The James treats you well. I stay at the James about every other month. During my most recent stay Rebecca at the front remembered me by name when I checked in. The next evening I ran into Julio the Room Service manager. I had not seen him in over a month and he also remembered me by name. Very impressive service! Thanks for making me feel appreciated.

This hotel was everything we hoped for... it's got a true NYC loft vibe and the bathroom was super cool... Room service for dinner was amazing, you have to try... And the restaurant down stairs was just as great. We would stay here again even though they had a mix up and charged us for our stay when checking out even though it was pre paid. This left us short $3000 Australia for the rest of our trip. Just make sure your clear when you have pre paid from Australia so this doesn't happen to you.

I booked this hotel at last minute. I checked into a room that was shabby by any standard, much less the standards of a top hotel. There were stains on the chair, the table and the floor. The windows were streaked with fingerprints. The u-bolt looked as though someone had tried to force their way into the room. The smoke detector was missing, ripped out of its housing. The toilet paper holder fell out of its place in the wall. I called room service once -- at around 8 p.m. -- and was told they were not taking orders because they were "walking the floor"? Front desk said they would call back when restaurant opened. They did not. I called three times before someone finally answered. None of these things individually is terrible. But taken together, they suggest a hotel in a slump in terms of maintenance, service and attitude.

We had a great stay, the room was small but modern and cozy and bathroom was very sleek. This is a Fab location in SoHo which just can't be beat! Interesting building, friendly staff, and wine and cheese in the lobby each afternoon. Looking forward to going back this summer as there is a several outdoor areas including rooftop bar with pool and several garden bars and restaurants.

I guess I'm in the minority here. My stay at The James hotel was a bit unpleasant. My main complaints are cleanliness and maintenance. What happened? Well other than my room being infested with spiders (I saw 3 large ones on separate occasions) and my shower tile being moldy/rusty/dirty, I also had the pleasantly of my smoke detector battery begin to beep low battery at 3am. This is where things took a poor turn. It wasn't your normal beeping but a loud continuous beep every 30 seconds with an announcement that the battery was low. Ok, bad luck. But then I had to call Down to the front desk twice to finally get the maintenance man to come up and replace the battery. The lack of attention to my serious complaint made me angry. Other than that it's in a decent location and the rooms are ok. Probably won't go back with all the options in Manhattan
