We spent two nights in Newport just before Easter with our two children (ages 7 and 2) and chose the Hotel Viking because it looked great in photos, and being the off season, we got a great price. In general, we were quite satisfied with our stay. PROS: - The management seems to really take care of the grounds and common areas. This hotel might be the first we've stayed at for which the photos really didn't do justice. It's a great building. - It's far enough from the main shopping and tourist areas that there wasn't much traffic outside our main-level windows. But it's not so far away that you need to drive. It's maybe a 5-10 minute walk to the wharfs. - I don't know if this is becoming a common thing, but being able to login to our Netflix account on the room TV was a god-send with a 2-year old in tow. - The room was very clean when we checked in, though two kids changed that in a hurry. Unfortunately, we accidentally left the "do not disturb" sign on the door when we left for our day of sight-seeing, so we can't speak to housekeeping's efforts. - We never heard our neighbors. - The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were a little TOO soft. CONS: - There is a well-stocked mini bar in the room, which is fine. My main problem was that my children have nut allergies, and there were items with nuts in the room. Their allergies aren't so bad that they can't be around those items, but I also know many people who DO have allergies that severe. - Probably because of the mini-bar being in the room, if you follow the signs towards "ice and vending," you will find only ice. - Despite being on the main level, we had to go down about 4 or 5 steps to get to our room. This wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do with a stroller. - There is no on-site self-parking. I noted that valet parking was an amenity, but was unaware that it was the ONLY parking available on site. It was easy enough to make use of, though, and the valet attendants were very friendly and professional. All in all, none of those issues would deter us from staying again, though we might make some specific room requests when making our reservations.

Valet parking. Centrally located. Extremely lively lobby with bar. GORGEOUS, boutique- feel to rooms. Size of room was great. Mini fridge included. Black out shades and wonderful bed made for a lovely night of sleep (I had a 3 month old at the time). Check in was smooth and friendly. We had a wonderful time and would absolutely go back!!

Our room was large. The bathroom was small but quite efficient. I liked the fact that the lotions, shampoo and body wash were attached to the walls so you always had enough. The afternoon lemonade was awesome. The cleaning staff is very thorough. I like the fact that when you book your reservation you have an la carte menu to choose bathrobes, slippers, checkout time, etc. The mattress was a little too firm for me but I am sure if I had called the front desk, they would have found something to accommodate me. Our floor was quite and the hotel had a beautiful outside rooftop bar that was not open for the season yet. The staff wants your stay to be memorable and are proud to be employed there. I can't wait to go back.

I have to be fair that we visited on New Years Day and it seemed like the restaurant staff had a little trouble with turn around but they did apologize a lot and the hotel itself it was lovely , but I would try try it again.

Beautifully decorated rooms, pretty lobby and exterior. Staff was helpful and friendly. Large hotel with lots of winding hallways. White elevator reeks of soured carpet or mold. Room rates don't include many fees such as mandatory valet, "resort fee", etc. No AC in our room one night but it was fixed promptly. Pool was too cold for swimming one day of our stay.
