In terms of positives: Good location. Comfy bed. In terms of negatives: windows were dirty and poorly painted. Furniture was broken. Multiple electrical sockets were dangerous and broken. No hot water for one evening. I was told the manager would be informed - but no one followed up.

We had an amazing trip to NYC. It was the first time our 4 daughters (all middle and high school ages) had been to the city. The James was a great hotel for us. The suite wasn't huge (not sure that many hotel rooms in NYC are), but it was just fine for us. We had 2 sleep on the pullout couch and that worked fine for us. The pullout bed wasn't the best, but my girls made it work. Having the table and seating area was super helpful as was having 2 bathrooms. My girls really appreciated the lighting in the bathrooms. The room was clean and we really appreciated the daily maid service . Another great thing about the James was the location. It's not a far walk from Times Square and all the action there if you want to walk, but it's also just a couple blocks from a subway stop which made getting farther up and downtown super easy. There are some great coffee shops close by as well as some really good restaurants away from Times Square and the more touristy areas. It's also across the street from a Whole Foods which was nice for us to get snacks to have in the room. The few things that weren't stellar were the morning coffee (it was fine, but we like stronger coffee so for us it was like bean water), the bed in the pullout couch was a little broken (although we made it work), and the queen beds were more firm than we like them (although that's a personal preference and my husband actually enjoyed that). Overall, The James was great, especially for the price and I would gladly stay here again.

We arrived to a warm welcome and our room ready. Very comfortable room. Great guest area and wine hour is a nice touch. The hotel felt boutique and the location worked well, with bars and restaurants locally.
