The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection

What makes this a 5-star (or even 4-star) hotel? The people are all very nice and the common areas are really cool with their spooky, old mansion vibe. The food at the bar restaurant is pretty good and the location is walkable for tourist-y shops. However, the layout (being that it IS a very old mansion) is twisting and cramped. The layout of the loft room is terrible (and dangerous) and there is no room to put anything! Seriously, you cannot even open the bathroom door all the way and the towels are stacked above the toilet with NOwhere to hang them. In the guest hallways/rooms it absolutely smells like a very old mansion. And for some reason they outfitted the rooms (already struggling with light from the one or two teeny, tiny windows) in dark carpet/walls/tile/decor, making this seaside escape feel very gloomy. All the dark draws attention to (white) stains around the bed and the mold hiding in the showers. The bed was okay comfortable, but the few other furniture pieces in the room are pointless, as they are so uncomfortable. The view from the teeny-tiny rooftop is very nice. The spa/pool area is dank and dreary. In summary, the lobby and bar are cool to stop by and grab dinner and drinks, but as far as paying top dollar to sleep in this old mansion with silverfish scurrying above your head...unless you are looking for a spooky and overpriced stay--you've been warned!

Our stay couldn’t have been better. The staff was attentive and the room was amazing. The entire hotel was perfect for our event. I can’t wait to go back!

We stayed in the Elise one bedroom suite on the second floor on a weekend in August and we had a beautiful stay. The room was bright in the day with three large windows and romantic at night with the dark paint and wallpaper, complementing the vibe of the rest of the hotel. Everything was clean, with turn down services twice a day. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The staff were genuinely friendly and always attentive. It was our first hotel stay in Newport that had an outdoor pool and that was a really nice bonus- a place to unwind after breakfast or before dinner and there were always lounge chairs available. We made use of the indoor pool and sauna as well and that was lovely. Not a single complaint! Can’t wait to come next summer!

The service was exceptional! Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Location is phenomenal! I would for sure stay again!
