Our stay started with a problem at the front desk when both my wife and I misheard the registration person say the upgrade to a suite was $18 (it was really $80), so, when we discovered this, they moved us to the standard room. In my opinion, it was a better room. The suite had a view of a wall and the standard room had a great view of Riyal street. They were very accommodating and the bed was very comfortable. My wife enjoyed the Carosel bar in the lobby. They gave us two free drink tickets when we checked in. The hotel is beautiful and even with all the craziness occurring on the street below, you will never hear a thing when the lights go out. A great place to stagger back to after a night out in the French Quarter.

You literally have to pay for EVERY service provided, except incredibly basic internet service. You get 2 free bottles of water upon check-in with their name on it, but don't ask the front desk for more - - you must request it from room service at $3.65 per 12 oz bottle, and you pay a $2.25 fee per person, as well as 21% gratuity and 11% tax rate on that luxury of bottled water. We were able to go to Walgreens across the street before it closed, buy 4 1-liter bottles of SmartWater and hand lotion for less than the cost of 2 bottles being brought up to the room. It didn't help that front desk staff denied that you could even get water for your room except at check-in until we pressed them about the sign in each room's refrigerator. Because we were guests in the hotel, we were encouraged to take our drinks to our room from the hotel bar, but the glassware was left in the room for 2 days by housekeeping. When we asked the front desk about it, we were greeted with a snarky remark about how we could just leave the dirty barware on the concierge's desk and "someone would get it later." At a luxury price (especially when clients extend their stay by a night after their first day), you can afford to treat your clients a little more politely. That said, the bar is worthwhile with an amazing drink list and beautiful carousel design. Restaurant was equally impressive. But the front desk staff needs a lesson in manners, which is really sad to say about a hotel in a tourist-driven Southern town.

I recently spent 7 nights at Hotel Monteleone while visiting NOLA for a conference. I didn't want to stay at the conference centre because I wanted to be in the French Quarter and this was the perfect location. It's a stunning hotel, I got a massage at the spa and it was fantastic. The pool is small but lovely. Room service was always fast and of high quality. OF course the highlight of the hotel is the Carousel Bar - it's a real tourist attraction but it doesn't take long to secure a seat if you have the time and patience. Definitely worth a spin the bar tenders are brilliant! Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I booked this hotel months ago for a wedding I'm attending this weekend as it was one of the "wedding hotels". I am an iPrefer member and it clearly states on my profile that I prefer a higher floor room, away from the elevators. My room is on the 3rd floor and although not too close to the elevators my window faces a brick wall and half of the glass is opaque so there is virtually no natural light. I asked twice about the room and the possibility of moving to no avail. I would not recommend this hotel as there are a lot of great ones in this city!
