Reviews for The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans

Great Hotel in the French Quarter

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Great location, the bed is very comfortable and lots of amenities. Bathrobes and slippers in the room. The room, at least in April was incredibly warm, even when it was 70 degrees outside I had to keep the AC set to 65 degrees to make the room feel comfortable and it was not very hot the week I was there. The restaurant has a beautiful breakfast buffet every morning and there is a Jazz band every weekend. The internal courtyard is so lovely and a great place to sit and enjoy some quiet time. Unfortunately there are many events that book that courtyard and it was closed to guests most of the time I was there. It also would be nice to have an outdoor eating area as the restaurant is very very cold and dark inside. The location is convenient to anything you would want to see and do in the French Quarter all within easy walking distance. I think my main complaint was that it is a little tricky getting in and out of the hotel as it requires two separate elevators. The pool and hot tub area are in need of a major renovation. They are on the first floor and not close to the hotel area, it would be nice if there were amenities in the hotel area because it is a little bit of a deterrent to take such a long walk back from the hot tub. Also the spa steam room and sauna are not available to guests without a charge. The gym facilities however are extensive, three rooms, a full weight room, cardio room with large screen and a room with treadmills and other machines. Overall very nice hotel and the room feels luxurious and high end.

Not impressed and perhaps a bit disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

There is a good bit to unpack here. This was our first stay at this property. We have booked it many times in the past but had to cancel for one reason or another. We visit NOLA a lot. Because of recent events we are visiting even more now. We have our base of hotels that we rotate through. We stay at Ritz-Carlton properties throughout the country. We are Marriott Rewards members. Normally this place would be our go to hotel but it has not been and will not be going forward. This property is extraordinarily expensive comparing same rooms at other local hotels. This Ritz-Carlton usually loses out to that more times than not for us. This time, because of Jazz Fest, everyone else came out to this price point so we decided to try it out. We are natives that moved away almost 20 years ago but visit frequently for family and business. We know where to stay and areas to avoid. That having been stated. The property is already too far up canal than we like in the first place. It is surrounded by smoke shops, trinket stores and blight. We love that it is in the old Maison Blanche building but the immediate area around it on Canal Street is not pleasing to the eye. We actually preferred coming and going via the back entrance on Iberville. The check-in process was friendly but painfully slow. We checked in at 4:15 in the afternoon and was told our room was not ready. Not good. It was made right by switching our room with another room that was ready but this was not a quick process. Once to the room, it was comparable to a number of other Ritz-Carlton properties we have stayed at. We were satisfied with the room during our entire stay. The next morning we called to retrieve our vehicle that we had valeted. It was difficult getting hold of anyone but finally did, relayed the last four digits of my ticket number and was told it would be pulled right up. It took us 20 minutes to arrive at the valet area after calling from our room. We arrive to no vehicle and had to go look for someone to ask for help. One of the valets asked over a radio if anyone was bringing down our vehicle and I am guessing the answer was negative. He asked for our ticket number again to retrieve our vehicle. That took another 20 minutes. We get in our vehicle 40 minutes after initially calling for it. That is unnacceptable. We have never had that happen at the Monteleone, Four Seasons, Windsor Court, Roosevelt or LePavillion. Usually the valet service is the gold standard at the hotel, not here. That same day, we return mid afternoon just to run up and change clothes. I state we will be no more than 30 to 40 minutes maximum before we leave again. The valet states no problem, he will keep it close for you for quick retrieval. We return 35 minutes later to no vehicle and had to wait another 20 minutes for it. Despite what we were told, it was not kept close. However, on check out morning. I made sure to call at least 30 minutes prior, the phone was answered promptly and lo and behold, our vehicle was waiting for us when we got there. The property is nice but we were not wowed by it. We are glad we finally stayed there but doubt we will again. The deciding factor in that is after driving home five hours, I see I was charged an additional amount after checkout. When I called to ask what the charge was for, I was told for use of the honor bar. We took nothing from the honor bar and never do at this property or any other. I was livid and disputed the charge. While it was made right with a credit, I am soured over the exchange. It made me recall having a woman claiming to be staff knocking on my door that morning asking to replenish the honor bar. I was asked for her name but did not pay attention to her name tag. I thought it was odd that she was beating on my door on a Sunday morning asking about that. She had a bag slung over her shoulder and papers that she was marking things off. I told her too that we took nothing from that bar. In the end, I don't think the service here matched the price point. I used to think I was missing out by not staying here. That was foolish, I was missing nothing. There is better service and experience at other local hotels. I was hoping to come away from this stay with a lot better review but this property could learn a lot form their in town competition.

Club Lounge is Amazing!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Impeccable personnel in the club lounge! The best part of our New Orleans trip was going back to the club lounge to hang out after a long day of fun. We can see how some people don’t bother to go out for meals as all meals are available at the Lounge and the food was excellent. Adrione and staff were wonderful. Interactive and inquisitive and attentive! Rooms were good. Very loud street noise on Canal side. Would definitely return.

Gorgeous with good amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The club rooms at the Ritz are frankly gorgeous. This hotel is a much higher quality than a lot of the things you see in New Orleans, even those traditionally rated highly for experience in the Quarter like the Sonesta or the Monteleone. It has had a facelift and things are new also retaining a lot of the same vibe and color and rich hues as the city should. We also really loved the amenities on the club floor. There was food, bubbles, papers, games, books… You could’ve just hung out there. But since it was New Orleans, there was a lot to do outside the hotel, and it was easy to get to because the hotel is close to the Quarter and the warehouse district. The red beans and rice in the M bistro are delicious. Jazz residency W-Sa too. Only complaint is that the pool could be bigger. Shout out to Russell, an experienced and easygoing waiter on the club floor for helping us with food and ideas. I would definitely stay here again if I went to New Orleans.

A great stay in a world class hotel…

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

One of the nicest rooms we’ve ever enjoyed. It was a standard room, but on a high floor with a view of the Mississippi. Our room was very quiet, and I would recommend staying away from rooms on Canal St., because of the noise. The room layout was perfect, and the bathroom was great. Room service was amazing, and we really appreciated the complimentary anniversary champagne. Service at this hotel is exceptional.
