5 star hotel questionable

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 hours ago

My family and I returned today from a 7 night stay in Hotel Elba. We couldn't fault the staff very nice and professional. We had booked a standard family room, when we arrived we were upgraded to a junior suite. This was great a lovely spacious room, our two boys were delighted. We had a lovely relaxing week. We are not sure though if it is a 5 star hotel. Plenty of food at breakfast but its a bit of a free for all and coffee from machines. You would expect your tea/coffee served to you, which we have gotten in high standard 4 star hotels. We didn't like sitting outside to eat as there were loads of birds landing on tables chairs etc bird poo on chairs. Doesn't seem to be cleaned off, same with the sunbeds at the kids pool. We had a nice week overall, would we go back not sure.

Nice hotel but overpriced.

Nice hotel but slightly dated. Staff extremely nice and helpful. Food was just OK and could have been better for this price and standard of hotel. Bar was good and bar service excellent. The buffet restaurant was not great but the al a carte restaurants were very good. There seemed to be a lot of files and mosquitoes about although we used sprays etc. and avoided bites, but it was a constant worry. The birds that seemed to have free access to the restaurant and the bar were a nuisance and a probable health issue. The hotel is a bit isolated but the coastal path walk into Estepona is very nice. Spa facilities are nice. There was no entertainment at the time we were there. While the staff were very attentive the hotel is in need of renovations. All in all while our stay was nice I think the hotel is very over priced.

Lovely

Overall great hotel. Fantastic and friendly welcome with a glass of fizz which was a nice touch. Really lovely and clean lobby with lovely staff. We had a sea view double junior suit with balcony. Lovely big room and bathroom, plenty of room for baby cot too. Massive bed which was lovely. Buffet breakfast and dinner was good quality but did feel repetitive as the week went on. The staff at the restaurant were all super lovely and friendly, very efficient and really lovely with my baby, really lovely and hard working girls. The outdoor pool was too cold for us with baby but nice setting. The indoor pool on the terrace was lovely though. The only thing I would say that there the bar was a way from the indoor pool which was a little inconvenient and a fair distance away to get towels. No staff or lifeguard present around indoor pool. With baby and pram would take us 40mins to walk to port and 55mins to get to Estepona town on coastal path which was great. Taxis very easy to get in area. Lovely, warm feel and clean hotel. Would recommend :)

Great for a Family Geteway

Lovely resort for a family holiday. Staff was really nice, especially Laura at the front desk who was really helpful. We had a great family suite with a huge terrace overlooking the sea. The room was great, and the hotel restaurants were delicious.

Thalasso Spa is Underwhelming

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The reception staff at check in are lovely, and our room was nice. However, this place really needs to not advertise itself as a Spa. The pools/circuit are decent enough, but we had to stop more than once to go to the spa desk (where the receptionist just continued her personal phone call) to turn the jets back on. They were oddly reluctant to book any spa treatments. They booked our treatments incorrectly, and the ones we did receive were absolutely the worst I have encountered at any spa I have ever visited. The technician smelled of cigarettes and kept continually coughing, which took away from the experience. I don't know what is going on with their Spa services, but it was so odd to me to see the empty treatment area, no staff, and their reluctance to book. They advertise the treatments all over the property, but literally there were no masseuses, technicians, etc to be seen. which is again so unusual for a "spa". The circuit was relatively nice, but its boring after about an hour. No explanation on how to use it, so we just guessed. The igloo and hammem are noteworthy. The Locker rooms were cramped and disgusting, and not stocked. There are no clean towels for showering (you are only allowed one towel for spa and showers, which is kind of gross to me), no products outside of a soap dispenser, no shampoo, lotion, anything. One hair dryer. I visited the spa at one point and there were at least 20 women cramped in the area, shouting, and queuing for the shower, toilet paper all over the floor and sink because there are no paper towels or extra towels provided. Nobody from the spa staff cared. We went for breakfast and left immediately. One buffet for all guests, and picked over food in the loudest environment ever. A 7 person long queue for a cup of coffee. We turned around, left the spa and went off property. Just absolute chaos for what is supposed to be a relaxing, tranquil stay. Room was nice, but for a couple, two twin beds pushed together. Not a king bed as advertised. No iron in the room. Robes provided had seen better days. Overall a underwhelming experience. Would possibly return, but absolutely would not book any treatments or services and would not pay for a breakfast that is seemingly worse than a cheap cruise ship. With that in mind, there are plenty of standard hotels in the area that you might enjoy more and have better service at.
