Baros Maldives in North Male Atoll, Maldives

Baros Maldives is one of the country’s original resorts – four decades ago, international communication happened via Morse Code and guests settled in for a three-hour dhoni ride to arrive on the atoll’s untouched shores. Today, the natural beauty of Kodhdhipparu-Baros Island perseveres, thanks to conservation efforts. Take part in the internationally recognized Reef Check program or go for a guided snorkel with the resident marine biologist to learn about the resort’s underwater residents, or just listen to the wind rustle through your villa’s palapa roof and appreciate the splendor of tropical solitude.

Walk across the teak floors of your villa to the magic that greets you outside – maybe you slip off the deck of your water villa into the crystalline Indian Ocean, or if you’re sleeping on land, linger under the rain shower of your outdoor bath. Relish the silence on the island’s deserted beaches. Order a gin and tonic in the shade. Dine on seared sea scallops with papaya, champagne and coriander mousseline as a three-piece jazz band keeps time with the setting sun.

We had a wonderful time and was treated like royalty at this paradise resort: Baros! Our flight was delayed but the Baros agent was very patient, waited for us at the airport and welcomed us with a big warm smile! We were transferred to the island in a luxurious yacht, where we had refreshing cold towels and ice cold water to hydrate. When we arrived at the resort, the Baros team were there to receive us with charming smiles and cold towels again! The check-in process was so smooth, we didn’t have one! Our villa host had a handheld scanner to copy our passports at the villa!! How convenient is that? We checked-in to a water villa with infinity pool, it had been decorated warmly with lots of wood and earthy colors; very romantic!! It was very private, luxurious, clean overlooking the ocean and two small Islands. From every corner of the villa, the view was amazing! We had all amenities in the villa including Baros flip flops, beach bags, umbrellas, raincoats, life jackets - Incase you need it for buoyancy when snorkeling straight from the villa. And my wife’s favorite beauty product brand: l’occitane - was the choice at Baros for all their amenities too!! As coffee lovers, we were very happy to have the Nespresso machine in the room with different flavors. Every afternoon, when we returned from the beach, we enjoyed fresh, yummy cookies in the room with a cup of coffee. They have simply thought about everything you might need, to relax, enjoy and feel comfortable at Baros. We were so impatient to chill on the beach, we chose a spot but forgot our beach towels - guess what? a few meters away, in a wooden chest, was a supply of fresh towels!! Simple but thoughtful and convenient and i did not have to go back to our villa. We had an excellent couples massage at the Serenity Spa. The spa receptionist was very detailed in her explanation of all the treatments and made excellent recommendations. The therapists at the spa were experts and they used high quality organic products like Elemis, TeraNaka, Coola…for the different treatments. We’ve been to many different spa’s around the world, and the Serenity Spa is of top quality! They have very nice yoga sessions and classes in the morning to stretch your body and welcome a new beautiful day in Maldives. All the water activities you need are here, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, water cruises ... all to make your holiday enjoyable and memorable! My wife is a bit claustrophobic with a regular mask and not used to a snorkel, I went to the dive center to borrow some fins and the staff there was extremely helpful and understanding, offering to borrow his personal full-face mask so my wife can snorkel and enjoy the beauty of this magnificent reef and rich marine life! Everyday we looked forward to and enjoyed the breakfast. We even had our favorite table! The breakfast buffet, fresh bakeries, fresh juices and exotic fruits were fantastic. Their Italian omelette is a very tasty choice for egg lovers, with a smokey touch! In terms of dining, there were plenty of choices for seafood lovers, meat lovers, vegetarians, and even gluten-free and for those who are lactose intolerant. We enjoyed a variety of cuisines over the course of our stay including the Asian buffet, Maldivian buffet, teppanyaki, mongolian bbq station etc. And finally, our romantic holiday was complete with an unforgettable private, candlelit, three course dinner on the beach. Beautifully laid out with pyramid candles right next to the edge of the water. My wife was in awe, i felt pretty good!! This was organized smoothly by our host and it was a complete surprise to my wife! Alas it was time to leave, the checkout process was equally smooth. But we didn’t feel like leaving! But as our flight drew nearer, we had to aboard our yacht to Male airport. We had a team of hotel staff assisting us to board and as the boat turned towards Male airport, we felt like we were leaving home, friends and family! Yousra & Afrose

Again returning to Baros we felt like coming home and thats the way we were treated. Its very nice to "be back". Compared to the last years there were some changes: the food in Lime Restaurant has improved markedly! Cayenne was little slow, and Lighthouse was good, but compared to the price overrated. Perfect villa and great service again. Since we are avid divers we took full advantage of the great diving center. Great tours, great dive-courses. We will return home soon...

My wife and I have been wanting to visit the Maldives for so long... and when we finally had the chance, we decided to make our way to Baros, to finally tick 1 item off the bucket list. And my oh my... we were in for a wonderful surprise! The speedboat transfer from airport was smooth. The meet and greet was pleasant, held in the cozy Sails Bar. Our villa host, Azim, has been very helpful, providing us with excellent service. Throughout our stay, the staff are so friendly and helpful, be it those from the bar, the restaurant, the Marine Centre, the porters, and so on! The whole island is so well maintained, service ongoing around the clock. Everyday there are always resort activities to take part in, and there are 3 restaurants available for your gastronomical pleasure. We stayed at Baros pool villa and water pool villa. The facilities, interior, views and supplies for both are indeed tip top and luxurious. The highlight for our stay is the house reef snorkelling! The reef is easily accessible from the beach on the East side, and it is bustling with marine lives. You get to see surgeonfish, parrotfish and many other reef fishes. We got lucky as we managed to spot Pana the resident turtle, octopus camouflaging itself and of course the blacktip sharks! On some random occasions, we saw fishes flying above water, ray fish roaming the lagoon and heron bird catching fishes. We also managed to catch beautiful sunset and sunrise, and there was also the special supermoon night! There was a great local music band playing on one of the night in the Sails Bar, which completed the whole range of wonderful experiences we had in Baros. If you wish to visit Maldives for the very first time, do give Baros a serious consideration. It is not an overstatement to say that the resort is a paradise!

The team of staff from Monica who greeted us with big smiles to Zoey who was always there at the restaurant to provide us good food to Zorro who was our dedicated guest relations officer were wonderful and did all their best to accomodate all our requests. We were very impressed on how they made us feel very important and how they exceeded our expectations. First our rooms were upgraded for free to pool villas from deluxe rooms. Second they were very meticulous in the miantenance and upkeep of our rooms. Third they arranged all activities catered to our needs and budget and lastly they managed to squeezed in last minute day tour at Male city on the way back to airport with zero hassle at almost impossible remaining time left. Thank you so much for the most memorable vacation.

Sad to say we just returned from paradise 2 weeks ago. Knowing we only had 5 full days in the Maldives, We chose Baros because it was the best resort via speedboat connection. We landed in Mali around 22:30 and there was concierge waiting for us outside of customs. Took about 15-20 minutes to clear customs (no checked in luggage & because we traveled business class, we got an express pass through customs). We were the only flight inbound so there were no lines anywhere. Speedboat transfers were included in our package and within 25 minutes we were at the island checking into our villa. We chose the private villa with infinity pool and was assigned Azzim who gave us a brief detail of the restaurants and then took us to our villa where he checked us in and allowed us to relax after our 22+ hours of travel from SFO. It's as breathtaking as you would expect. Although this resort it over 44 years old, you wouldn't know it. Everything is updated. We found no fault with the room and service. Every morning I woke up and sat on the private deck watching the schools of fish jump out of the water, black tip sharks and sting rays swimming under the villa. Visiting this time of year gives to chances of rain showers which we had 2 of the 5 days we were there. The coral reef around the villas is pretty much dead and about 3-4 feet deep. It is a short distance past their barrier wall to the rest of the ocean. And if you're adventurous, they do nighttime snorkeling excursions. Being that you're stuck on the island for everything, the food did not disappoint. We mostly enjoyed when they had the buffet nights because you can sample a lot of the local cuisine. It was also one of the few times during your stay you saw other guests. Other than those periods, you hardly saw another soul. Only slight negative I would have is that they charge for still water during lunch/dinner service. Beverages were free during the breakfast buffet. I would highly recommend this place to anyone considering it and would gladly return. TIP: The marine center has free snorkeling gear for use during the visit. Definitely pack a rash guard and a lot of sunscreen because the sun gets very extreme during the day. Pool is not heated but still lovely during the evening hours.
