PER AQUUM Huvafen Fushi in North Male Atoll, Maldives

In the local dialect of these magically far-flung strings of sand in the middle of the Indian Ocean, Huvafen Fushi Maldives means "dream island." Surely this can't be real: schools of fish darting through translucent water in the lagoon under your bed, an expanse of stars upstaged by a glowing blue sea of bioluminescent phytoplankton, fresh dragonfruit picked especially for you. This is paradise at its most avant-garde.

Watch the sunrise over the watery horizon without getting out of bed by opening the remote-controlled blinds. Slide off your porch into your private lagoon to swim with anemonefish and other coral dwellers. In the evening, after a dip in your freestanding bath over the Indian Ocean, join the island's resident marine biologist for a nighttime descent to the SpaReef, where you'll sip champagne and nibble canapés as hunting jackfish and lionfish end their day.

I used to be a super frequent guest here years ago but really stopped going when the management changed and it was being run to the ground. I am so thrilled that we have turned full circle and some of the old management is back in charged and what a difference that makes! This is really the grand dame of Maldives luxury hotels - it was a place that set the bar on modern luxury. It’s now deserving again of accolades. It has been mostly refurbished with tat. The f and b outlets have been upgraded and improved - a special mention to Feeling Koi which is a must try when there. The room was great - I stayed at the pavilion at the end of the water - spectacular as always. I also took the luxury Dhoni on a couple of the days for a sand bank visit and bbq - highly recommend that as it’s one of my favorite things to do in the world - melts my heart being on those beautiful Dhoni! The service across the board was amazing yet not intrusive- I must single out our thakuru Razeen who handled our rowdy big group with charm never skipping a beat. I am so thrilled to have Huvafen back as it’s close to make - just a boat ride away so it works well for quick trips where you don’t have to take a seaplane and lose time coming and going! I love the place !

Wonderful Huvafen Fushi! A paradise island with everything you wish for! Beautiful villas, white beaches and the clearest water. Wonderful food and a fantastic service given with pride from everybody at the resort! For us the Holiday turned to diaster when My husband had a severe heartattack/heartblock. The hotell doctor with oxygen, fast transport to Male and excellent treatment at the IGM hospital saved his life. The support from the resort was beyond everything we could expect. From help with transportering for me to the hospital every day, help with food and medicine for My husband. A kindness and generosity beyond the highest expectations! Thank you all wonderful people! We visited Huvafen after 4 nights at another island resort - a resort that is itself rated 5 stars and is technically ranked above Huvafen on TripAdvisor. The other resort was excellent but Huvafen simply blew it away. From the moment that you walk off the jetty, you sense the relaxed and quiet vibe of the island. Warmly greeted by Jay, the Manager, and Razeen, our Senior Thakuru, we were taken to our Deluxe Beach Bungalow with Pool. This is the best villa we have ever stayed at. It comes with 2 pools - a private pool at the back and a smaller pool facing onto the beach. We loved the direct access onto the house reef from outside our villa. We snorkeled at 10 different reefs/locations on our holiday, and the house reef is up there with any of them. We saw sharks (they’re friendly!), a turtle, rays and a moray eel amongst the vibrant array of fish at the house reef. The daily stingray feeding is also a great feature for nature lovers. We did a couple of snorkel trips off the island - a small group one on the Dhoni and a private one on a speedboat - which were excellent, the latter including a stroll around a sandbank. The underwater spa is also a must visit. The food throughout the island is exceptional and Arif (Roger) makes an excellent cocktail at the Raw Bar - definitely head over there for the sunset with their two-for-one cocktail offer. The service throughout the island was terrific but, in particular, a huge thank you to Razeen, our Thakuru, who was extremely helpful throughout in a delightfully chilled and understated manner. The new management team on this evidence are doing a great job for their guests. I stayed on this island 27 years ago when it was Nakatchafushi. It is very different now in terms of the first class facilities now on offer, but the island’s naturally beautiful setting remains. I definitely recommend this island if you wish to relax in pure luxury.

This island feels very intimate and unique, like a boutique resort, but at the same time, it is visually spectacular, with first class rooms and flawless service. The staff are genuinely caring and friendly and all remember your name. Our thakaru Chainy was excellent - when we were considering various activities, he was honest in which ones he recommended and which ones he didn't (based on our interests, the weather, time of year, etc.) . I felt like he really cared about us having a good time. We stayed in a beach bungalow which was really great. I felt it looked better in real life than in the website photos. The bed was huge. Outside the beach was lovely and the lagoon is a beautiful color. The resort pool is spectacular. We went snorkeling and saw many fish, reef sharks, anemone, etc. Also had a massage at the spa which was great. The breakfast was fantastic - best hotel/resort breakfast I have ever had. We booked through Addicted to Maldives, who provided excellent service and advice. Overall, highly recommended, especially if you want a more intimate feeling resort, without sacrificing on amenities or service.

Huvafen Fushi was the ninth Island we have visited in The Maldives. From arrival to departure we had a relaxing couple of weeks in excellent surroundings. Our Sunrise Ocean Pool Villa was by far the best Villa we have had in The Maldives - large, well furnished and equipped and with a large deck to ensure that we had some shade at any time of the day. Many thanks to all the staff for being so friendly and making our stay an enjoyable experience. Special thanks to Razeen, our Thakuru, for looking after us so efficiently. Would we return? Yes, so we look forward to meeting you all again in 2018.
