A Lounge Experience - good & bad
We stayed at The Leela Palace New Delhi for just one night on our way back from Thailand to LHR. Due to such a short stay - we arrived at 3pm and left at 6am - we decided to book a room with 'Royal Club Lounge' access. The screaming child who 'welcomed' us initially was, as you can imagine, not what we expected. We have no problem with children in such spaces and also understand that 'children are children', however the constant screaming (that we could hear from our bedroom) was not acceptable and staff - although indeed it is very difficult and needs to be handled diplomatically - should have stepped in and addressed the issue with the parent/carers involved. Moving on, the lounge itself feels very 'old school' in terms of what is considered 'high end' and luxurious. The food during high tea and canapes following was fine, although there seemed to be a constant hunt for the basics such as plates and cutlery. That said, the beverage selection during 'cocktails' was superb and we were very happy with the selection of sparking, wines and cocktails. All staff in the lounge were very polite, however there must be a special mention to Mr Chirag. We really hope that F&B management recognise the talent and knowledge that they have in this particular staff member - his understanding and passion for wine is superb. We really enjoyed talking wine (including those from India) with him and sharing our tasting notes. He is a huge asset to the hotel.
