Montpelier Plantation & Beach in Nevis, Saint Kitts and Nevis

Poised above the Caribbean Sea in the lush hills of Nevis, Montpelier Plantation & Beach is a breathtaking sanctuary far removed from the stresses of modern life. This beautiful 60-acre estate, a Relais & Chateaux property, has been meticulously restored in keeping with its heritage of elegance and style. Classic island cuisine tantalizes your tastes, while spacious guest rooms feature tranquil vistas of the hills and sea. Service is personable and discreet, and the options for recreation and quiet time are seemingly endless.

Nevis, a secluded volcanic island awash in laid back charm, promises the perfect balance of relaxation and activity. At the center of Nevis stands the spectacular cloud-fringed Nevis Peak, a dormant volcano covered by dense tropical forest. The atmosphere is an intoxicating blend of sunlight, sea air and fantastically abundant greenery. Most of the former plantation fields have given way to this tropical vegetation, though a small portion of land is still farmed for sugar that is used in the kitchens of Montpelier. Read a good book as you lounge on the private beach, or treat yourself to a massage, yoga or game of tennis. Golf nearby or join an island ecologist on hikes through the island's tropical rain forests and deserted sugar plantations.

Visited last week with my two daughters. While it may appeal to couples, this is the perfect place to stay for relaxation and getting away from it all. We needed rest and quiet and the support with day trips and we got all that, and felt better as every day passed. Our hosts were very kind and friendly to my two daughters and when I needed help with the itinerary and changing things it was never a problem. The views from the plantation rooms are spectacular; I could not get enough of our balcony view. The pool is gorgeous and once I got the hang of afternoon tea, I felt like me and my daughters started a new ritual for ourselves. I would attend all the dinner events, they are really special. From the yoga class, to the boat rented for us, everything turned out really nice. My only regret is we did not have one more day!! Thanks to the entire team, we felt pampered and relaxed and will return again when we need this kind of quiet and loveliness.

We just returned from an incredible week at Montpelier Plantation & Beach to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. As travelers who usually stay in villas rather than resorts, Montpelier was the perfect blend of a relaxed and intimate setting coupled with amazing staff and service. The staff is truly there to make sure you have a great experience. As others have commented, you can essentially wake up each morning and tell the staff what you would like to do that day, and they'll make it happen! While we were on Nevis, we visited a few other popular resort choices on the island out of curiosity (Nisbet, Four Seasons, Oualie). Afterwards, we were even more thankful that we had chosen Montpelier for our time in Nevis for a few key reasons: the incredibly friendly and warm staff members, the chic aesthetic, and the fantastic drinks and food. We saw many guests from other resorts come for dinner at 750 restaurant and rave about the experience. Highly recommend: massages in Montpelier's open-air spa, tennis on the scenic court, the Caribbean buffet, the Monday beach barbecue, afternoon tea by the pool, and Friday cocktail hour. Off-site, dinner at Bananas and lunch at Lime Inn or Sunshine's on Pinney Beach. Couple of things to note: the mountain breezes at Montpelier keep away mosquitoes but mean that it can get cold, especially at night. Also, the Montpelier crowd skews older (e.g. post-retirement age, and hardly anyone else was in their twenties/thirties besides us) so it definitely isn't a crazy nightlife scene. But if you're looking for an ultra-relaxing tropical vacation with impeccable service, this is it!

We stepped out of the taxi and we were greeted by Cassandra who instantly made us relax as she took us on a tour of the planation and although it was was late in the day the grace of the Plantation echoed into our bodies. We settled in our room which was wonderfully clean spacious and bright which again relaxed us another degree. After getting spruced up we headed to the Main house to be greeted by the Platation Manager Helen who introduced us to Muffin the Platation owner we could not help but feel we have been there before as it felt extremely comfortable. The entire staff made us welcome and wanted. I would like to tip my cap in particular to Jackie who looks after guest service needs to Canrauwn whose mixology is second to none. The sprawling lands of Montepelier's location is excellent high atop Nevis giving you spectacular views in all directions. The entire experience was wonderfully relaxing and I intend on visiting again soon.

My wife and I and our two grown children and their significant others had a memorable dinner at Montpelier. The location and setting is remarkable, and has kind of a woodsy, private feel. A true Nevis feel! The service and food quality were excellent. Importantly, the owner was present and actively greeting guests, which I understand is an everyday occurrence. To me that is a great sign of accountability for a memorable evening!
