Wonderful Experience and Outstanding Service and Staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

We stayed for 5 nights and worried about the reviews we have seen describing the renovations - Yes it takes a little time to work out how to enter and exit hotel but that was minor and once we know our way there was no problem. The great thing was the same staff were still there (our sixth visit) with the same smiles and outstanding service. We had breakfast on 20th floor and food was excellent and service outstanding- thanks to Yesenia, Diana, Debbie, Maria, Cesar, Ridwan, Ziggy, TJ, Jonas, Javier and John in restaurant - Concierge Violetta was excellent - Front Desk Orville, Lisa, Trang, Julissa thank you for excellent service - we did use room service and food was excellent, fresh and hot and thank you Kathlyn who took order and John and Jean who delivered- Chamber maids Elna and Ruth thank you and Lenny the outside Porter thank you. We hope to be back again and see the same wonderful staff. The location is good and we could walk to Times Square to purchase theatre tickets and it is a quick cab ride to Lincoln Centre to see the opera. Great shops on 5th Avenue and easy walk to Central Park.

A New York Classic

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

It’s simply the best in NYC! We love the classics and this is definitely the Grande Dame of New York. The service is impeccable and the location is central to shopping, theatre and Central Park. Looking forward to seeing the newly renewed lobby, bar and restaurant next trip!

Reassuringly expensive😂

Had a great few nights, first time here and couldn’t really fault it, the lounge bar was as expected, ridiculously expensive but perfect. Will be back.

No breakfast for you!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This formerly grand hotel is now a construction site (a fact that they don't disclose when you reserve). It was hard to figure out where to enter. After I finally found the front desk, check-in, and check-out service was slow. As others have mentioned, they fail to honor a full breakfast benefit for "bonvoy" elite members. That alone sends a message about what sort of hotel this is -- one that fails to deliver value or a quality experience. I won't stay there again.

Major disappointment; Marriott Plat and Titanium members avoid

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This property is poor -- I would say laughably poor. But given what I paid for it, I find it hard to laugh. Getting to your room in this hotel requires you to navigate a maze that involves multiple elevators. The check-in desk attendant told me the reward for dealing with that nuisance was that, as a "titanium" member, I was entitled to a continental breakfast (previously, this was an actual breakfast). Though it comprised only a few tiny pieces of fruit and a day-old croissant, the tip alone for the "continental" breakfast was more than you would pay for an entire breakfast elsewhere. I would say the flies (of which there were several) enjoyed it however. I would not have bothered, except it's the only way to get coffee, because it's not provided in the rooms. Instead of a coffee maker, you get an entire cabinet and an entire refrigerator full of stuff they want to sell to you. Just like a really tacky motel. No space for a coffee maker or any other complimentary convenience. One of the worst features of the hotel is the HVAC system. Attempting to adjust the settings on the cryptic thermostat proved futile. The only two options seemed to be "Arctic gale" or "Saharan blast," both accompanied by a cacophony that made peaceful slumber a fantastical concept. I half expected to wake up either as a popsicle or a dried apricot, depending on the setting. Forget white noise machines—this was more of a grey noise torture device. I never did figure out how to turn the damn thing down -- or off My room had a dreary view of a brick wall and some equipment. Perhaps it was a blessing that the windows were so filthy, that I couldn't see it that well. This is yet another once-storied property destroyed by Marriott. Really a shame.
