We stayed in the Hotel Viking for one night on our way from New York to Boston. It is an old, grand hotel just a 5 minute walk from the main area of Newport. Staff were excellent, the hotel had good facilities, including a decent sized indoor swimming pool (albeit the changing rooms were surprisingly dirty) and food (both breakfast and dinner) were good value. Sadly, this isn't a hotel we would stay in again as a family, as the room was very small for 4 and by far the most compact of the 5 hotels we have used on our trip. Also, given this is an older hotel, soundproofing was poor, as we discovered to our detriment when woken up at 5am by the herd of elephants above us! I'd recommend this hotel for couples who like attentive service and a good location in a beautiful town.

This is an old run-down property that claims to be "updated". The lobby tries to be hip but is sterile while the rooms are dark and dingy. There was nothing "sweet" about the $729 a night "suite" we were in. I couldn't sleep from the smell of the overly bleached sheets and towels while the decor was plain sad. Also, the service was unremarkable at best. Only plus was the location.

We stayed in Newport for 24 hrs on a long drive back from Maine to Philadelphia. This hotel was lovely, charming and perfectly situated. It kept our lovely bubble going! Get to the rooftop bar/deck before dark, enjoy one of many fire pits. The buffet breakfast was not great (order off the menu) , but the dining room was very nice. $35 valet parking but good for 24 hrs. We'll stay here again!

The Viking hotel is beautifully. Within close walking distance of the Touro synagogue and the mansions on Bellevue avenue. The staff is extremely accomodating. I love love love the rocking chairs on the porch. Beautiful place

We have waited until 5 pm for our rooms to be ready, and 20 min until they were pleased to lead you in there. Also, my father has one of the worst room with a view on the wall and garbage. Price was really expensive and nothing was included in the room price except the bedroom itself. We had trouble with double levy on fees, they have tried to charge two times for the same service.
