I recently stayed for a weekend getaway and it was wonderful! The lobby is stunning and the front desk staff was extremely helpful. On this particular night they had live music in the hotel lounge, an outdoor ice bar, an ice cream social and s’mores by the fire pit on the patio. Our room was very nice. The only two “complaints” I have are the size of the bathroom and the lack of a mini fridge or freezer. We had brought back ice cream after dinner downtown only to realize there was no mini fridge. The bathroom situation was just a little much; getting in and out of the shower you were basically right on top of the sink. Not to say the bathroom had to be extremely large, but there definitely could’ve been a little more space just for ease of movement. Other than that, it really was a great hotel and I would definitely return!

The friendliest staff and great location! Definitely make time to use the pool and hot tube. The bartender will even remember your name. Visit the Comedy Bit Players on Equality Drive and the art museum right down the street because they are a great value.

The hotel was good not awesome! The lobby was classically decorated and the front desk was nice and helpful. Our room was large the beds were comfortable with nice decor. Valet parking is required but it was only $15. But our stay was overshadowed by a few major issues and a few minor things. 1/ We were charged a resort fee of $20. Looking at the papers we received upon check in we noticed we did not get a welcome drink. We were told there would be live music. We got back to the hotel after diner to find no music. We were told oh sorry we are disappointed too! We also noticed no refund on the fee. They also had s’mores by the fire pit but it was crowded with a large group and no available seats. 2/ We made the reservation to have a spa girls weekend but after booking the hotel we found out there were no times for any spa services after 9am sat for a mani pedi for 1 or after 5pm Sunday for 1. Initially I was told we will call you back. Maybe we can get someone else to work but they called back and said no sorry how about Sunday night! 3/ at 10:30 at night someone was pounding on the side entrance door for over 10 minutes. We called the front desk. They said “we will send someone.” It didn’t stop. We called again. We were told the engineer was on his way. We said Engineer? How about security we do not feel comfortable. 4/ the elevator closest to our room was not working so we had to walk down a long hall. Which was annoying and inconvenient. We were hoping for a nice relaxing stay in a classic historic hotel. There were too many frustrating issues for this level of hotel.

I have visited Newport over the last 30 years and the Viking Hotel has been a family destination over the years. I absolutely love the location, the beauty and history of this hotel. My main disappointment was what was done to the interior of the hotel. The decor is now modern! Why would they ruin the history and beauty of this magnificent hotel!

Our family/friends booked a large number of rooms for the weekend of our daughters wedding, which was held at Rosecliff. I am very glad we stayed at the Viking, and felt like we were well taken care of; the staff is particularly nice and accommodating. We booked a Friday rehearsal dinner and a Sunday post-wedding brunch. Saturday night after the wedding, we "closed the bar". lol. Every food item served all weekend was delicious! yeah, wow! The lobby at dinner time had light live music that was pleasant. My daughter's room/suite, (the bride), had a lovely spiral staircase to the bedroom (think Rapunzel!) and was perfect for all the ladies getting their hair and makeup done. The guys and kids reported that the pool was warm and nice. We all loved the S'mores around the fire pits at night with the house made marshmallows and chocolates!... and hotel provided blankets! In terms of critiques, I had to learn that when calling the hotel to set each event up, you have to speak to the specific person in charge of each area. It was not obvious to me at first, and I experienced frustration, until I learned "who to contact". Then everything worked out great. We would book again in a heartbeat... and are so pleased the Viking played such a wonderful and important role in our very important weekend!
