Baros Maldives in North Male Atoll, Maldives

Baros Maldives is one of the country’s original resorts – four decades ago, international communication happened via Morse Code and guests settled in for a three-hour dhoni ride to arrive on the atoll’s untouched shores. Today, the natural beauty of Kodhdhipparu-Baros Island perseveres, thanks to conservation efforts. Take part in the internationally recognized Reef Check program or go for a guided snorkel with the resident marine biologist to learn about the resort’s underwater residents, or just listen to the wind rustle through your villa’s palapa roof and appreciate the splendor of tropical solitude.

Walk across the teak floors of your villa to the magic that greets you outside – maybe you slip off the deck of your water villa into the crystalline Indian Ocean, or if you’re sleeping on land, linger under the rain shower of your outdoor bath. Relish the silence on the island’s deserted beaches. Order a gin and tonic in the shade. Dine on seared sea scallops with papaya, champagne and coriander mousseline as a three-piece jazz band keeps time with the setting sun.

We were very impressed with Baros. We stayed in a water villa. They are private and offer fantastic snorkelling on the house reef just metres away. There are many great hotels in Maldives, and I think that if you are considering other options in this price range then Baros will be very hard to beat. We moved to Four Seasons which is much more expensive but we missed the personal attention of Zuhoor, our Villa Host. It's a great service differentiator, and other similar services like St Regis butlers do not offer the same level of attention. We saw him a few times a day, as we walked around the island or came back from breakfast. He always asked how things were in a very engaged way because he really cared...this point of contact ensured that we were happy throughout the trip. I also want to make special mention of the ladies at breakfast, they are so happy and positive that it really sets the day up well. We are vegetarian and got a special menu with enough options to have variety for our 6 days, and the breakfast was also better than expected with a great fruit selection. One day we got a salad that they put prawns on by mistake...and these things can happen anywhere. The key is how the team deals with an issue like this. At Baros they were great, a few different staff and managers apologised and they took special care that this woudn't happen again. Small touches like room service giving us 4 water bottles on the 2nd day when we drank all of our 2 bottles on the first day show that they pay attention to detail. Strongly recommended.

Spent the week exploring this gorgeous house reef which is just a quick swim off the back of our water villa. The Marine Center staff is incredibly helpful and we took both the house reef tour and night snorkel. The warm hospitality shown by the entire staff made this a very memorable stay. The resort doesn't get many kids since they don't allow them under the age of 8 so mine were treated like mini-superstars! Everyone knew their names and were greeted like family. When they didn't have water skis small enough for my son, the GM spoke to us directly and gave each of my sons a special surprise from the gift shop. This gesture and many more make this place stand out! For breakfast, I like that some items are set up buffet style but you order from the menu for your main course. And the free flow prosecco a very nice surprise. We would like to call out (in addition to the ladies at the Marine Center), the following staff members...Raihaan, Zoey, Maanie, Nawaz and Shariu. Thank you for welcoming our family so warmly.

Wow! This place is truly one for the books! Upon arrival, my breath was taken away by the beauty of the island. We landed at the airport and Ramsey was there waiting for us for transport! He was so delightful and welcoming! We waited for another couple and then we were whisked away on the speedboat to the resort! The moist, cool, clean scented cloths and water provided to us totally cooled us down during our boat ride! I must say I looked forward to those cloths on a daily basis, who knew something so small could make such a big smile on my face! After the quick 25 mins trip, we were greeted by a few employees and taken to the reception area where we were greeted with champagne! I mean must I go on?!?... I shall! We were introduced to Asim, who would be our resort contact for our entire stay! He did not disappoint! From beginning to end he was always easily found if we needed anything! We were taken to our water villa and the view walking up to our villa was out of a movie! The island was so very clean, the beach was pristine with all shades of blue and the sand was snow white! The lush greenery was also a sight to see during our walk to and from our villa! We went snorkeling everyday in what seemed to be the most amazing aquarium ever, but it just happened to be the Indian Ocean! We saw all types of marine life and even got a chance to see a cute sea turtle! The breakfast every morning was extremely delicious and every single staff person we came in contact with always had a smile and made sure our every need was met! The food throughout the day was impeccable along with the service! We were able to take a trip to Malé to see the true Maldivian culture which we thoroughly enjoyed, as well as take a nature walk through the island which was very educational! We were even delighted with a dinner on the beach and a sunset cruise! Everything was top notch! We loved our entire stay and everyone who was a part of it, but Raihaan, Asim, Ramsey, Niken, Asif, Hameed, and Lara really played a hand in making our stay special! This is a wonderful place to come and relax with your love without a care in the world! We will definitely return to Baros! Thanks again guys!

We came to Baros as the second destination on our honeymoon to the Maldives in September. When we booked the year before, Baros was the hotel I set my heart on and had been counting down the days until we finally got to stay and it did not disappoint!! It's a member of the SLH group, which we have stayed at a few members of, and you can totally see why. Luxurious, romantic, exclusive with impeccable service and dining, we felt like Baros (in particular Nahid our villa host) genuinely cared about us and giving us the perfect stay. The island is luscious and tropical, it really is picture perfect. We had a couple of hiccups with our room and one of our excursions, but Baros handled them very professionally and apologetically and made up for it in their actions and we were happy. We stayed in a water villa with infinity pool overlooking the beautiful ocean and I can't recommend enough. Massive comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom. We spent majority of our days on our deck because we had everything we needed there and we didn't need to go to the main pool or beach area. We did a snorkeling tour and nature walk with Lara who was brilliant and very informative about the island and it's nature. We also did the sunset dolphin trip, having done it at our first resort and been disappointed at only seeing 2 dolphins very far away. Well... this trip was amazing! We saw tens of dolphins and they were leaping and diving and spinning very close to the boat, it was such a magical moment and one we'll remember forever. The sunsets on Baros are beautiful, even when cloudy and we loved watching them each day with a glass of wine in hand. Having come from a week of buffet, we were very pleased and impressed with the a la carte options at Baros. Breakfast had an superb buffet spread with plenty of choices for different nationalities with additional hot items cooked to order that you could ask for. The Lighthouse restaurant for dinner was an absolute treat. It's pricey but was very romantic and the food was excellent. Order the lobster bisque, it was incredible and they cook it in front of you! We ate at Lime for dinner (we were on half board) and thought it was great with decent portions. We had the chef's choice meal a couple of times and it was excellent. For lunch we ate at Cayenne overlooking the shallows and the reef sharks. We found that many guests have a late breakfast, don't have lunch, and then have a early dinner before returning to their rooms. Because of this there's not many people around or much going on in the evenings. This didn't bother us but if you're looking for lively evening entertainment then this isn't the place for you. There was a live band in Sails bar one evening, who were fab btw, but that was the busiest we saw the bar during our stay. Overall we adored Baros and would love to visit again one day. It was the perfect second part to our honeymoon and we came away tanned, fatter, relaxed and very happy. Thank you Baros! Next time we would probably opt for a beach villa with a pool, only because we were reluctant to sunbathe on the beach as the loungers are quite close to the beach villas and we felt like we were intruding.

Baros is one of the places where we hate to leave and can not wait to come back again. We stayed for one week, our experience staying Baros was absolutely unforgettable. The villa, the beach, the snorkeling, the food, and the services were the first class, especially our host, Nouwa. He was very professional, friendly, smooth and caring. In the end of our vacation, we felt like saying goodbye to a dear friend. We will come back again for sure.
