Inspired by the insatiable wanderlust and rebellious spirit of Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, the historic downtown mansion once owned by the businessman and scion has been reinterpreted for the modern era as a lively and stylish social destination. From a secret bar tucked into a corner of the sumptuous Doris Duke-inspired parlor to the specially-commissioned series of mysterious and moody old world still lifes sprinkled throughout the foyer and lounge, the scene at The Vanderbilt is crackling with coastal curiosities and alluring eccentricities waiting to be discovered.

Another memorable stay at The Vanderbilt! The staff are absolutely amazing and always make our time there special! Kudos on a job very well done.

The Vanderbilt RI has an elegant and relaxing vibe. The food was delicious, which we expected for the $$ Unfortunately, the most disappointing part was the spa. The massage was very sub par. Lots of ‘stroking’ and very little consistency; one side of the body focused on rather than the other- very unequal. I was distracted the whole time by the dropping of things or the movement of objects. It was very clumsy. Such a disappointment for the cost and what was supposed to be a treat for my husband and I.

Mere words do not do the experience and staff justice. Spectacular in every way! The roof bar and view is a must see at night!

The Vanderbilt is a charming, historic property in a quiet neighborhood. It's within walking distance of many restaurants, the wharfs, and Thymes Street. The public areas are comfortable and beautifully furnished. The grounds are small but beautiful and the staff go above and beyond to welcome you and take care of every detail throughout the stay. Be sure to visit Zack in the evening at the bar, and he will mix up the best cocktail you've ever had and smile while doing so.

August 2025 was my 2nd stay at The Vanderbilt (prior trip was 2023) despite the cost having increased dramatically from 2023, we stayed here b/c the prior experience was really enjoyable ... unfortunately this trip has been dreadful key thing to know is avoid the 2bed suite on the 1st floor at all costs Positives - hotel is centrally located - bar is amazing (specialty cocktails as good as I've seen) - staff is extremely friendly & helpful negatives - hotel is over-commercialized ... non-stop flow traffic of non-guests - price is egregious... truly spectacular for what you're getting *** specific to room 103 (2 bed suite) - room lacated next to public restroom, restaurant patio & parking garage lot outside your window, paper thin door/walls, price is doesn't make sense
