Reviews for Thompson Central Park New York

A wonderful girls' weekend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

My mom and I stayed at this hotel for a girls' weekend - her first time in New York in over 40 years and her first overnight stay! We absolutely loved the Thompson. We were so impressed by the size of the room, the comfortable beds, the Nespresso in the room, the generous closet space, and how quiet the room was at night (12th floor). The staff were all very nice and helpful, even the morning we were checking out we had two different people ask if we needed more towels or water bottles. I noticed some other reviews have complained about the view, but unless you are paying for an upgraded view, it's New York and a view of another building and/or the street below is standard. That didn't bother us. I will be back!

Not a 4 star experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I’m not typically one to write bad reviews, but I was surprised by the poor quality of our stay here this weekend. It was not a 4 star experience and seriously not worth the prices they’re charging here. My issues: They ask when you check in what your preferred cleaning time is, morning or afternoon. We selected afternoon, but then they still showed up each day at 8 am to clean, disturbing our sleep. Why even ask if you aren’t going to honor the preferences selected. The room did not have any of the nicer automated fixtures that most hotels have these days. For lighting, our room was very dark and each light has to be turned on individually. There is no master light in the room. The blinds are pull strings instead of automated. This made the room feel cheap. The toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, bodywash) are full size bottles that are obviously shared between guests. They are not secured in any way and could very easily have been tampered with by a previous guest, so we were weary to use these. The cleaning service seemed rushed - we had some towels that were very obviously not cleaned properly, extra bed linens left lying around our room, that sort of thing. The toilet is incredibly loud - if you’re sleeping, flushing the toilet will definitely wake up the rest of the room. The toilet paper is also SO SO thin, the thinnest I have ever used personally, even more so than public bathrooms. The towels are also fairly small and not good quality, very thin as well. Not what I would expect from a nice hotel. To top it off, our view in our room was of another hotel directly across the way, where others could see into our room very easily, so not great for privacy. I wouldn’t recommend a stay here.

Must Stay at the Hyatt Thompson-NYC

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The Hyatt Thompson in Manhattan exceeded my expectations from arrival to departure. The staff in all of the departments were so helpful and friendly. The accommodations were clean and quite comfortable. The Thompson will be my "go to" hotel for any future trips. Plus the location is perfect, close to shopping, Central Park and museums and great restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

Expected More from the Upgrade

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

My wife and I were excited to see our daughter perform at Carnegie Hall so we chose this hotel because it was very close by. Since we were only going to spend one night, we decided to treat ourselves to a higher level room for $150 since it would give us a view of Central Park. What we got was a view or more buildings and a sliver of Central Park.

Great service, but hard uncomfortable beds, and outrageously expensive restaurant prices

Great service, but hard uncomfortable beds, and outrageously expensive restaurant food. Was excited to stay here as the location is ideal for Midtown meetings, but won’t be coming back.
