If you are looking for a cool hotel in lower west side of Manhattan, I would recommend the Gansevoort. I have stayed here multiple times over the past 5 years. Great vibe, walking distance to everything and great roof top pool and bar.

To start with, this hotel was chosen for the area it was in and it delivered a great vibrant and hip area. The hotel itself looks swish but the service is disappointing and fake. The room is filled with merchandise to buy. The price of water is a total joke and the coffee capsules insulting. It was our second hotel on our stay in NYC and felt a little tacky and money grabbing. The bar upstairs has a pool area but during the day, it just looks sad and a little unloved as a space. The bar downstairs is heaving and the drink prices don't warrant be crammed in a small place, considering there are other places you could hang out nearby!

Lovely hotel - very cool vibe and scene. We definitely felt like we were not cool enough to be there HOWEVER the staff was LOVELY and would never have made us feel that way. Also loved that our mini balcony had a door that opened to let the fresh May air in.

The stay was wonderful. Such a hotel in the heart of NYC seems really nice. Good rooms, good room service, and nice staff. They offer you umbrellas too! Nice food at the chester restaurant. It was a really good stay.

This hotel has a modern and "party" reputation. With that being said, the rooms are very standard, and would compare more to a standard Marriott than a Ritz Carleton (and we were paying closer to the Ritz Carleton - $550 a night). The hotel has an average bathroom, little space, and no fridge. Exactly a year prior I stayed in the Trump Soho hotel and paid the same price and it was a WAY better room - I mean I would give this room a five star. I like to stay in a new place every time I go to NYC but I would not recommend this one for the PRICE. If you can get it for under $300 a night that I would say sure, but don't let them scam you. My boyfriend called room service for a bottle of champagne and their only option was around $150. When we stay at other luxury hotels they always have a $40 to $60 option, and they offer a prosecco or other sparkling wine. The rooftop pool is nice, but full of children at every hour. It's confusing - a bar with party music but kids (infants to 10 year olds) everywhere... not really sure what's going on. Both my boyfriend and I have young siblings so it's not that we don't like it, it's just it does not fit the ambiance. Definitely does not live up to the "party" reputation. The gym was very small - go early in the morning. Overall, don't pay over $300, it's just not worth it.
