My wife and I stayed here recently, we had a good time in Newport and the hotel is in a great location to get around. Food was good for lunch and breakfast, plenty of space to sit, deck and bar on roof was a plus to have ( not a clear view of water). We had a few spa treatments, staff and service was great. Given that we expected a really nice place for $800+ a night, our feedback is the suites are not worth it and very outdated, some only have standup showers. The hot tub is barely maintained ,full of grime and not filled properly. This hotel has changed ownership in the last few years and lost value, so there is hope new owner will upgrade but going to be a long road back.

I've had a read-through of recent reviews and recognise every problem during our own three day stay. But, nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves and found staff helpful and understanding. The hotel - which looks elegant from the outside - is, indeed, in a perfect location for both the graceful Bellevue Avenue and the waterfront. But the fundamental problem is that it was built in 1926 and so many things are going wrong. We also suffered air conditioning breakdowns and practically roasted for one night (which was removed from the bill). The bathrooms are small. The storage space in the room is limited. The gloomy decor, away from smarter and brighter public areas, looks from another age. It probably looked splendid back in 1953 when most of the Kennedy family stayed, prior to the wedding of JFK and Jackie in St Mary's Church, a few streets away. We were moved to another suite and admired the efforts to make us comfortable. Short of spending tens of millions on a refit, the problems are insurmountable. And, yes, the prices are high considering the standard that is being offered. But we will remember our time in Newport fondly and the attitude of the staff with warmth.

Visited here from Northern Ireland for two nights and really disappointed. This is not what we would rate as a four star hotel where we live. We had to ask to be moved rooms after first night. Our first room was just terrible. The beds in particular were awful. As soon as one of us rolled over the bed made so much noise. The bed also had a dip in the middle so I woke up with a very sore back! The bottom sheet had multiple holes in it and both pillows had dirty marks on them. The bathroom was so below standard I would expect at any hotel. The paint was peeling off the ceiling and there were expansive damp marks and mound build up all around the shower area. The sink was in a separate room from the toilet and shower so after using this you had to go over the hall to wash your hands! The fridge in the room buzzed all night and the air conditioning was the most outdated I had seen. In fairness to the reception staff there was no argument when we asked to be moved rooms and the second room was definately an improvement. Still not 4 star by any means but better. There was still mould in the bathroom but all the facilities were in one room at least and the shower was decent. This time the bed was clean and more comfortable. The room itself was basic and had the usual overpriced bar items. We didn't eat or drink at the hotel as the prices were so overpriced. We ate breakfast at the Corner Cafe and would highly recommend and a fraction of the price!! Overall I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We were left wishing we had went to a smaller family run hotel or used and air bnb. We payed a small fortune after paying the tax and parking fees.

Very overpriced. Poor service in the restaurant. Bar poorly located. Not within walking distance of main Newport attractions. This is not a resort destination in spite of the hotel billing for this. Would not stay here again.

Disappointed with check in, housekeeping and lack of concierge as we were new to Newport. Dining was good. Overall service was not what we expected at $400 plus per night.Location was excellent, however.
