Reviews for Su Gologone

Good but not perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

The hotel is unique for sure and you can read all that on other reviews. Maybe because it was off season… not as many experiences available. Dinner in the restaurant was just ok. Staff was not that friendly except for the front desk who doubled as check in check out and booked Tours. There did not seem to be a dedicated concierge desk. This place is popular with the active senior crowd.

Magical Place!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

This place is a really magical rustic resort. It's built into the hillside, every nook and cranny has been designed. It feels as though you are in a tiny art village. The owner has added her artist touch to the hotel. Each room is dedicated to a different artist and no two are alike. You can feel the Sardinian culture and they offer many opportunities for experiences to dive deeper into the local culture. We were able to hike in the valley and have lunch with a local Shepard, and learn how to make pasta. They offer a number of dining options and the food was incredible! The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Fabulous place

We stayed here for two nights and we wished it could have been more. The property and the grounds are very attractive. Sardinian art is displayed all through out the hotel. Our room was not big, but comfortable and we had a small balcony. There are multiple common areas to congregate or just relax. We loved the rooftop bar with nice countryside and mountain views. The hotel must of have been built in phases, as there are a number of different buildings, so it was a bit confusing to navigate. We also ate both nights in the hotel restaurant and the food was exceptional. There were plenty of traditional Sardinian dishes on the menu. The breakfasts were also good.

Truly was an Experience

Stayed for three nights in one of the cottages near the art shop. Our room was spacious, well equipped and even had an outdoor bath in our little garden. The decor was tastefully Sardinian and had coffee and tea facilities. We ate all three nights in the hotel, the first night in the “Bread Nest” where our tasting menu was prepared and cooked by two ladies using a wood fired oven. All courses had a bread base and were delicious. We ate in the main restaurant the second night and had the amazing suckling pig. On our last night we tried the vegetarian tasting menu sat in the vegetable garden. During both tasting menu nights the food just kept coming and a carafe of wine and bottles of water were included. All of our meals were very good value for money. Breakfast was ample with plenty of choice. The pool area was very pleasant to relax in and has a bar area close by. The Magico Tablao bar was very stylish, had a great atmosphere and served amazing cocktails and also three different excellent craft beers ( bottled). All staff were friendly helpful and professional. It is worth just wandering around the hotel to see all the different areas where works of art have been tastefully placed. We could find no fault with hotel at all and would thoroughly recommend it.

Unique and wonderfully full of character

This is not your average hotel by any means. It is really a hotel for art lovers who enjoy exploring a wonderfully quirky property full of lovely nooks and crannies which you'll find beautiful art, furniture and crafts. There are little hidden corners all over the property. We stayed for four nights and I don't think we quite finished snooping around. Even through there are quite a few rooms, it never feels crowded because it's so spread out and people are all doing their own thing. It's wonderfully located both for exploring the coast and doing amazing hikes and things in the region (I highly recommend Su Gorropu gorge. We hiked down, clambered around on the big rocks and then hiked back up (which was a bit too much (5 hours) but lots of fun!). The hotel sets up very reasonably priced excursions such as the Tiscali hike or the boat trip to Cala Gonone caves and beaches. I would book early and do as much as possible. The region is very rich and there is a lot to explore. Our room was lovely - we opted for a room with a view - the Junior Suite Deluxe - which was quite nice - the rooms are all different here so it's hard to know exactly what your room will look like. It was quiet with a lovely view over the valley. It was not overly luxurious in the traditional sense of the word but absolutely beautiful and full of art and gorgeous antiques. I wanted to buy up everything in it. We did the Bread making dinner experience which was really quite amusing. We were there when a group of Ferrari-driving racecar tourism people were there so they were enjoying the bread making dinner as well which meant we couldn't actually see the bread making. (Make sure you ask for a table where you can see what is going on). Anyway, we just went with it and ended up having a wonderful time and a glutenicious meal. There is a beautiful boutique which is very tempting and a lovely terrace for cocktails before dinner. The dinner in the regular restaurant was pretty good, nothing to write home about and we drove into Nuoro one night for an excellent meal at il Rifugio. There are some resident cats on property and one had just had a litter of 5 kittens who were absolutely adorable and kept everyone entertained. (It was all we could do not to adopt one). The staff is wonderful and very responsive about questions for activities and things (especially Gabriella). It's really a great hotel for people who like to discover and stay active. That said, the pool is lovely and plenty of people were having drinks and just hanging out there as well. We would definitely go back. It's really a destination type place, not a typical resort though, so do not expect that!
