Couldn't find a better spot to greet the beautiful spring morning than the dining room at the Viking Hotel. Buffet breakfast was included in our room rate. Standard fare-scrambled eggs, meats, home fries, fresh fruits, yogurts and plenty of muffins, bagels as well as french toast. Coffee was served hot and the wait staff was pleasant. The sun was shining and the buds were peeking from the trees. Needless to say that we enjoyed our stay at the Viking. Rooms were clean and up to date. Definitely on the small side but with modern bathrooms and decor. Nice vibe in the lobby and on the porch. Always a lot of people and the hotel was bustling. We used valet parking the first evening but parked on street the other nights and saved $35 a day. Parking rates seem steep in the off season but are probably appropriate in the summer. Great location for walking to stores, restaurants and harbor area. We walked late at night and felt pretty safe. Recommended.

This hotel has been around forever. The rooms are chic old class but lovely. The rooftop cocktail bar is superb.. The location could not be better. Staff are well trained and hospitable.parking is not a oblem and walking to downtown is a very easy 5minutes.

Our stay was great overall, the only things were that the room was a little small and cramped, and the bathroom had no sink counter/vanity, making it extremely difficult for a female to spread out her toiletry items and get ready efficiently! It was decorated beautifully though and aesthetically pleasing as well as cozy, and the pillow-top mattress was heavenly! The mandatory valet service I felt should be changed to whomever prefers it, not mandatory. We were not aware of the additional fee and it really should just be added to the nightly hotel cost so there are no surprises, since it is mandatory anyway. We also were in the courtyard at night relaxing, and upon attempting to go back inside when it started raining, discovered we had been locked out! The concierge came quickly enough when we called though, to let us in. There were a couple of minor issues, like not having a coffeepot in our room, but overall it is a beautiful hotel and I would recommend it. The valet and concierge staff are super professional and really on top of things.

We spent two nights in Newport just before Easter with our two children (ages 7 and 2) and chose the Hotel Viking because it looked great in photos, and being the off season, we got a great price. In general, we were quite satisfied with our stay. PROS: - The management seems to really take care of the grounds and common areas. This hotel might be the first we've stayed at for which the photos really didn't do justice. It's a great building. - It's far enough from the main shopping and tourist areas that there wasn't much traffic outside our main-level windows. But it's not so far away that you need to drive. It's maybe a 5-10 minute walk to the wharfs. - I don't know if this is becoming a common thing, but being able to login to our Netflix account on the room TV was a god-send with a 2-year old in tow. - The room was very clean when we checked in, though two kids changed that in a hurry. Unfortunately, we accidentally left the "do not disturb" sign on the door when we left for our day of sight-seeing, so we can't speak to housekeeping's efforts. - We never heard our neighbors. - The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were a little TOO soft. CONS: - There is a well-stocked mini bar in the room, which is fine. My main problem was that my children have nut allergies, and there were items with nuts in the room. Their allergies aren't so bad that they can't be around those items, but I also know many people who DO have allergies that severe. - Probably because of the mini-bar being in the room, if you follow the signs towards "ice and vending," you will find only ice. - Despite being on the main level, we had to go down about 4 or 5 steps to get to our room. This wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do with a stroller. - There is no on-site self-parking. I noted that valet parking was an amenity, but was unaware that it was the ONLY parking available on site. It was easy enough to make use of, though, and the valet attendants were very friendly and professional. All in all, none of those issues would deter us from staying again, though we might make some specific room requests when making our reservations.

Valet parking. Centrally located. Extremely lively lobby with bar. GORGEOUS, boutique- feel to rooms. Size of room was great. Mini fridge included. Black out shades and wonderful bed made for a lovely night of sleep (I had a 3 month old at the time). Check in was smooth and friendly. We had a wonderful time and would absolutely go back!!
