Reviews for The High Line Hotel

Very disappointing experience.

I was very surprised ( and not in a good way) by my stay at this hotel. For a room that cost over $600 a night, the amenities were very stingy. One towel per person. The floor of the bedroom was dusty. The bathroom had an old single paned glass window that did nothing to block out the noise. So were heard the people partying on the street below and could smell cigarette smoke drifting up. The room faced 10th ave, and we could hear the trucks and honking horns. And significantly, the room was hot. We couldn't adjust the HVAC system to cool it at all. It blew warm air all night and the system was noisy! A complimentary cup of coffee would have been nice for a room that cost as much as this one did. I would never recommend this hotel

beautiful room but dirty

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My room was large and had a beautiful view facing the courtyard, but there are serious issues with this hotel that need to be resolved: First, the room was not clean. The floor was dusty, and included: cracker crumbs, an old french fry (!), pumpkin seeds, someone else's hair, etc. Whoever cleans the rooms does the bare minimum, doesn't sweep or vacuum. The windows were so dirty on the outside that I could not see out of them without opening them. it's basic building maintenance in NYC to have windows cleaned. There are only bath towels in the bathroom, no hand towels, no wash cloths. There is no coffee maker in room; you have get dressed, go down stairs, pay 6 dollars for a single cup of coffee. Finally, no AC and it was 80 degrees in New York while I was there. They said they had not turned on their AC system yet, for the season. But in certain ways I will say it's a spacious pleasant room and if they fixed these things I'd give this hotel four or even five stars for the view and the uniqueness.

Overpriced and tired.

From the outside this hotel looks majestic, inside though, is another story, it is old, tired, worn and dirty with the worst lifts ever and if you're lucky on your 10th swipe of your key card it might move. For the price of this hotel, you'd expect more than a dusty room, a bathroom with grotty grouting, at the very least you'd expect to get slippers and a robe..nope. The rug in my room was tatty and threadbare, there were holes in my mismatched bed sheets!! Not even a welcome bottle of tap water, no glasses, mugs, coffee/tea, they at least brought up a kettle when I asked though. The fact that I had to go the store to buy everything to make my stay more comfortable was so disappointing. Sadly, the only positive was the location.

Very disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I've stayed here several times, back when it was called The Desmond Tutu to last week. It's sad to watch a property run down - elements that could be charming become repulsive. There are too many factors for the one star rating to list - here are just a few: dirty bathroom floor; one bath towel each, no hand towel, wash cloth or bath mat; dirty yellowed white gauzy curtains; the door to the room can only be closed by slamming it ; broken furniture; mismatched bed sheets; nonsensical room pricing (smaller rooms cost more); $4.50 coffee; no lobby or reception desk. It feels like no one is in charge.

Coffee and a washcloth, please!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My daughter and I were very comfortable at this hotel during a weekend visit to NYC. However, it was a surprise to find that the hotel "lobby" is primarily occupied by a third-party commercial coffee/cocktail bar and its neighborhood customers, with no complimentary coffee or drinks offered to the hotel guests. At least a complimentary morning cup of coffee with one's hotel key or a voucher, and possibly even an afternoon/evening glass of wine, would have made the whole arrangement less off-putting for hotel guests. Barring that, put coffee-making facilities in the guest rooms (there were none). Also, I have come to expect, especially at a 4-star hotel, a washcloth along with a bath towel and a hand towel for each guest, but in our room there were no wash cloths and only one hand towel for two people. Otherwise we very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
