What kind of $500/night hotel charges you for in room coffee without even telling you? That was an incredibly tacky surprise at check out. The noise is real, but so is the inconvenience of even entering or leaving the hotel. It’s essentially a night club around the clock from the lobby to the rooftop and the elevators are full of predatory men telling you when and where you should meet them, which, if you’re here for that (and many seemed to be) good on you, but I didn’t book this thinking it was a hook up hotel. For the price I was more than a little let down by the beds, the view, the noise, the accessibility (it’s completely engulfed by construction) and the undesirable nature of the amenities. We checked out after our second night for another nearby hotel that I’ll never stray from again. For all the “hipster” feel of the Gansevoort it was less hipster and more bourgoise pig.

The GOOD: most STAFF are kind and welcoming, especially the ladies at the front desk. The rooftop pool is legit with great views and it is connected to the bar/club on the rooftop, allowing for a super fun day of relaxing poolside. The ROOM we stayed in was the Manhattan Suite, which offered a decent sized bedroom, an incredible master bathroom sink and tub area, a shower with steam; down the hallway was a half bathroom and the living room. The WELCOME KIT was very nice and included wine, two free coupons for drinks at the rooftop, and some discounts at the spa. BATHROOM AMENITIES were l'Occitane and quite luxurious, especially with the plush robes. The BAD: The steam shower had a door that didn't keep the water inside, so prepare to place towels all over your bathroom floor so you don't slip on the tile. Although these are Manhattan facing, a significant portion of your view will be blocked by opposing buildings. And although the Gansevoort website advertised "The Manhattan Suite also includes: step-out balcony facing Manhattan", after check-in we discovered that the doors had been bolted shut and a sign indicated we were not able to use the balcony. Additionally, the way the curtains are set-up, half the window is covered even when you pull back the curtains, obstructing your view further. The UGLY: First - the BED slumped/sank into the middle, making for an uncomfortable sleep. Time to update the beds!! And second, I forgot my phone charger plugged next to the bed. I called immediately, was transferred to lost and found in security who mentioned it had not been turned in, but to call back the next day. I called back, hadn't been turned in. I spoke with front desk to ask if somebody could please check the room for it, because when you pay for a "luxurious" hotel, you expect your property to be returned. I was assured by a front desk agent who was not very nice that "rooms are inspected by housekeeping daily so there is no way it got missed." He finally agreed to take my number down, but nobody has called me back. To me that means one of two things: either they aren't actually inspecting the rooms daily between guests OR my charger was stolen. Ultimately, it's just a stupid charger, but for a "luxurious" property like this one and at the cost, to be treated like this left a poor impression. OVERALL: The experience for the price paid was not there. In NYC there are WAY too many incredible hotel properties that deliver on the same "good" aspects of this hotel to tolerate a sagging bed, bolted balconies, and unreturned lost property. Maybe my expectations are too high, but when paying luxury prices, I expect a first-class stay, and the Gansevoort Meatpacking didn't come close to delivering.

Another terrific stay at the Gansevoort Meatpacking. The hotel and the entire staff are always genuinely caring and helpful. This hotel is a great mix of popular "to be seen" hotspot that does not interfere with a very pleasant boutique hotel experience. I always stay here and after asking, was impressed to find that the majority of the staff have been there over 10years. Nice to see the familiar faces each visit. Highly recommended, Al E. Check was pleasant- Matt was so welcoming and when I mentioned I was in town for a girls night with my friends he comped our first cocktails. Space is chic and trendy. The rooftop was under construction but the staff was so nice to escort my friends and I to the pool to take pics and make sure we were safe around the construction. The hotel is a must for a friendly, trendy New York experience.

Just stayed at the hotel, on the 11th floor. The renovation noises coming from the renovation are loud and jarring. When checking out, I mentioned how insanely loud the noise is, and they very kindly just said, ...sorry. The only way this hotel should operate is with a WARNING to guests they will deal with loud noises. Or, they should greatly lower the prices until it is over, I would avoid, if possible.
