This was our 4th or 5th time staying at the Surrey because we love the Upper Eastside location and the staff are always friendly and attentive. This particular trip, though, was a less than optimal experience for the price point. Even though we planned our drive into NY to coincide with the official check-in time, my family had to wait 45 minutes to get into the room. This was after a 4.5 hour drive. The delay forced us to alter our evening plans. I normally rate the hotel excellent, but the experience took a minute to get over. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The hotel has an excellent, energetic bar and the restaurant is Cafe Boulud which is one of the finer dining establishments in the city.

Classy, timeless, elegant hotel in a wonderful Upper East Side location, just minutes from Central Park, Museum Mile and the designer boutiques of Madison Avenue. A pleasant 15 mins walk from the Fifth Avenue shops allows you to leave behind the Midtown bustle. Large, quiet, comfortable room, loved the tiled Art Deco bathroom. Enjoyed the choice and quality at breakfast. Efficient, helpful service from all staff. Bar Pleiades is great for evening cocktails and people watching. Some minor niggles; bedroom windows are dirty, room cleaning was not the best, paintwork and carpets are looking a bit tired in places. Shame the rooftop bar isn't open until May. Good value for money.

Having stayed in a Relais & Chateaux - Hotel Wailea in Maui on our first left of the trip - this hotel shouldn't be mentioned in the same class. Fantastically comfy bed however a hotel in need of a face lift. There's authentic classic NYC and then there is tired. My only other stay in Manhattan was the Ritz Carton - which is superior in every way especially the service from the staff. The front of house and door staff were unfriendly, rude and unhelpful. On check out we weren't asked how our stay was "You have no charges on your room your good to go". I walked towards the door one evening the doorman look at me and continued his conversation with another member of staff. On leaving we had to put our own cases into the uber with the help of our driver, same doorman conveniently comes out as we are done and asks if we need help. Made to feel really uncomfortable as it would seam this hotel doesn't caters to 30 something's. Really bitter pill to swallow when it was $600 a night and on the final league of our honeymoon. Very disappointed really wished we went to the Standard Hotel instead! Based on our experience you should avoid this place - look at the number of 3 star and less. Pedro Dias you have a hell of a job on your hands!

We have been staying at The Surrey since before the renovations. We love the location away from the hustle and bustle of 5th avenue. We enjoy walking in the park which is at the end of the street. Room service is great and so is the spa. Most of all, we love the staff. They are very professional amd extremely friendly!

The perfect hotel for discriminating travelers wanting quiet elegance and flawless service. Located close enough to places people staying in hotels of this caliber want, and far enough from the noise and mobs of less "out of the way" hotels.
