Even though you’re blocks from the Museum of Modern Art and scores of top-notch restaurants, Chambers makes a convincing argument for staying in. There are more than 500 works of art scattered throughout the public spaces and the guestrooms by luminaries including Bob and Roberta Smith, Sheila Pepe and John Newsom. The rooms themselves are modern and loft-like, reminiscent of a real New York apartment, only with affable service (nightly turndown with chocolates and bottled water, anyone?) Downstairs, Má Pêche, a member of culinary innovator David Chang’s collection of hotspots, serves memorable French-Vietnamese fare.
