you will find at the big box chain resorts. In our travels in Jamaica we have ventured out of the tourist areas to experience authentic Jamaican food, and this is what we were served at the Caves. The dishes included curry goat, ox tail, conch… It sounds counterintuitive to order soup in the tropics, but if you go, order the soup. Every time it was amazing. Dinners a typically served on a rooftop patio but for a unique experience the Cave’s offers a different dining option – a candle lit dinner in the entrance of one of the caves. We did this on our last night. The host met us, escorted us into a candlelit cave, with a table covered in flower petals. As the sun set and the stars came out, we dined listening to the waves crashing into the entrance of the cave. My wife loved it. The ocean was clear, as far as you can see. The cliff diving was amazing – I got a 32’ jump in and numerous dives up to 18’. The Caves has kayaks, snorkeling equipment, and floaties. Branden and Earl are always ready to help. We snorkeled every day – seeing lots of colorful fish and coral, sting rays, and barracudas. Beach loungers and umbrellas were plentiful. Since it’s set on the cliffs, there is no sand beach. But that also means that there are no intrusive beach vendors and no sand getting tracked back to your room. We stayed in the Blue Hole suite, the affordable option to the ocean front cottage, and it was delightful. Our room was quiet, other than the sounds of the waters crashing into the blue hole. We were a little concerned when we learned that there are not traditional windows with glass and screens, but instead were simple plantation shutters, open to the elements. There were no bugs, and with the aircon the room stayed cool at all times. The king-sized bed was comfortable, the water pressure in the shower was strong, and the fans were quiet. The only thing that we would change would be the lighting; more light would be good. The staff was awesome. Stacy Ann (maybe the best employee there) greeted us every morning with delicious breakfasts, including the banana pancakes. And at dinner Omar was top notch, a real pro. The maid service and turndown service was prompt and comprehensive. It’s important to give a shout out to the groundskeepers also; they have done an incredible job bringing this place back from the devastating storms back in February – hard working and always friendly – “respect mon.” These may be some of the reasons why folks like Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Seal, Bono, and other Hollywood elites frequent the Caves - and why many review sites and influencers rank the Caves Hotel as one of the top adults-only all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. We will be back!!!

Amazing place, Amazing People

The Caves was absolutely beautiful! My daughter picked it out as her graduation trip. I was nervous as I had been to Jamaica before but stayed at the Sandals. I do NOT regret it for a minute! It was like we were a part of a family! We met some really amazing people that were staying at the resort as well as that work there. Friends for life I’m hoping! The hospitality was great! The food was amazing! Drinks top notch and the view is incredible! Activities that we took part in were Snorkeling, kayaking, cliff jumping, rum tasting, cave dining and an amazing massage. The rest of the time we spent enjoying the sun, ocean, pool and just relaxed! Thank you to everyone! Special shout out to Brandon aka PK, Earl, Randy, Stacey, Floyd, Omar, Zoom, Elizabeth, Edina (sp?) and many many more!! Everyone was great! Thank you again and we hope to be back one day!!❤️🌴☀️🇯🇲

Great staff. Unbelievable access to the water. Swimming in the caves was neat and mysterious. Looked forward to every meal. We went with my family and two kids to celebrate their high school graduation.
