This hotel, which is on the National Historic register, is in need of a face lift. The room had a slightly musty smell and the carpeting was overdue to be replaced. The lobby area is warm and inviting while the rooms are reminiscent of something seem more in a two star hotel. While the staff is very friendly, we didn't like the Valet parking only option, which was just an annoyance. Compared to other places we have stayed in Newport, we are puzzled as to how this one got its high reviews. We will be back to Newport, but not to the Hotel Viking!

This was our first visit to The Viking and we are glad to have stayed there. From the first greetings of the doormen, to the Desk Clerk staff we knew we were at a well-run hotel. Every staff person had a smile, greeted us nicely, and took extra time to give us insight into the areas to visit and to restaurants that fit our preferences. Rooms were well appointed and comfortable. Be sure to try the rooftop Bar in the afternoon or early evening; great views from the top. The location of The Viking is ideal because it is a convenient walk to the famous "Cliff Walk" and to the mansions; don't miss these. Also within easy walking distance are a large number of Restaurants and Bars. The Thames Street area is lively all day into the evening and you can find a variety of places to eat - both upper cost and less expensive; all were good. Overall, an enjoyable stay.

Newport is full of interesting and exciting events. A great place to stay is the Viking Hotel, it's grand style is reminiscent of Newports Mansions with the convinces of today. The staff was delightful and very attentive to all our needs. The valet parking was very welcome at the end of a busy day. If you want a view, the rooftop lounge is the place to relax and have a cocktail.

My boyfriend and I had a great time here. The whole staff was friendly and attentive. It was nice to be able to leave the car here all weekend and just use uber to get around. The hotel is also pretty centrally located to all the bars/shopping in Newport so it was easy to walk around too. All the amenities like the pool/lobby bar/gym were clean and nice to relax in. Our room was decent but we definitely had what was probably the smallest room in the hotel. I should not have booked the reservation off of a corporate discount website, I guess that's what I get. Other than that we really enjoyed our time there. It was still really cool out when we went in early May so the rooftop bar was still too cold to hang out at even though it was open. In the warmer months its probably really cool

Choosing the Viking Hotel is a great way to enjoy your stay at Newport RI. Friendly, courteous, helpful staff make your stay soo enjoyable. A great location, easy to get to the Tennis Hall Of Fame and all those beautiful mansions, plus all the great restaurants. Off season, is the best time to visit, nice weather, less crowds, no parking fees by the cliff walk.
