Looking Forward to Returning But Hoping for Upper Canada Hall Soundproofing Improvements and Guest Room Shower Updates

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

My firm hosted a retreat at Pillar and Post Inn & Spa in May 2024. Overall, I really liked the venue and would like to return with my spouse for a weekend. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the common areas of the hotel were clean and had character. I also really enjoyed the spa. In terms of things that could be improved, my colleagues did not enjoy the roast beef sandwiches offered for lunch on the first day (I had a turkey sandwich, which was okay). We also had great difficulty hearing our keynote speaker in the Upper Canada Hall over the noise from the kitchen (banging pots and pans, kitchen staff's voices, etc.). The Upper Canada Hall needs more soundproofing. Finally, while I enjoyed the character of my guest room (especially the fireplace), the shower was in critical need of an update (and my colleagues said the same about the showers in their rooms). It was difficult to turn the shower on and off, there was water damage in the bathroom from previous guests, and the shower head and water pressure left a lot to be desired.

One Night Getaway

Our superior room with king bed was comfortable and inviting, service impeccable, dinner in the Cannery was excellent, use of the amenities was perfect, and breakfast buffet was excellent. The staff were polite and professional. The outdoor gardens are absolutely beautiful. The indoor and outdoor pools were heavenly as well as the outdoor springs. Highly recommend! 5 star rating all the way around.

Not the spa experience you’re looking for

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 23 hours ago

We (52 & 44) stayed here for two nights in January. Our room was incredible. It was a large corner room with separate sitting area and gas fireplace. The bed was very comfortable. The spa was very average. It’s located in the lower level of the hotel and feels like it was an afterthought. It doesn’t really have a place to relax with a book etc. There’s only a small waiting room for spa treatments. We had a couples massage and were planning to spend the entire day relaxing by the pools and in the spa “lounge” but this spa didn’t fit that bill. The heated outdoor pool was nice, but the indoor pool was rundown. The hot tub by the pool wasn’t running properly, and the “hot spring” was luke warm. If you are looking for a true spa experience, I would go elsewhere. The standout at this hotel is the Canery restaurant. We ate breakfast and dinner here and both were incredible! I will not stay at the Pillar & Post again or go to the spa, but I will definitely dine at the restaurant again.

Fine Inn with all the amenities, comfort, location & history in the Niagara on the Lake area

We love Pillar & Post, we go every year & sometimes twice. Some rooms are just a little dated (they are updating but do this without hampering their guest’s visits), the beds & pillows are very comfy. The pools are great & well kept. The Cannery Restaurant is a close 5 star in my opinion. Our 8 & 10 year old, well behaved, grandsons love this place although it is primarily an adult & relaxation Inn. They enjoy learning about the history of this beautiful area. I’m pretty sure they can accommodate pets in certain rooms but check first. Their gardens are amazing & with the addition of outdoor space across the street would make any wedding complete. We’ve used the spa in the past & have been quite pleased with the many services they offer. Don’t forget to visit the grotto!

Beautiful night.

Super comfortable bed for sure. Nice old school hotel. Service was top notch from the second we walked in. We really loved the pub in the hotel before we headed into town for dinner. Lot's of charm and varied local and international selection of wines. We went to the Spa and had an amazing massage the next day. Only slight criticism is we could hear people in the next room at times. not late at night or anything but the walls seemed to be thin. Fyi - it took us about 15 minutes or so to walk into to town for our Dinner. Beautiful walk through the old streets was quite nice. We would return for sure.
