Nice boutique hotel next to Central Park on upper east side. Walk to Madison Avenue shopping, Apple store, and restaurants. The hotel is next to the off leash area of the dog park (during specific hours) which is fun to check out.

We arrived early in the day, having had to take an early morning flight. I had emailed the hotel the day before that we'd be arriving early and said we'd like to drop off our bags so we could head out for our one-day trip to NYC. I was delighted and surprised to be told on our 10 am arrival that our room was ready! This, as I discovered later, complimentary upgrade, was given to us without a mention on their part. Normally, there is a charge for early arrival, and even then, the arrival time is noon! (Normal check-in time is a standard 3pm.) I asked the receptionist as we checked out whether there was a connection between my email and the early check-in. She looked at my account and said, yes, that we were given this as a comp. I was so impressed with that level of discrete and generous customer service. The hotel is top-notch in all ways that matter to me. The location is fabulous... so much quieter than our usual mid-town hotels and close to the museums that were the focus of our visit this time. I clearly made the right choice! Our room was large and had lots of natural light, another anomaly for New York. All of the furnishings and appointments were of high quality and attractive. We had dinner and breakfast at Café Boulud. The food was superior and worth the $$$, though we certainly couldn't make a habit of it! Speaking of habits, it was so clear that many of the hotel's guests and restaurant guests were repeaters, well-known to the staff. That says a lot to me about The Surrey. And though this was our first visit, and it was only for one night, the staff were equally friendly to us. I would love to be able to stay at the Surrey again and often!

I was visiting for a family emergency and had a pleasant stay due to the circumstances. The staff members were so helpful and arranged for a babysitter so that I could spend time with my family member in the hospital. The food at Cafe Boulud was AMAZING!!!

In the last four years, The Surrey has become "my home in NYC. The hospitality, room comfort, amazing breakfast and joyful Pleiades drinks always create the desire to come back after I leave. This time around, I visited with my entire family and the experience was equally seamless for all of us.

This hotel is our favorite place to stay on the Upper East Side. The room we stayed in this time seemed a little "tired" and we were surprised and a little disappointed by this. We will look forward to staying here again though and hope the issues I chatted to the Reception staff about have been rectified.
