The Michelangelo is in a Perfect location , has great service, and we had a big corner room with awesome views. We could walk to almost everything..Wish they had coffee makers in room and free breakfast but other than that it is a great choice

So I travel to NYC a few times a year and at least once with a good friend(s) for a girls long weekend. I try to visit different hotels (although I've gone to the midtown Andaz more than once because of good experiences- but I digress because this review is about the Michelangelo). I did some research and the Michelangelo was highly rated by both Trip Advisor and Condé Nast. So it helped with the decision. Upon arrival there were issues with my upgrade (prior guest caused the room to need extra work) but the manager met us in the lobby and explained and I wouldn't be charged for it. It was a disappointment because it was a high floor and would've helped with the noise but couldn't be helped by the hotel and I appreciate how it was communicated. That was Thursday afternoon- I don't recall his name. The room and hotel were nice. It was stately and opulent. It was also historic. As such there aren't the modern things that you'll get in the newer and more renovated hotels. But that also brings positives. It is big....we had a 2 bed studio - very spacious with a great bathroom and vanity area.....2 women- we had bags for days and it was great. The heavy curtains helped with street noise and lights. Great location- walking distance to many things - diners and theaters- and good and helpful staff rounded out the pros. There were a few cons....there are a few housekeeping items that could use better attention- dust and the carpets need replacing or deep cleaning. Room service is not 24/7- AM for Breakfast and PM until 11:30 for dinner, but once you know that and because of the city that's something to which one can easily adapt. Also the duvet was stained when we arrived but replaced (by one with a burn, but clean) and the extra security latch on the door did not work. But speaking of security, Michelangelo is "on point." We ordered Door Dash late a couple of nights post theatre and they were not getting upstairs without a security escort. I loved it! I stand by my 4 star rating. There were more pros than cons and I think it's a solid 4 star hotel. I would recommend staying knowing that it has good sized rooms (my one was great), great location and good staff.

We have stayed at the michelangelo many times in the past. On this trip they were not up to their usual standards. Hopefully it will improve again. The guest rooms were large and comfortable as advertised.

I stay at the Michelangelo whenever possible on trip to NYC. The service is always top notch. The people at the front desk are lovely and appropriate. This trip our room attendant was Norsy and she made sure that our room was cared for each day right down to the littlest details She is so pleasant and uplifting, too! Kudos to the Michelangelo for having Norsy on their staff and I hope realizing what a gem and hard worker that they have in her. There was a glitch on the first day and the manager and engineering crew were right on it. I am so pleased with the service here and will continue to return. Great well-trained staff, lovely rooms, and an overall aim to treat guests properly Till next time! (which won't be too far off as I will be back in the fall!)

The location of this hotel speaks for itself; the lobby is attractive, the rooms clean, the bathrooms particularly comfortable with their generous bathtubs. Having been a regular visitor to this hotel for many years, though, I miss the old Michelangelo's attention to the needs of busy people in the city. The self-service continental breakfast, once included in the price of the room, was a great convenience that I miss. The "facilities fee" (renamed "residence fee" in more recent notices) now tacked onto each bill has taken its place! This appeared only in the small print of my original reservation, and I'm glad I read it before arriving at the hotel so that I could digest this unpleasant surprise in private. If not warned when making the reservation, be aware of this additional charge. (Wouldn't it make sense to include that fee in the room charge, since it is not optional?) Each room used to have a card listing services available from housekeeping, and upon arrival one was offered a choice of newspapers, to be left outside the door of the room. Now one needs to make special requests to receive the turn-down service or a newspaper. Be sure to ask for these if you want them, they are still available, even if not advertised! I hope these tips help visitors to this hotel make the most of its services, even as it shifts its attention away from the comfort of guests. Except for the front desk, the service at the hotel is still excellent. Those in charge should take an example from the housekeeping staff and doormen!
